FDE Gen 4 GLOCK 21

Friday, April 13th, 2012

Here are some photos of one of the Flat Dark Earth Gen 4 G21s from Lipsey’s. As you can see, the removable backstrap panels are Black. However, the Gen 4 G17 I also picked up has color matching FDE backstraps. The holster is from High Threat Concealment developed in conjunction with our friends at C2 Shooting Center. More on them soon but we will say one thing; 3-5 day wait times for holsters. The background is an issue Gen III ECWCS Level 4 windshirt.

Softshell Tech – Tweave

Friday, April 13th, 2012

This is the first of four articles sponsored by Arc’teryx LEAF to educate readers on softshell fabrics used in their garments. In this article we will cover Tweave, a product of Gehring Textiles.

Specifically, Arc’teryx LEAF currently uses two types of Tweave in their clothing and equipment; Tweave Durastretch (520E) and its lighter weight counterpart Durastretch LT (536N). The Sphinx Halfshell you see here actually incorporates both fabrics. Both weights of Tweave boast Durable Water Repellant coating as well as a material content of 91% nylon and 9% Spandex. Arc’teryx offers products manufactured from Tweave in Crocodile, Black, Coyote, and Multicam as well as the new Wolf color.

Arc’teryx actually worked with Tweave to develop the Durastretch fabric in the early 2000s for outdoor alpine climbing, trekking and backcountry ski apparel. But, after a few seasons it became too pricey for those markets. With the advent of LEAF, Arc’teryx revived use of the fabric for their new customer base whose main emphasis is on performance. Tweave is recognized worldwide as the most durable stretch woven available.

Tweave combines several properties to protect you from the elements. It is a plain weave four-way stretch that has superior durability and abrasion resistance. The fabric is very tightly woven and you will notice this on windy days. Additionally, its smooth face sheds snow and DWR finish repels moisture. The construction of the Durastretch fabrics, using covered yarn technology, keeps the more vulnerable spandex yarns protected from the elements by wrapping them inside the nylon, unlike many other fabric which feature exposed spandex without a sheath. Tweave chose nylon over polyester because of its superior abrasion properties and the yarns are extremely compacted and tight, yielding a very abrasion-resistant surface. All of this is topped off with special finishing techniques that still allow ample stretch for comfort and freedom of movement.

Look for Tweave Durastretch and Durastretch LT in these LEAF products –
Chimera Shirt LS
Sphinx Halfshell
Sphinx Pant
Combat Jacket
Gryphon Halfshell
Gryphon Pant
H150 Rigger’s Belt
X350a harness

Keep your eyes peeled for information on an upcoming application of Durastretch 520P which features superior tear resistance and slightly more bulk and stretch.

The 633 Sling from Combat Arms Tactical

Friday, April 13th, 2012

If you’ve been to the PX at Ft. Lewis recently, you’ve seen the Combat Arms Tactical kiosk there. Eric Pena runs Combat Arms Tactical. He was at Darley Defense Day Thursday and Soldier Systems had the opportunity to video his explanation of the sling to some visiting carnivores from 2/75 Rangers and 1ST SFG. Here’s the video:

‘Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’ – Multiplayer Coverage

Friday, April 13th, 2012

The meat and potatoes of this article come from Tactical Fanboy. We recently attended a press event put on by Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment division at their facility in Raliegh, North Carolina. I’m not a gamer but Tactical Fanboy sure is. I’ve never been prouder than sitting in a blue lit room full of the video game press and watching Tactical Fanboy hand their asses to them. I must admit I let out a ‘whoop’ when he blinded a guy with a light gun and then beat him to death with a suitcase bomb. They should name an achievement after that one. I’m glad to see all of those days and days barricaded in his room playing games has paid off. Many thanks to the crew at Red Storm as well as their team of advisors.

I was invited to attend a recent press event for ‘Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’ which included, among info on other exciting features, a first-hand look at the multiplayer. In case you’re wondering, it’s even better than the video makes it out to be.

Multiplayer Overview

Multiplayer pits two teams of 6 against each other in one of four game types: Conflict, Decoy, Saboteur, and Siege. There’s also the obligatory ‘Horde’ mode (with a twist) called Guerrilla. Ten maps will be available shipped with the game. Gametypes are largely team and objective based, so don’t expect anything akin to vanilla deathmatch. The gametypes are as follows:
