Rheinmetall at EnforceTac 2023: A Powerful Partner of Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies

Thursday, February 23rd, 2023

From 28 February to 1 March 2023, the security tradeshow EnforceTac opens its doors in Nürnberg. As a powerful partner of the armed forces and police, Rheinmetall AG will be on hand, presenting users, procurement officials and other specialists with part of the tactical product portfolio of its Vehicle Systems, Weapon and Ammunition and Electronic Solutions divisions.

Among the Rheinmetall highlights at this year’s 10th anniversary edition of EnforceTac:

Caracal: In cooperation with Mercedes-Benz and ACS Armoured Car Systems, Rheinmetall offers a family of versatile, powerful, fast and compact 4×4 vehicles for lightweight formations such as airmobile and special forces units.

Survivor R: The superbly protected, multifaceted Survivor R is a high-mobility vehicle specially designed for security forces. Based on a 4×4 MAN chassis, it was developed in cooperation with special vehicle maker Achleitner. Germany’s Federal Police and the public order units of several German states have already opted for the latest generation of this special purpose vehicle.

Squad Support Weapon SSW 40: This is the world’s first automatic, magazine-fed, shoulder-fired 40mm grenade launcher. In terms of weight, size and handling, the SSW40 is similar to an assault rifle.

Special pyrotechnic products: Rheinmetall offers an extensive range of special pyrotechnic products, including the 9-Bang flash-bang grenade and the cuboid Spectac stun grenade, both with bottom top venting technology for maximum handling safety.

Paramir: Light and compact, this hand-fired signal system is available as an illumination rocket in various colours; as an infrared illumination rocket; as a smoke signal rocket and as a NBC alarming signal rocket. The rockets reach an altitude of around 100 metres, with an illumination period of approximately 15 seconds.

Laser light modules and fire control systems: In recent years, the Group’s family of high-performance LLM-VarioRay laser light modules has established itself in the armed forces of many nations, including those of Germany, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Moreover, various special operations forces have introduced the laser light package consisting of the VTAL laser light module and the separate TL-MissionLight weapon torch. Among other things, the FCS-TacRay Ballistic sniper fire control system features a laser rangefinder with a 2,500-metre range and a ballistic computer for 32 different types of ammunition.

We look forward to seeing you at EnforceTac 2023! Our vehicles are on display at Stand 8-523, with other command & control and operational equipment on view at Stand 10-527.

Camo Scrim Kit and Helmet Scrim from Finn-Savotta Oy

Thursday, February 23rd, 2023

Finland’s Savotta may not be the first company to produce a camo scrim kit, but man, those photos.

Savotta’s Camo scrim kit allows you to quickly fine tune the camouflage of your equipment to match your surroundings. Each kit includes five each 145 cm long strips of the same color.

Made from 500D Cordura, they are available in green, brown, white, M05 woodland, MultiCam and MultiCam Tropic.

All colors offer great NIR performance. They recommend you combine them to create multi-colored 3D camouflage patterns.

Savotta tells us these are made in Finland utilizing incredible space-age laser technology.

While you can most certainly camo up your helmet with the Scrim Kit, they’ve also made a dedicated Helmet Scrim which is specifically cut for high cut helmets, but can be used on most full/low cut helmets too.

The laser cut zig-zag pattern is positioned so that it creates an opening for NVG mounts at the front. Small slits are cut around the edges for the elastic cord.l which cinches it down.

The Helmet Scrim is available in the same colors as the DIY Scrim Kit and is made from the same material, cut utilizing the same incredible space-age laser technology.

Vice Chief’s Challenge Calls Airmen to Operationalize Agile Combat Employment

Thursday, February 23rd, 2023

WASHINGTON (AFNS) —

The Department of the Air Force 2023 Vice Chief’s Challenge begins Feb. 21. Its goal is to find innovative responses to challenges affecting Agile Combat Employment.

ACE is designed to increase survivability while generating combat power in geographically dispersed locations. Announced last year, ACE intends to be both proactive and reactive in addressing threats.

Airmen can submit their ideas here. Submissions are due between Feb. 21–May 22.

“We have heard the call to Accelerate Change or Lose from Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr.; he has set the vision for the force we need to become. Through the Operational Imperatives, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall has refined our focus on delivering threat-informed capabilities that the force needs to prevail,” said Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. David W. Allvin. “The changing character of war will privilege lethality, speed, agility, and resilience – acceleration matters.”

This year’s challenge focuses on two key areas:

Rapidly transitioning to a wartime footing and delivering combat power to the point of need at the speed of relevance

Operating in a highly contested environment consistent with the concept of ACE

Operationalizing ACE aids four areas: codifying repeatable and understandable processes; forces that are suitably organized, trained, and equipped; theaters that are postured with the appropriate equipment, assets, and host nation agreements; and joint service and partner nation integration and interoperability.

Idea selection will be based on which have the broadest appeal and highest probability of delivering impacts toward designing, improving, and employing ACE.

“The imagination and creativity resident in our Airmen is vital,” Allvin said. “Airmen are our critical advantage. Airmen have the ideas and ingenuity required to help us accelerate and fly, fight and win…airpower, anytime, anywhere.”

Airmen whose ideas move forward in the Vice Chief’s Challenge will be paired with innovators from across the force, to include key players on the Air Force headquarters staff who advocate to adopt similar concepts. Morpheus innovation team will take 6 to 12 promising ideas and directly shepherd Airmen and ideas through the innovation adoption process.

A Platform One account is required to participate in the Vice Chief’s Challenge. Instructions can be found here.
