Sneak Peek – Silynx Mini C4Grip

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Silynx Communications gave us a sneak peek of their new Mini C4Grip at SHOT Show. Designed at the request of a customer who was looking for a shorter version of the grip, Silynx produced this prototype.

The one thing you do unfortunately lose is the cool multi-tool that is stored in the full-size model. But, you maintain the all of the wireless controls for push-to-talk as well as for an ATPIAL and weapons light. Additionally, it accepts a SureFire light head.

Kifaru Cargo Panel Lets MOLLE Carry Odd Sized Loads

Monday, March 12th, 2012

There are a couple of solutions out there for use with both ALICE and MOLLE that modify the frames with a large PALS field and allow them to be configured with any combination of pouches. But recently some readers came to me looking to carry odd sized loads with their MOLLE frames. My immediate suggestion was the Kifaru Cargo Panel that came out last year. Originally intended as an accessory specifically for Kifaru packs, they immediately recognized that the long beaver-tail design could be used elsewhere.

If you have any doubts to the versatility of the Cargo Panel, this photo showing it carrying an air compressor should shake the notion. The CP attaches to the frame and cradles your load. How closely it rides against the frame is adjustable and the load can stick out the sides or top with no problems.

Made in USA! from 1000D Cordura to stand up to the wear and tear it is going to see while being used to pack mule gear. It can be had in a variety of colors, contact Kifaru for availability because I know they can accommodate special requests on a case-by-case basis.

Tree-Go IZLID Pouch

Monday, March 12th, 2012

MATBOCK LLC is a burgeoning company that you will hear lots more of in the future. After our article the other day on the BE Meyers IZLID, we thought it would be a capital idea to introduce our readers to MATBOCK for a great option for actually carrying the thing. Remember, an IZLID resembles maybe a flashlight or a light saber, so some JTACs use slap flare pouches but this is WAY better. Rather than some makeshift, it’s actually designed for use with the IZLID and allows the user to quickly place it into action. You pull up on the IZLID to pull it from the pouch and then the cap falls free. When it’s in its pouch the bungeed cap keeps tension on the IZLID, holding it in place. Simple.

The IZLID is currently available in three flavors; 200P, 1000 and Ultra. MATBOCK offers a pouches for the 1000 which is currently the workhorse. They are working with BE Meyers on a solution for the Ultra.

The IZLID pouch is available with two attachment systems. One is Velcro and designed to fit under the cummerbund flap at the front of the armor. The other version is naturally, MOLLE compatible. Available in Desert Digital, MultiCam, UCP and Coyote from 500D Cordura. Made in USA!

Winkler Stealth Axe

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Long before he ever built an axe for America’s elite, Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler developed a reputation for his traditional Native American designs. With the Stealth Axe from Winkler Knives II, Daniel has developed a close quarters alternative to the WK II Combat Axe. I really like the Stealth Axe having had a chance to briefly handle one at SHOT Show. It’s a good fit in the hand and well balanced with the heft of the head so close to the fist. It feels like you can get a good swing going with it.

The Stealth Axe features a 4 3/4″ head made from S-7 steel with an overall length of 9″. It only weighs 1.2 pounds vice the 1.5 pounds of the full-sized WK II Combat Axe. It has a full tang, integral handle and is available with maple, micarta or rubber handle scales. You definitely aren’t going to lose your grip with the rubber handle but Daniel related to me that many users of his knives and axes prefer the wood. He says it gives them a connection with home when they are deployed. They can reach down to their blade and feel the reassurance of a little piece of America. Since Winkler offers KG coating, you might want to consider it to give your Axe a worry free camo finish. Don’t forget, it also comes with a felt lines Kydex sheath.

Please welcome our latest advertising partner Winkler Knives II and visit their website. They offer a wide range of edged weapons and tools for the warrior.

Caveat Emptor – Fake NVG Data Labels

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Several versions of stickers that mimic the markings on genuine AN/PVS-14/15 Night Vision Devices have hit the market. They are designed to be placed on resin models of the devices to enhance realism for MilSim players and reenactors.

However, because of the way they are being marketed by some, we encourage everyone to pay attention to several key features of any real night vision devices they purchase or are issued. It has come to our attention that there are unscrupulous vendors marketing shop built subpar versions of the NVGs using tubes of unknown quality. They may use these types of stickers to mislead buyers. Military issued systems should be ok unless someone tried to do a switcharoo or supply at the small unit level got a ‘good deal’ on additional systems. Be diligent in pre-combat inspections.

If you need actual devices, buy factory direct ITT units that come with factory ITT stickers serialized on the unit that match the enclosed pre-paid UPS labels along with RMA tags. There are numerous vendors that are trustworthy. The best advice when dealing with night vision is: ‘Cheap’ doesn’t just mean inexpensive.
