Wednesday, November 18th, 2020

A campaign to educate the public on the realities of a career in Wildland Fire
Bozeman, Mont. (November 18, 2020) –MYSTERY RANCH, the industry-leading pack company built on a heritage of comfortable load carriage, function, and durability for people who have a mission to accomplish, announces the launch of an educational and fundraising campaign to inform the public on the sacrifice and work that goes into responding to the wildland fire environment. The Backbone Series is a multi-pronged campaign that aims to build awareness around what is takes to protect public lands, lives, and private property and to provide scholarships to support and assist in the education of seasonal Forestry Technicians who want to further their careers in or outside of fire.

MYSTERY RANCH created the Backbone Series and Scholarship to help the men and women that go above and beyond in the off-season. Fire Classes, medical training, and college education aren’t cheap. Countless men and women who work for Federal Land Management Agencies seek to better themselves in the off-season to compete for permanent appointments in fire management, whereas some individuals use fire as a means to an end in the pursuit of greater life goals and objectives.

Funding for the scholarships will be supported through the sale of two limited edition lifestyle packs, URBAN ASSAULT 21 and the 3-WAY BRIEFCASE, which will become available online in early 2021. Built in the “wildfire black” colorway with the same zippers, 500D CORDURA® fabric, and detailed pops of orange like our fire packs, 10% of proceeds from these unique packs will fund the scholarship and winning contributors will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Contributors will receive much needed scholarships to support their education and life after firefighting. Winners will be selected anonymously throughout the duration of the campaign.

To qualify for the MYSTERY RANCH Backbone Scholarship, you must be a US or Canadian Wildland Fire employee, retiree, or spouse of a current or retired Wildland Fire employee and a profile contributor for the Backbone Series. Propper Hosts Free Defensive Training Session for Local Law Enforcement

Monday, November 16th, 2020

St. Charles, MO — Missouri-based Propper International recently hosted a full-day training event at the Granite City Police Department’s private gun range on October 29th. Members from police departments across the Greater St. Louis area attended with military police and other federal agencies represented as well.

Throughout the day, they received instruction from renowned tactical trainer Rick Hogg. Hogg is a 29-year US Army Special Operation Combat Veteran with 13 combat deployments between Iraq and Afghanistan. Since returning from overseas, Hogg provides comprehensive firearms training to military and law enforcement through his proven training methodology service company War HOGG Tactical, Inc.

“What I’ve noticed working with several departments across the country is that the onus for sharpening defensive skills lies with the officers themselves,” said Hogg. “I applaud Propper for showing the initiative to give these guys an opportunity to develop their abilities in a group setting and push each other to be better.”

During the morning session, the focus was on increasing efficiency when drawing from a holster and changing magazines, both with dry fire and live rounds. The afternoon session included exercises intended to simulate shooting under duress and also covered first responder medical skills such as how to stop a bleeding wound and apply a tourniquet. Each officer was provided with Propper gear to wear during the training and got to take home a Propper Bail Out Bag after the session concluded.

“Organizing this training exercise seemed like the bare minimum we could do to express our appreciation to these brave individuals who’ve put their lives on the line to keep our community safe,” said Craig Madden, Senior VP of Marketing & eCommerce for Propper.

Fozzy Hoodie Available for Pre-Order from Tactical Distributors

Monday, November 16th, 2020

When I saw TD’s Todd Askins wearing this jacket during a recent hunting trip I was immediately transfixed because it was both Tigerstripe AND fuzzy. It’s starting to cool off here in the Tidewater of Virginia and I do love a fuzzy jacket on a brisk morning.

Turns out, it’s Tactical Distributor’s new Fozzy Hoodie and it’s available for pre-order.

Made from tigerstriped high loft poly fleece, it features a 1/4 zip for ventilation, a zip closure pass though front pocket to store your gloves, and thumb holes for easy layering.

Estimated shipping by November 27.

The Brown Micarta Rigger is the third in a series of limited release knives from Magpul. The first two models went lickety split and there’s no doubt this one will be the same.

This one shares the same CPM S35VN Modified Wharncliffe blade with the differences being cosmetic more than anything; a skeletonized titanium double-locking frame surrounded by linen Brown Micarta scales with a scalloped surface.

Limited to just 200 examples, they will be available only on November 20th at noon EST at Magpul.com.

SCUBAPRO Sunday – Holes in Fins

Sunday, November 15th, 2020

Why should you have or need holes in your fins? Some fins come with holes in some fins now, but only a few companies make them with holes to hang them on your gear. Most fins in the SCUBAPRO line that come with holes mainly have them so the rental company can hang them up to dry and store them together, minimizing the possibility of misplaced or mismatched fins. Holes on the blades of fins make coming out of the water onto the beach or climbing a ladder easier. It allows the water to drain out, so you don’t have to stop and dump it out. The holes can also be used to attach the fins to your wrists or back with the SCUBAPRO fin keepers, or you can use a carbineer and 550 cord.

The SCUBAPRO Jets fins are renowned for their power and durability. They can last a lifetime with proper care. They don’t really get sun damaged, salt eroded, chlorine discolored, travel battered, coral gouged, or split. They are one of the most vital pieces of equipment that you will ever own.

But they didn’t have holes on the blades so that you could hang them upside down. If you want holes in your fins, you would have to use a hole punch and then put a number 5 grommet in there to help keep the fin from ripping. You used a #5 because it was big enough to put a carbineer in the hole if needed, and the brass doesn’t stay shiny for long.

There are a few different ways to attach your fins to your gear. You can put a loop of 550 cord or ½ tape that you can put a carabineer thru and clip it into your H-gear. One of the best ways I have found is to put a male FasTec on one and Female Fastec on the other. This way, you can clip them into each other to hang on the bottom of a ladder. You can also do the same thing on the back of your H-gear so you can clip them on your back.

You can also put a male on one wrist and a female on the other so you can clip them into your wrists to make coming out of the water easier; it also helps if you are doing a ladder climb and you want to keep your fins with you in case you fall off the ladder, and there is a strong current.

For groups that use the Twin Jets or twin jet type fins where there are twin blades, you can’t put holes in as the blade won’t support the fin’s weight. You can hang the fins by their straps or put something around the middle of the fins and hang them on your waist.

There is a lot that goes into the design of all of our products. Almost all things serve a purpose. We make products or update old ones. We have to take many user groups into account, so we ensure we are getting the best product out there for everyone.
