NDIA Presents Ambrose Award to Winchester

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012

Named in honor of former Under Secretary of the Army, James R. Ambrose, for his recognition of the valuable contributions made to national defense by industrial companies, NDIA presents the Ambrose Award periodically when a manufacturer delivers superior products that meet required operational capabilities and support a high level of force readiness in the conduct of warfighting activities or homeland defense.

“The Ambrose Award is not an annual award, rather it is an award presented only when an extraordinary circumstance prevails,” said Steve Faintich, NDIA Small Arms Executive Board secretary. “Winchester was specifically cited by both the NDIA Board and the U.S. Department of Defense for demonstrating its unique responsiveness and capability in meeting a need or adding capability to U.S. and/or Allied national security.”

“At Winchester Ammunition, we take great pride in the products we provide the United States Armed Forces and we’re honored to receive this award,” said Tom O’Keefe, Winchester Ammunition president. “We have a long and storied history of supporting our military and will continue to manufacture high quality ammunition that our troops can count on.”

Criteria used to determine recipients of the Ambrose Award include:
– A track record of continual demonstration of emerging technologies
– The development of products and systems
– The establishment of enhanced production capabilities
– The integration of innovative weapons systems and supporting products and services required by the U.S. Department of Defense and Allied countries

If you’ve got a great concept or technology that you think will help USSOCOM conducts its core activities more effectively, you might want to consider answering their recently released Broad Agency Announcement. Step 1 is as simple as a white paper. We’ll cover a few of the highlights but make sure you read the full BAA to get an idea of what they are looking for and how to submit. The BAA will only remain open until July 13, 2012.

At the most generic level, they are looking for improvements in:
-Energy and Power Systems

-Scalable Effects Weapons
-Mobility Platforms
-Improved Moving Target Lethality
-Comprehensive Signature Management
-Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance
-SOF Small Unit Dominance – Many of you will fit in here and it’s pretty broad

Replay XD1080 Camera

Monday, June 4th, 2012

The Replay XD1080 camera is a serious contender in the market of mountable HD cameras such as GoPro and Contour. It features a water-resistant, hard anodized, aluminum mil-spec housing with a double o-ring sealed lens bezel, rear cap, and top push buttons that allows it to operate through any number of adverse conditions. A two-button activation also allows for easy and fast operation, with built-in LED and vibration feedback that alerts the user when the camera is active.

It records using a custom designed 135º wide angle lens, giving it a flatter, clearer picture when compared to similar cameras currently on the market. The front lens bezel can be removed and replaced with a 37mm adapter for aftermarket lens and filter kits. As for audio, the internal microphone has been specially designed to capture the most realistic audio possible while cutting down on wind noise. For situations where an external audio device is preferred, the unit comes with a standard 3.5mm mini-jack adapter.

The XD1080 is supported by a wide range of mounting options, including the HardCore Billet Picatinny mount which features 2-way, 360° positioning and 10° incremental camera ring positions.

The Replay is available from ustacticalsupply.com/replayxd1080.
