Dual Button AXON™ and Single Button AXON™ SL bring ergonomically correct activation angles in smaller footprints

BROUSSARD, LA. (Jan. 10, 2023) – UNITY™ Tactical, a leading innovation and design company for the tactical community, announced today the launch of its newest line of modular electronic switches: AXON™. The AXON line launches with a dual button option – AXON – and a single button option – AXON SL.

AXON allows lights and lasers to fire from individual buttons with versions available for popular issued devices. With one 45-degree angled button and one flat button, its unique design provides tactile differentiation between the two buttons to eliminate confusion in dark, cold and high-stress situations. At only 2.70 inches in length, AXON has the smallest footprint of any dual button switch on the market, taking up less space on the M1913 or M-LOK® rail.

AXON’s light (angled) button features a switch that allows for both momentary and constant activation, while the laser button features a momentary-only button that supports the laser’s double-click-for-constant-on feature. Standard AXON models feature each button firing devices independently. SYNC models fire the laser independently, while the light button will fire both light and laser simultaneously. NGAL variants operate in a SYNC capacity but offer a visible override feature for light and laser.

“AXON is the direct result of customer feedback,” said Mike Roth, VP of business development for UNITY Tactical. “It brings a technically advanced and ergonomically correct solution within a two-button, hard-mounted switch – all in a smaller footprint, giving the end user utmost efficiency in space and capability.”

AXON SL is the even smaller, single button switch in the AXON family. Like AXON’s light button, its 45-degree angled button face provides an ergonomically correct activation angle, making it easy to index under stress, while wearing PPE or facing extreme environmental conditions.

The mechanical switch design allows weapon light models to fire in both momentary and constant-on modes in a familiar click tailcap design. Laser versions utilize a momentary only switch to facilitate use with the native double tap for constant feature found in most common lasers on the market. Dual lead variants are SYNC, firing both light and laser simultaneously.

“We constantly seek to innovate and improve the functionality and durability of our products,” said Trent Zimmer, founder and president of UNITY Tactical. “With each iteration, we aim to make our solutions smaller and more capable. The AXON line of switches is the future of modular electronic switch technology and we’re proud of the additional abilities it provides end users.”

AXON is available in standard (SureFire®/Crane Laser) and SYNC (SureFire/Crane Laser, SureFire/DBAL and SureFire/NGAL) variants in black and FDE for attachment to M1913 and M-LOK rails. It retails between $154.00 and $299.00 depending on the model and is available for purchase now through authorized UNITY dealers and on UNITYtactical.com.

AXON SL is available in single lead (SureFire, Crane Laser and NGAL) and dual lead (SureFire/Crane Laser and SureFire/NGAL) variants in black and FDE for attachment to M1913 rails. It retails between $114.00 and $275.00 depending on the model. AXON SL is available for purchase now through authorized UNITY dealers, with orders shipping starting Feb. 20. It will be available for sale on UNITYtactical.com starting March 1.

AXON and AXON SL will be both be on display at the UNITY Tactical booth #61503 at SHOT Show at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas from Jan. 17-20, 2023.

FN Unveils the FN 510 Tactical and FN 545 Tactical

Tuesday, January 10th, 2023

Two, New Big Bore Pistols in the FN Striker-Fired Line-Up with Industry-Leading Capacity, Control and Accuracy
(McLean, VA – January 10, 2023) FN America, LLC is pleased to announce the release of two new striker-fired pistols – the FN 510™ Tactical, chambered in 10mm Auto, and the FN 545™ Tactical, chambered in .45 ACP. These two big bore pistols feature industry-first capacity, with a standard 15-round capacity and 22+1 rounds of 10mm or 18+1 rounds of .45 ACP from the extended magazines. Styled after the FN 509® Tactical, the two pistols also feature a threaded barrel for muzzle devices, optics cut for red dot optics and suppressor-height night sights. Whether hiking in the backcountry or defending the home front, the FN 510 Tactical and 545 Tactical handily deliver the capacity to confront any possible situation with accuracy and precision, in a highly controllable package.

“There has been significant interest from FN owners in pistols chambered in big bore calibers over the last several years,” said Chris Cole, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for FN America, LLC. “We are excited to announce the release of the FN 510 Tactical and 545 Tactical pistols, chambered in 10mm and.45 ACP, that advance our flagship striker-fired line of pistols and complement our FNX-45 Tactical and FN 509 Tactical.”

Chambered in two of the most popular personal defense calibers, 10mm and .45 ACP, the FN 510 Tactical and 545 Tactical pistols offer industry-first capacities in an overall package not much bigger than the FN 509. At just 1.45 inches wide and just 6 inches tall with the standard magazine, these powerful defensive pistols pack serious performance into a full-sized package that can still be concealed and comfortable to shoot.

“We pioneered the Tactical feature set in the FNX-45 and FN 509 Tactical pistols, introducing the industry’s first pistol that shipped from the factory with a threaded barrel, optics mount and extended capacity, and until now, the FNX-45 Tactical had the highest capacity of any .45 ACP pistol available from the factory,” said Chris Johnson, Senior Product Manager, Pistols, for FN America, LLC. “This expansion into new, big bore calibers has been a longtime in the making and we are excited to offer these pistols with this unprecedented capacity – 18+1 in the FN 545 Tactical and 22+1 in the FN 510 Tactical – along with the features our customers seek in an FN Tactical pistol.”

