MATBOCK One Year On

Monday, November 5th, 2012

In honor of their One year anniversary, MATBOCK asked us to share this statement. It’s a little unconventional for us, but it includes two cool things. One is a preview of an upcoming product that we’ve been trying out and the second is a discount for our readers.

In November of 2011, we officially launched our products to the market with the release of the Constrictor Cargo System, Tree-GO IZLID pouch and most recently, the LIFT System. To date, the LIFT System is undoubtably our greatest product with its lightweight design and versatility, all developed with the modern day warrior in mind. At only 3.5 lbs, no other system can come close to what the LIFT System is currently providing to the battlefield and we have new features in the final stages of T&E.

To help celebrate MATBOCK’s 1yr anniversary, we are offering an exclusive 10% discount for all SSD readers. Please just enter “SSD10” during checkout to receive your 10% discount. This coupon code will be good for the entire month of November. In addition to this great discount, MATBOCK will also release new products in the coming weeks here on SSD. Follow us at www.matbock.com, on Facebook, and stay tuned to SSD for further details.

Here is a sneak peak of one product that is still in the final stages of T&E. The next great evolution for Night Vision is here.

Hill People Gear Prairie Belt and Ute Pack

Monday, November 5th, 2012

It’s full speed ahead at Hill People Gear where they continue to expand their back country living system.

Two upcoming products are the Prairie Belt and Ute Pack.

20121104-204719.jpg

According to HPG, the Prairie Belt is a nod to the prairie belts of old worn by the US Cavalry.

20121104-204954.jpg

Just one look at it and you’ll see that it is a backpack waist belt. But it includes PALS and they also designed it for use as a war belt.

20121104-204858.jpg

Interestingly, the belt can be rigged as a safety harness and they are considering integrating a sit harness kit. It will be offered in will be available in small, medium, and large sizes in ranger, foliage, and coyote.

20121104-205648.jpg

The Ute Pack takes its name from “the brothers to the bear” who ranged from the front slope of the Colorado Rockies out into the desert wilderness of the Colorado Plateau in eastern Utah. Like the Ute, the pack is highly adaptable, carrying loads from 20 to over 60 pounds. Consequently, it is highly compressible.

20121104-205802.jpg

It will come equipped with a Prairie Belt and features an internal frame consisting of a frame sheet and dual aluminum stays.

Both products are coming soon.

Despite Reports to the Contrary the US Army Has NOT Chosen a New Camouflage

Monday, November 5th, 2012

About a month ago, a deployed reader informed us that he had heard that the US Army had selected a new camouflage pattern. He sent us a simple, two page PPT that he has received via email and showed the pattern as well as a few made up dates for issue. Overall, it was a sophomoric attempt but he asked us to confirm his suspicions that it was untrue. After looking at it I had my doubts but in the offhand that it might have been a local distillation of an official announcement I sent it to the PAO at PEO Soldier. Their reply? It was an interesting fake. Remember, idle hands do the devil’s work. I’d say someone was bored and decided to pull a prank. It seems to have gotten out of hand. I’m not going to post the PPT or the alleged winner because the finalist was just as surprised to see it as PEO Soldier was. Since the initial incident I’ve had to field queries from the field numerous times, so I’m using this bully pulpit to help stem the flow of misinformation.

You may see this PPT floating around email, especially if deployed. Alternatively, it may have been printed out and posted on a unit bulletin board. Regardless of where you see it, it is untrue. If your chain of command sends it to you, politely request that they check with PEO Soldier.

The easiest way to tell it’s a fake? When have you ever seen a Power Point presentation that was only 2 slides? And consider this, have you ever seen a PPT without the issuing unit’s logo all over it?

Please remember, the US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort has downselected to four families of patterns from:

-ADS Inc as Prime, partnered with Guy Cramer
-Brookwood Companies
-Crye Precision
-Kryptek

As they continue to conduct research, I wouldn’t expect any word on a selection for a month at least. Don’t worry, if we hear anything tangible, we’ll they you know. Until then, Keep Calm and Reload (the page).
