LeMay Center, AMC Announce Major Update to Air Mobility Operations Doctrine

Monday, July 8th, 2024

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (AFNS) —

The Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education and Air Mobility Command collaborated on significant revisions to the recently released Air Force Doctrine Publication 3-36, Air Mobility Operations, reflecting the service’s renewed commitment to maneuverability and lethality.

The publication’s first major revision in five years also reflects the evolving strategic environment and re-emphasizes the importance of the joint functions of maneuver, sustainment and command and control. “These principles are critical to preparing the mobility air forces to effectively position the joint force for advantage and deliver lethal effects at the tempo required for victory,” said Gen. Mike Minihan, AMC commander.

Highlighting the publication’s release, Minihan stressed, “Amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics, the victors study maneuver.” Remarking on the efforts to update the doctrine he added, “This version of AFDP 3-36 pushes the envelope in recognizing what the mobility air forces bring to the fight and how we elevate the lethality of the joint team. It includes new sections on command and control, maneuver, the key role air mobility plays in deterrence operations, and critical lessons learned from Operation Allies Refuge, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and recent operations in Israel. Our future challenge demands close reading of this document and thinking about how to fight.”

AFDP 3-36 underscores that air mobility operations are a fundamental extension of airpower — the capability to project military power through control and exploitation in, from and through the air. This updated doctrine aligns with the realities of Great Power Competition and is the first in a series of major service doctrine updates designed to prepare the Air Force for future conflicts.

The LeMay Center is responsible for the development, dissemination and implementation of Air Force doctrine. It is conducting a full doctrine review in support of the Air Force re-optimization for Great Power Competition.

MCA Releases its First Video Series and Feature Length Film on Battle of First Manassas

Sunday, July 7th, 2024

Quantico, VA, Jun 28, 2024: The Marine Corps Association released its first video series and feature length film on the Battle of First Manassas. The project, part of the Association’s professional military education initiative, completed the production to augment one of a number of battle studies offered by the non-profit organization for use by Marines attending any training and education programs, units seeking additional sources for battlefield staff ride programs, and Civil War enthusiasts.

The project took ten months to complete led primarily by Marine Corps Gazette Assistant Editor William Treuting. Staff from the Marine Corps Gazette magazine contributed to every aspect of the film, including the narration and video editing. Treuting intended to provide a tactical analysis of the battle while utilizing Manassas National Battlefield Park as the primary setting to tell the story.

“This film is primarily intended for military leaders preparing to conduct a staff ride of the Manassas battlefield; however, it is also meant to be viewed by anyone with enthusiasm for Marine Corps history, American Civil War history, or military history in general,” said Treuting. “I hope this film will encourage the viewers to further explore the Battle of First Manassas, whether that be visiting the battlefield, reading historical accounts, or wargaming the battle.”

The video will be released in a three-part series on the Marine Corps Association YouTube channel starting June 30th. The full-length feature will be released on the anniversary of the battle on July 21st.

The First and Only Black & Veteran Owned Scotch Fior Partners with Operation Gratitude

Saturday, July 6th, 2024

Retired Marine Major Eric Dominijanni’s brand to donate $10,000 to the organization

MIAMI – June 2024 – Fior Scotch, the super-premium, hand-crafted, small-batch scotch launched by Marine Major Eric Dominijanni, announced today that it will partner with the non-profit Operation Gratitude.

Launched in 2023, Fior is the first and only Black-owned scotch and the first and only U.S. veteran-owned scotch. Major Dominijanni isn’t your typical Marine or scotch enthusiast. After a 20-year military career as an Assault Amphibian Officer with three tours in Iraq and two in Okinawa, he started to mix various samples of particularly good scotches into what would become his “Infinity Bottle.” Eventually, the blend became so good that he didn’t want to change it. To fulfill his dream, Major Dominijanni tapped industry talent James Landis, who is known for successfully launching and growing brands like Hypnotiq. They were able to help recreate the taste, aroma, and smoothness of that original infinity blend, which is now Fior.

