This FUSION configuration features the Micro Hub 2.0 and LightWing – Left.  The Micro Hub 2.0 features a top hole pattern that matches Steiner DBAL lasers (A2, A3, I2 models).  DBAL variants are heavily used by military and law enforcement agencies around the globe, while the Class1 versions are very popular among armed citizens in the US.  The factory mount can be removed and replaced with the FUSION Micro Hub 2.0, creating a more compact platform for attaching other accessories, like lights.  In this case, a Surefire M600U Scout Light has been affixed to a FUSION LightWing – Left.  This configuration will cantilever the light backwards and place the bezel in line with the emitters on the DBAL-I2.  The Scout Light’s factory mount has been removed to create a direct mount with the LightWing, and thus a lower profile that is also raised above the bore.  This entire configuration is much more compact than using factory mounts and allows for a 12 o’clock placement of a dual pressure switch (like the pictured TAPS Standard) on a shorter rail like this Daniel Defense RIS II.

The Sky Guys Granted SFOC for Flight Testing of New DX-3 Vanguard

TORONTO, August 8, 2018 (Newswire.com) – The Sky Guys, Canada’s top drone operator, announced this week they have been granted a Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC), a permit for commercial Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) flights, for its landmark development project, the DX-3 “Vanguard”. The permit allows The Sky Guys to perform testing that will put the DX-3 through critical elements of integrated flight testing, including performance benchmarking and evaluating Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL), transition, forward-flight, endurance, systems safety, and various aspects of human factors.

“This SFOC is a testament to the industry-leading engineering design and flight operations expertise at The Sky Guys,” noted Jeremy Wang, CTO of The Sky Guys, “Besides its outstanding performance specs, the DX-3 Vanguard comes with safety features normally found in military and commercial aviation. The system is also proudly designed and assembled in Canada, so we have tight control over the IP and production methods that make it unique around the world.”

The SFOC approval comes after months of testing and evaluation in a controlled laboratory environment. The flight testing will be conducted at Toronto Markham Airport CNU8, consisting of Line of Sight (LOS) and simulated Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) only.

Magpul Releases Bipod

I’ve wanted one since I first saw it, and now the Bipod is available from Magpul.

Manufactured from Mil-spec hard anodized 6061 T-6 aluminum and injection-molded polymer, the design is optimized for rapid one-handed adjustments thanks to spring-tensioned legs which stow neatly forward and snap down and lock into place with one hand. Leg extensions slide and lock securely with the push of a button on any of the seven half-inch spaced locking detents. The legs extend a full four inches, from 6.3” to 10.3”. An industry-exclusive 50° of total tilt and 40° of total pan are controlled by a glove-friendly knurled tool-less bipod locking knob located between the extended legs, allowing easy adjustment between shots. Additionally, the Magpul Bipod has the exclusive ability to lock pan at 0° while maintaining full tilt functionality.

It is also very low-profile. Folded, the streamlined housing and legs fit neatly under the barrel and are just under 2.3” deep and 3.3” wide.

A soft rubber bipod locking knob cap is attached to the locking knob gives users a steady, non-marring forward rest while the bipod is folded. Additionally, its staggered soft rubber feet hold fast on a variety of shooting surfaces and are easily removed with a roll pin punch. Additionally, the legs accept most Atlas pattern bipod replaceable feet.

ARCYBER provides Soldiers with Array of Capabilities for Battlefield, Commander Says

WASHINGTON — A misconception of U.S. Army Cyber Command’s mission is that it’s only about defensive and offensive cyber, said Lt. Gen. Stephen G. Fogarty. But equally important, he said, are other “tribal members” of ARCYBER — signals intelligence, electronic warfare and information operations.

Fogarty, commander of ARCYBER, spoke Thursday during an Association of the U.S. Army-sponsored forum on cyber warfare.

ARCYBER needs to provide the combatant commander with an entire array of options from each of those communities that will provide him or her freedom of movement on the battlefield and deny the same to adversaries, Fogarty said. “We want to present multiple dilemmas to the enemy, not just cyber.”

Fogarty added that next week he’ll convene a meeting with leaders in ARCYBER to discuss the roles each of them play and how they can more effectively be utilized in the future, such as by better synchronizing their efforts.

U.S. Army Cyber Command is a relatively new organization, stood up just eight years ago, he said. Over the course of that time, particularly within the last two years, ARCYBER has been able to assess what it has gotten wrong and right so far.

ARCYBER operators “are in the fight every day,” he explained, and in the last two years that fight has heated up as peer adversaries acquire new technologies and capabilities and test those of the U.S. and its allies.

That high-intensity fight has enabled ARCYBER to accelerate its learning and evolve much more quickly than ever before, he said. The backbone of that effort has been the excellent ARCYBER workforce.

Lt. Gen. Bruce T. Crawford, Army chief information officer/G-6, said he wants to ensure that the ARCYBER workforce of 13,600 individuals has the right skills and training to meet the higher demands that will be placed on them as they defend the U.S. network and work to disrupt the network of the enemy.

NETWORK MODERNIZATION

Today’s effort to modernize the network is the largest in 35 years, Crawford said. In the early 1980s, he said, the Army was just getting a grasp of how software and the Internet would fundamentally change the character of warfare. The Army’s network modernization effort now is being led by two cross functional teams: the Assured Position, Navigation and Timing team and the Network team.

Advances in information technology, particularly within the last two years, mean that the Army must get a grasp on how this new technology can shape the modern battlefield and how to best take advantage of that by working closely with partners in industry and academia, he said.

Crawford said that if he had to pick the top three IT developments that will shape the nature of war, they are cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and identity, credential and access management.

Peer adversaries, he said, are working hard on developing these three as well, and some have even suggested that whoever reaches a breakthrough in AI first will obtain world dominance.
