The reimagined two-person hammock is noted as the best all-around hammock

Asheville, N.C. — Today, Eagles Nest Outfitters, Inc. (ENO), the leader in packable hammocks and outdoor relaxation gear, is pleased to announce that its reimagined DoubleNest Hammock has received an REI Co-op Editors’ Choice Award. This accolade comes a few months after ENO relaunched its iconic DoubleNest Hammock in January of 2022 with bluesign® approved fabric, thoughtfully updated features, and a refreshed color palette.

The REI Co-op Editors’ Choice Awards were developed in 2020 by REI’s in-house editorial team as a way to honor the top-performing products based on rigorous field tests conducted by REI staff and member-testers, sustainability attributes, and co-op member and customer feedback. The highest-scoring products are featured in Gear Guides found on Expert Advice and Uncommon Path, and the best of the best receive an REI Co-op Editors’ Choice Award. The full collection of REI Co-op Editors’ Choice Award winners can be found at REI.com/editors-choice.

“In our field test, our testers believed there was no better hammock for a wide range of activities,” noted REI Co-op editors. “Its roominess and comfiness are spectacular, and we’re happy to recommend the hammock to anyone in the market.”

The reimagined ENO DoubleNest Hammock series underwent a meticulous development process that included retooling our supply chain, thoughtfully updating product construction, and fine-tuning our point-of-purchase strategy. “We’re elated to hear that our focus on design, responsibly made materials, and customer experience has been rewarded with this honor, and that the DoubleNest maintains its status as the industry-leading adventure-ready hammock,” said ENO’s Chief Product Officer, Ryan Klinger.

The reimagined DoubleNest Hammock builds upon the success of its predecessor, maintaining its portability, packability, ease of use, and original features while also incorporating:

• FreeWave® nylon solid color fabric that is supremely comfortable, breathable, fast-drying, and certified as 100% bluesign® approved

• An exclusive crinkle treatment providing exceptional softness and packability

• An extended 9.5-foot (2.9-meter) hammock body allowing extra room to stretch out, lay flat, and relax

• A bonus internal stash pocket, housed in the stuff sack, to organize essentials

• Specially designed (patent-pending) hammock-specific carabiners that easily attach to all ENO hammock straps or other secure anchor points, and help maintain correct orientation for a safer, easier hang

DroneShield’s flexible system of sensors allowed them to meet their goals, select detection areas and notifications, and quickly assess and respond to potential threats. DroneShield’s public safety deployments include multiple Boston Marathon events, the Olympics at South Korea, Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Davos in Switzerland, and the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona Hawai`i.

Maxim Quiet: Maxim Defense Moving to Dominate Suppressor Game

Friday, May 6th, 2022

Maxim Defense is now manufacturing suppressors. Beginning with one for a belt-fed, then the DSX-D (Duty Suppressor System – Direct Thread) suppressor, plus the DRF-22 (Direct Thread Rimfire) suppressor, with more to come.

And none other than Phil Dater is helping them do it.

Maxim Suppressor Development

After S&W acquired Gemtech Suppressors and moved the company cross country, Maxim Defense was privileged to hire many of the talented people who remained behind. One of those people was Phil Dater. You might remember his name from the founding of Gemtech and the excellent work done by Antares Technologies in the modern small arms and suppressor industry.

Michael Windfield, founder and owner of Maxim Defense, launched the development of Maxim’s suppressors with the directive, “We do the hard stuff first.” Hard stuff in this context refers to successfully suppressing an FN MAG belt-fed machine gun, which they did.

Having checked that box, they began developing a full line of suppressors. Those devices are now dropping sound levels well below the OSHA hearing safe threshold of 140dB. For example, the average measurements taken per MILSTD-1474D while testing the DSX-D suppressor were 134dB on a 10.3″ AR-15 chambered in 5.56 and 114dB with the DRF-22 rimfire suppressor. These sound levels were measured at the shooter’s ear.

Maxim Defense DSX-D Suppressor

The DSX-D (Duty Suppressor System – Direct Thread) suppressor is specifically designed to minimize a suppressed weapon system’s violent cyclic rate and gas blowback.

The suppressor consists of a three-piece MonoKore design that adds 7.25″ to the muzzle of your rifle. The DSX-D is rated for full auto in all available calibers; 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and 6.5 Creedmoor.

There is, however, an 8.5″ barrel restriction. Additionally, the suppressor can be pinned to a 10.3″ barrel to give you a 16″ overall barrel length essentially.

DSX-D Suppressor Features

• State of the art MonoKore Design
• Simple three-piece design
• Constructed of military-grade materials (Grade-5 Titanium and 17-4 Stainless Steel)
• Drops the sound level below the OSHA hearing safe threshold of 140dB
• Purposely built for each available caliber (5.56, 7.62, 6.5 Creedmoor)
• The suppressor core has integrated carbon cutters for easy tube cleaning
• Full auto rated in all available calibers
• Ships with direct thread mount (1/2×28 for 5.56 or 5/8×24 for 7.62 and 6.5 Creedmoor)
• Disassembles with standard tools for end-user serviceability

DSX-D Suppressor Technical Specs

• Diameter: 1.75″ outer diameter
• Material Composition: Grade-5 Titanium and 17-4 Stainless Steel
• Weight: 21 ounces
• Overall Length: 7.9″
• Finish: Cerakote and DLC (Diamond-Like Coating)

DSX-D Suppressor Testing Protocol

The Duty Suppressor System is built for the world’s most rigorous demands; this suppressor is designed to be the most robust and strongest suppressor in its category.

