Vertx Is One Big Tease

WARNORD: Next weekend, a week from now, we will be having a contest. 3 choices for a prize: a pair of Phantom LT pants or one of 2 earth-tone sweaters with MC on shoulders and elbows (both size XL). Canipe Correspondence – Tim Lau Weighs In On Carrying a Gun

It’s really cool when an article spawns discussion elsewhere. Tim Lau expanded on Canipe’s “Carry a Gun” post in an article for the Modern Service Weapons Blog entitled, “Why Carry A Gun?” While iIt’s worth checking out to get an additional, but similar viewpoint, MSW is a blog also worth keeping up with.

I frequently hear co-workers tell me they do not carry a gun away from work for various reasons. These reasons range from simply being lazy or the gun being “uncomfortable” to stating that they wouldn’t want to involve their family in something so they leave the gun at home. Despite Emeryville (CA) Police Chief’s claim that guns aren’t a defensive weapon, the National Crime Victimization Survey and National Survey of Private Ownership of Firearms indicate that Americans use firearms to defend themselves between 108,000 to 1.5 million times a year. Additionally, according to the NCVS, resisting violent crime with a firearm is the most effective form of self defense resulting in the least amount of injury to the victim, including resisting with pepper spray, mace, hands/feet, or even being completely compliant.

“Shoot, Move, Communicate.” That’s been the mantra for the infantryman for years. So how come we do so little of the second one?

I’ve been in several firefights downrange. In every one, we held our position and shot back at an enemy that maneuvered freely around us. On the first day on the ground in Helmand, we were actually taking fire from three directions, and were effectively pinned for several hours. During a firefight in open country in Zaidon, Iraq, we were actually told by our commander to stay put, rather than try to close with the enemy.

Marines of 2ND Recon at night near Zaidon, Iraq – infantrymen today are as much beast of burden as they are grunt.

Grey Ghost Gear to Launch Civy Pack Line Called G3

Idaho-based Grey Ghost Gear told us that they are launching a civilian pack line called G3. They will start out with three pack: Large 2218 cubic inches, Medium 1345 cubic inches and Small 375 cubic inches. These bags will be manufactured in the same factory that Karrimor uses so we are looking at great quality. In case you’re wondering, these will be made overseas, for the civilian market just like all of the other packs on the civilian side.