Operation Gratitude is an organization that provides opportunities for Americans to express their gratitude and show the U.S. Military and first responders that what they do matters. Founded in 2003, Operation Gratitude has sent more than four million care packages to active military members, including carefully chosen items meant to boost the morale and resilience of the U.S.  service members and give them warm reminders of home.

Major Dominijanni and his Marines received numerous care packages during his time and formed a friendship with Operation Gratitude’s founder, Carolyn Blashek. Fior’s $10,000 donation will mean Operation Gratitude can send more than 400 care packages to the military.

“We are honored to join forces with this fantastic U. S. Veteran-owned company in support of our mission to deliver Care Packages to our nation’s heroes, like we did to Major Dominijanni years ago,” said Carolyn Blashek, founder of Operation Gratitude.” I am honored to reconnect with one of our early Care Package recipients to make an even greater impact in the future.”

“We are incredibly grateful for Fior Scotch’s generous contribution to Operation Gratitude,” said Meg Barron, Executive Director of Operation Gratitude. “This unique partnership that allows us to work with a former Care Package recipient empowers us to expand our reach. Together, we can continue to uplift and honor our brave Service Members and First Responders.”

“I first met Carolyn during my second tour in Iraq. I have personally benefited from Operation Gratitude’s care packages on several deployments. Each one brought me great comfort, and I truly appreciate it.  I’m proud Fior can donate to this noble cause, and I hope it will go a long way for the organization,” said Major Dominijanni.

Fior has earned a number of impressive accolades since its 2023 inception, including a double gold medal at both the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and New York World Spirits Competition, a 93 rating at the The New York International Spirits Competition, a gold medal from Santé Magazine and a platinum rating at the Ascot Awards.

Fior Scotch is available in stores in New York, South Carolina, Texas and Georgia and online. For more on Fior Scotch, please visit www.fiorscotch.com.

SIG SAUER – ROMEO-X Enclosed Series Red Dot Sights

Saturday, July 6th, 2024

Ever since SIG announced the ROMEO-M17 optic for the Modular Handgun System, customers have been asking for a version to fit their P320 pistols. During the recent SIG NEXT event in New Hampshire, they announced the ROMEO-X Enclosed series of red dot sights.

“The ROMEO-X Enclosed leverages our expertise as the industry leader in combining the durable optic technologies that are trusted by the U.S. military and armed forces around the world with a new standard in strength and reliability for the ultimate compact red dot,” said Andy York, President, SIG SAUER Electro-Optics.  “The ROMEO-X Enclosed has a fully enclosed, sealed, argon purged optical system, so it won’t fog, and has a low deck height so it easily co-witnesses with your standard-height iron sights.  This feature-rich red dot is inspired by the mil-spec ROMEO-M17 that delivers dependability without compromise, trusted by the military, and is the total solution for the most demanding shooters and circumstances.”

They is available in a compact version (ROMEO-X Enclosed COMPACT), to fit micro-compact pistols such as the P365, and a PRO version (ROMEO-X Enclosed PRO), to fit full-size pistols such as the P320.  It is also offered with three different reticles, a 3 MOA Dot, Circle Dot, and 6 MOA Dot.

You’ll note the low deck height for standard-height iron sight co-witness. Also, expect a minimum continuous runtime of 20,000 hours at medium brightness setting. This is partially thanks to their MOTAC™ (Motion Activated Illumination) and MAGNETAC™ (Magnetic Activation) technologies.

According to SIG, the ROMEO-X Enclosed features a distortion-free aspheric glass lens, a patent-pending Beryllium Copper flexure-arm adjustment system, and a 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum housing with machined anti-reflection grooves on shooter facing surfaces.  The ROMEO-X Enclosed Series optics incorporate a high-efficiency point source red LED emitter available in either 3 MOA or 6 MOA dot, and also an available circle dot reticle, side independent brightness adjustment buttons, 15 brightness settings including night vision settings, and a side-mounted CR1632 battery compartment with a threaded battery cap so the optic does not need to be removed from the pistol for battery changes.

The ROMEO-X Enclosed Series optics are now available at sigsauer.com.
