Larry Vickers takes us through the 5.45x39mm AN-94.

This video includes the only known documented test of the 2 round burst dispersion of the AN-94. In two-shot burst mode, the AN-94’s Nikonov mechanism is designed to fire the second shot quickly enough to allow it to escape before the recoil of the first shot is felt.

Threadsmiths – The Cavalier Dress Shirt

Monday, May 16th, 2016

1

Threadsmiths is a company based out of Melborne, Australia which has developed a patented hydrophobic nanotechnology application that repels water and dirt. Early last year, we featured an article on their first product, the Cavalier T-Shirt. Since then, they’ve developed an addition to their product line, the Cavalier Dress Shirt, and sent SSD one for review.

6

The Cavalier Dress Shirt is a premium 100% white cotton dress shirt complete with mother of pearl buttons, and is treated with Threadsmiths patented hydrophobic nanotechnology application. Like the Cavalier T-Shirt, it comes in a fairly slim fit, so ordering a size up is recommended.

2

Also like the Cavalier t-shirt, the Cavalier Dress Shirt is great at repelling virtually any water-based substances. Seen above, we’ve covered the shirt in water, juice, and soy sauce. As a reminder, the coating does not work well against oil-based liquids.

3

The amount of fluid we covered the shirt in is extreme, and also required a couple of minutes in a hot shower to completely remove. Considering the amount of colored fluid that was on the shirt, that’s still pretty impressive, especially since a regular white dress shirt would be all but ruined by that point. Typically, an amount of water equivalent to a large bottle is all that is needed to remove a spill.

The benefit of a hydrophobic and stain-resistant white dress shirt speaks for itself, and we’re eager to see what Threadsmiths will be offering next. The Cavalier Dress Shirt is currently available in White, sizes XS-XXXL. Threadsmiths also offers the Cavalier T-Shirt in White, Grey, and Black for men and women.

Team MultiCam Military Charity Initiative

Monday, May 16th, 2016

Team MultiCam® has always been about relationships and common interests. Our brand ambassadors are respected in their fields, passionate about what they do and stand behind MultiCam®. From motorsports to competitive shooters, civilian to military, they are a diverse group. They believe in MultiCam® and represent us proudly.

This year the team has grown to include off-road racing legend Ricky Johnson, veterans and motorcycle racers Luie Zendejas and JD Potynsky, veteran/pro-fisherman Jamey Caldwell and veteran/off-road racer Jeff Benrud. They, along with current members Jeff Provenzano, Luke Johnson, Mark Llano, Kyle Defoor, and Travis Gibson, share a desire to give back to our nation’s service members, and we are excited to announce the 2016 Team MultiCam® Military Charity Initiative.

Each team member is supporting a military charity of their choosing. The 10 members will be collectively representing the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, the Navy SEAL Foundation, the Boot Campaign and Mission 22. All these organizations are doing great work to help disabled veterans and their families offset the often high price they have had to pay to serve their country. The Team MultiCam® brand ambassadors will be working hard to bring awareness to these issues and hope to raise as much money as possible so that these charities can better assist the men and women of our armed forces. Please, help them by visiting their GoFundMe pages, spreading the word and donating today. Thank you.

Oakley Introduces James Dietz Collection

Monday, May 16th, 2016

I am a huge fan of artist James Dietz and apparently, so is the team at Oakley SI. Dietz is well known for the unit and historical prints he has done over the years.

3_RH-Apr0416-1251

These limited edition sunglasses are pure Dietz. One of the things that James did to make them a cut above, was create custom sketches of relevant small arms which are printed on the temples. These sketches are similar to the drawings he does in the margins of his unit-only versions of his prints. It’s a level of customization few get to enjoy. Additionally, Oakley worked with Dietz to print a copy of the actual artwork that inspired each set of custom eye pro on the storage bag. The effect is awesome.

1_RH-Apr0416-1205-1

I asked Oakley’s Military Category Manager, Drew Wallace about how they made this team-up happen. Wallace commented, “The partnership was as simple as picking up the phone and calling James, building trust and sharing common values. He is a truly wonderful guy and a lot of fun to collaborate with. We commissioned him on three custom sketches that tied directly to the paintings, and we felt could translate onto eyewear graphically. Ultimately the collection was designed to bring awareness to Memorial Day and make a collection that felt special and had meaning across the community.”  Explaining how satisfying it was, he added, “For me, one of the more special projects I have worked on.”

The new James Dietz collection from Oakley SI consists of three different models.  Other than the special artwork, these offer the same level of eye protection as the standard models.

Fuel Cell

This Dark Grey on Grey model features a custom sketch by James of an M4 and the storage bag is printed with the Dietz painting “I shall defeat them on the field of battle” commemorating OIF. James actually went out to 2/75 at Ft Lewis to paint some of the guys for that work of art.

Crankshaft

5_RH-Apr0416-1179

The temple of this Tan and Grey eye pro features a sketch of a .50 M2 with the storage bag emblazoned with the famous paining, “Task Force Ranger” a depiction of a moment in the Battle of Mogadishu. James personally met with many members of the conflict and did a large dedication ceremony for the unveiling of the painting.

Frogskin

6_RH-Apr0416-1186

Moss and Grey in color, the Frogskin incorporates the sketch of an M1 Garand with the bpstorage bag emblazoned with the painting “Silencing the guns”, with a D-Day scene. This painting features LT Dick Winters, of Band of Brothersfame, who met with Jim in order to get the details in the paintung right.

This short video gives a great overview of the line.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