The signature styling and ergonomics of the FN 509 family of pistols like the enhanced grip texturing, interchangeable backstraps and slide serrations enable superior control to manage the recoil of these powerful cartridges. Weighing in at just over 30 ounces, these heavy-duty defensive pistols efficiently tame the recoil of both 10mm Auto and .45 ACP. The double-action only pistols produce a crisp pull weighing in at approximately 6 pounds. Effective recoil management and crisp, repeatable trigger allow users to stack rounds on target.

Equipped with FN’s patented Low-Profile Optics Mounting System™ that is compatible with every major optics footprint, consumers have the ability to direct-mount nearly any optic in minutes with the included hardware. The tritium inserts of the suppressor-height night sights co-witness with mounted optics, offering a viable back-up sighting option in the event of optic failure.

The 4.7-inch barrels are cold hammer-forged and threaded with 0.578″x28 thread pitch, making them compatible with a vast majority of available muzzle devices. The barrel also features a recessed target crown to protect the rifling and maintain accuracy. The serrated sight wings that sit atop the slide protect the rear iron sights from shifting should the pistol be dropped or jarred, and act as a slide racking surface.

These powerhouse pistols are available in both black and flat dark earth (FDE) and ship with one 15-round magazine and one extended magazine – 22+1 for the FN 510 Tactical and 18+1 for the FN 545 Tactical. They ship with a premium soft-sided ballistic case that provides ample storage space for the pistol, spare magazines and other accessories.

Tuesday, January 10th, 2023

Denver, CO.

The Protecto Wrap Company is pleased to announce the formation of the Protecto Wrap Defense Group. Protecto Wrap Defense Group was formed to develop and supply new and innovative products to the Defense and Law Enforcement communities both in the US and abroad. Since 1952, Protecto Wrap has been an industry leader in manufacturing building products to the US and worldwide. Protecto Wrap is based in Denver, CO.

At the request of the Defense Industry and Law Enforcement, Protecto Wrap Defense Group developed and is supplying, a 100% made in the USA, CAT (Charge Adhesive Tape). CAT is a double-sided sticky tape, that forms an instant durable bond between the charge and various surfaces commonly found across the Breaching Community. CAT was derived from an industry need to supply a reliable product that is cost effective and adheres to multiple surfaces, i.e., firehose, steel, aluminum, wood/OSB, fiberglass, glass, and masonry brick/block surfaces and most importantly available and in stock. CAT can withstand temperature extremes from minus 45 degrees Fahrenheit (-42 degrees Celsius) and up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149 degrees Celsius). CAT even held a full-size concrete cinder block to a door during a 5-hour test.

CAT is available in 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12-inch-wide rolls, 50 feet long with each roll being shrink wrapped at the factory prior to shipping. Production CAT will ship with black release liner on both sides and be available to order January 1, 2023.

US Army Units Hone Skills Together at Defense Nuclear Weapons School

Tuesday, January 10th, 2023

KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. — Units from the U.S. military’s premier all hazards command trained together during a radiological course at the Defense Nuclear Weapons School on Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.

Soldiers from the 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Command’s 1st Area Medical Laboratory and Nuclear Disablement Teams both participated in the Applied Radiological Response Techniques Level 2 course.

The five-day course is designed to apply radiological hazard theories and develop applied radiological problem-solving methods.

“Approximately 20 percent of the course is conducted in detector laboratories while the remaining course time is dedicated to hands-on radiological experiences and the interpretation of survey data,” said Capt. David D. Manzanares, a Nuclear Medical Science Officer from Nuclear Disablement Team 1. Originally from Miami, Manzanares has been in the U.S. Army for 18 years and served overseas in Baumholder, Germany.

NDTs contribute to the nation’s strategic deterrence by staying ready to exploit and disable nuclear and radiological weapons of mass destruction infrastructure and components to deny near-term capability to adversaries and facilitate WMD elimination operations. The U.S. Army has three NDTs — the NDT 1 “Manhattan,” NDT 2 “Iron Maiden” and NDT 3 “Vandals.”

The 1st AML identifies and evaluates health hazards through unique medical laboratory analyses and rapid health hazard assessments of nuclear, biological, chemical, endemic disease, occupational and environmental health threats. The one-of-a-kind medical laboratory is based on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Together with the 1st AML and three NDTs, the 20th CBRNE Command is home to 75 percent of the active-duty Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) specialists, as well as five Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordination Teams.

Headquartered on Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, the 20th CBRNE Command has units on 19 bases in 16 states that take on the world’s most dangerous hazards in support of joint, interagency and allied operations around the world.

Tracing its roots to the Manhattan Project, the Defense Nuclear Weapons School provides training on radiological and nuclear weapons, incident command and response and CBRNE modeling for the U.S. Department of Defense and other Federal, state and local agencies.

The school is accredited by the American Council on Education, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the State of New Mexico.

Col. Matthew J. Grieser, the commander of the 1st Area Medical Laboratory, and his senior enlisted leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Jackie S. Mims, visited the Soldiers during the course.

Grieser is a native of Mulino, Oregon, who has deployed to Afghanistan four times and Iraq five times. He has also served in Haiti, Panama and New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.

“The skills gained from this course will make us even more effective,” said Grieser. “It takes teamwork to tackle the kinds of challenges that we confront and we have many great partners, including the professionals at the Defense Nuclear Weapons School.”