It has been repeatedly tested with SOCOM tables across various calibers and barrel lengths, down to 8.5″ 5.56 NATO with M855 ball ammunition. It has survived with no damage or significant change in sound reduction.

SOCOM Firing Table test is conducted using eight fully loaded 30-round magazines, fired sequentially at different rates, from 1 round per second to a full auto mag dump.

Magazine #1 – 1 round per second
Magazine #2 – 2 rounds per second
Magazine #3 – 1 round per second
Magazine #4 – 3 to 5 round burst
Magazine #5 – 1 round per second
Magazine #6 – 2 rounds per second
Magazine #7 – 1 round per second
Magazine #8 – full auto mag dump

Maxim Defense DFR-22 Rimfire Suppressor

The DRF-22 (Direct Thread Rimfire) Suppressor is specifically designed to minimize the increase in cyclic rate and gas blowback of a suppressed rimfire firearm. Design features include the significant reduction of sound signature, decreasing flash signature, reduction of recoil, and an increase in overall accuracy.

DRF-22 Rimfire Suppressor Features

• State of the art MonoKore Design
• Simple three-piece design
• Constructed of military-grade materials
• No detectable first round pop
• Designed explicitly for .22LR pistols and rifles chambered in .22LR, .22MAG, and.17HMR
• Disassembles with standard tools for end-user serviceability

DRF-22 Rimfire Suppressor Technical Specs

Saab Firings Showcase New Programmable Carl-Gustaf Munition

Friday, May 6th, 2022

Saab’s programmable Carl-Gustaf® munition, designated HE 448, was fired for the first time in front of an audience at a live fire event in Karlskoga, Sweden.

The firings took place 3-4 May 2022 in front of an audience with representatives from 30 different nations and included shoulder-fired engagements demonstrating the capabilities of the new programmable High Explosive (HE) round. A new Fire Control Device (FCD), designated FCD 558, was also demonstarted at the event. The new HE 448 programmable round has the ability to communicate with the new Fire Control Device 558 via a new protocol known as Firebolt®. The HE 448 round provides the FCD 558 with the exact information on round type and propellant temperature and combines this with target distance entered by the operator to determine the best trajectory. This means that Carl-Gustaf operators will be able to quickly configure a chambered round and so increase their operational effectiveness.

“These firings indicates the increased battlefield capabilities of the HE 448 and that, together with the Fire Control Device 558, it is ready to be delivered to our customers. The HE 448 offers increased range and effectiveness against the target and has been developed drawing on our close customer relationships and our understanding of their requirements. The FCD 558 also gives users a new option for equipping Carl-Gustaf with a more efficient sighting solution than the baseline configuration,” says Michael Höglund, head of Saab’s business unit Ground Combat.

In December 2021, Saab was contracted to deliver the new HE 448 munition and Fire Control Device 558 to the Swedish Armed Forces.

Friday, May 6th, 2022

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. – (May 6, 2021) Kitfox Design Group is excited to announce their latest throw blanket project, the Global War on Terror Throw themed blanket and collection.

The Global War on Terror Throw Blanket is woven in a small family-owned textile mill located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The throw features four iconic rifles from the GWOT Era, along with helicopters, supply drops, and Rip-Its. The firearms featured on the blanket are the AKS-74U (“Krinkov”), M4A1, M16A4, Iraqi Tabuk, the Beretta M9 and the Tokarev. The throw blankets are made on European Jacquard looms with roughly eight miles of American-made, 100% cotton yarn.

“After the success of the Vietnam Throw, I knew I needed to create something to honor the people who had served more recently.” said Sara Westman, the owner of Kitfox Design Group and illustrator behind the blanket. “Near the end of 2021 I opened up a survey for my friends, followers, and customers to contribute memories. It meant a lot to get input from so many wonderful people and help drive my inspiration even further. I don’t believe I could have completed this blanket without everybody’s help. This project was a lot heavier and closer to home than the last. I grew up watching my friends’ parents and later my own friends serve in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Pre-orders open May 6th at 9 am Central and will close at 11:59 pm Central on May 16th. The orders will begin shipping roughly 6-8 weeks after pre-orders close.

The blanket is launching in two sizes, a throw which measures roughly 54”x72” and a queen measuring roughly 62”x84”. The blankets will retail at $125 and $150 + shipping respectively and will ship worldwide. All orders placed on May 6th will receive an early bird gift. In addition to the blanket, Kitfox will also be launching a small collection of Global War on Terror-themed hard goods and pet items. Products include a thrashable Shred-It Energy dog toy filled with crinkle paper, a Catnip Poppy toy, and MRE poo bags.”

“I worked really hard to find some products that are outside of the industry standard to complete the collection. We had so many people sending photos of their cats and dogs enjoying our previously released Vietnam Throw that it only made sense to include pets with this release.

The blankets and other items in The Global War on Terror Collection are available for purchase on the Kitfox website.

Kitfox Design Group is a marketing and illustration company located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Kitfox Design Group specializes in marketing goods for the firearm, automotive, and aerospace industries.
