Crisis Leadership: Lessons from the Streets of Mogadishu

Monday, September 19th, 2011

COL Danny McKnight (USA, Ret) has launched a website for his book, “Crisis Leadership: Lessons from the Streets of Mogadishu.” Additionally, since his retirement he has been conducting speaking engagements with public safety groups based on his experiences. COL McKnight retired after spending 28 years in the Army, much of it with the Rangers including combat service in Panama and Mogadishu.

In “Crisis Leadersip”, COL McKnight not only discusses his perspective on the Battle of Mogadishu as well as the political climate and how it influenced leadership decisions. One of his main points is how such conduct can negatively influence operations.

It appears that the book is only available through his website. For more info check out www.leadingforfreedom.com.

Silynx Introduces Headband Boom Mic ADS Tactical

Monday, September 19th, 2011

On the heels of release of their C4OPS Hybrid Headset, Silynx Communications has announced a new accessory, the Headband Boom Mic. It connects to the Hybrid Headset via a quick disconnect connector on the collar clip. The low-profile headband is manufactured from a lightweight material and can be worn under a helmet. This is a good option for those that are regularly donning and doffing their helmet so that the mic will always be on you.

NTOA – Danner

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Danner displayed their Danner Flight Assault (DFA) line released at SHOT Show. These styles integrate their Vertical Insertion Arrestor (VIA) technology which is designed to assist with control during fast rope descents. The Canteen, seen here, is a Gore-tex lined boot features toe lacing and an upper manufactured from a combination of 1000D Cordura and Nubuck leather. Additionally, the Danner Descender outsole is made from a Vibram V-4 ultra-abrasion rubber compound.

Finally, they were also giving sneak peeks (sorry, no photos allowed) of two new high top styles that will debut next SHOT Show. These are pretty nice and will be a great lightweight, low-profile option who are looking for tactical features without the signature.

NTOA – Velocity Systems

Velocity Systems is well known for armoring humans but up to now few have known that they have put their expertise to work protecting K9s. Their new K9 armor vest was a challenge in design as well as execution. Not only did Velocity Systems have to model K9 physiology in order to conduct a tradeoff between protective coverage and weight, but they also had to ensure that the armor could be properly borne by the dog.

Consisting of 4 hard armor plates, Velocity’s solution was to provide two different sizes of plates. Weighing in at 6 lbs, the plate carrier can be worn independently by the dog or can integrate with other manufacturer’s harnesses.

A zipper across the main flap allows access to the internal compartments. These include a padded laptop sleeve, expandable main compartment and organizer compartment. Finally, Hazard 4 recently adopted a new webbing with a more pronounced weave that allows buckles to take a deeper bite and avoid slippage.
