S&S Precision Introduces PullTabs

Monday, March 25th, 2013

S&S Precision knew they could make a better pull tab for bungees used on tactical gear and I’m impressed with their solution. S&S PullTabs are a rubberized replacement for the sewn pull tabs we are used to encountering. The material selection means your fingers won’t slip and the design’s wide base offers repeatability and correct orientation every time they are used. Much like the Weebles of yore, they always settle back in place up right, ready for instant use. Additionally, installation is simple meaning anyone can do it.

Available in Tan, Black and Toad Vine (a SSP color similar to MAS Grey) for individuals as well as cut and sew shops who want to integrate PullTabs into their products. These are cool and I can tell you that I will be putting them on my gear.

M3 SkyFins from MATBOCK

Monday, March 25th, 2013

Although few troops conduct military free fall (MFF) operations, MATBOCK specializes in developing niche products. Their new M3 SkyFins (patent pending) make life a little easier for jumpers.

Civilian jumpers have been using pants and suits to help them have more control, more power and track farther in the sky for years; however, military issue combat pants haven’t offered those same capabilities; until now. Named after Matt “Maddog” Mason, the M3 SkyFins were specifically designed for use with SOCOM’s issue PCU Level 9 pants with Crye knee pads. Additionally, MATBOCK is working on a slight modification for the M3 SkyFins to accept the “snaps” that can be found on the latest issue Level 9 pants by Patagonia.

Keeping with their motto, Lighter Faster Warriors, MATBOCK incorporated a VS-17 day signal panel to the inside of each SkyFin. The M3 SkyFins can easily be removed once on the ground and can be combined to make a bigger signaling panel, if needed.

Disruptive Tech – MakerBot Announces Desktop 3D Scanner

Monday, March 25th, 2013

Aptly named the Digitizer, MakerBot’s new 3D desktop scanner is the next big step toward mainstream 3D printing. Creating 3D files requires familiarity with one of several computer programs. But a 3D scanner will allow a user to make a digital 3D model. This file can then be shared or modified.

Few details are yet available for the Digitizer but assuredly, the size of any objects you can scan will be limited due to its desktop size. However, this garden gnome was scanned in 3 minutes on the Digitizers spindle-style stage. As these systems become more sophisticated, replicating items will become easier and easier.

Zonk! is an exercise rarely performed, but remains one of the most beloved US Army Physical Fitness commands. Almost mythical in nature, some Soldiers spend 20 or more years in the Army and never hear the sweet words, “Zonk Position!…Zonk!” Ranger Up! has developed a design concept to memorialize Zonk! for all. Let’s hope they make it.

McNett’s Outgo line is being rebranded at McNett Tactical. Personally, I like the change. Everyone already knows McNett and it lets them know that these are tactically focused products.
