Gould Brothers Break World Record

Sunday, May 30th, 2021

ANOKA, Minnesota – May 27, 2021 – There is a new distance record for breaking a clay target with a shotgun load following an epic day at a rural Minnesota farm. Federal Ammunition sponsored shooters Steve and Aaron Gould, who make up the popular Gould Brothers exhibition team, broke their own record not once but twice outside Osakis, Minnesota on a cold and windy day this spring.

“We are always trying to push the limits of what is possible, and we knew that Federal’s TSS would be the round to make it possible to break a clay pigeon at further distances than we had in the past,” exclaimed Steve Gould.

The previous record was 160 yards set several years back by the duo of brothers. Now with Federal, and having the world’s leading shotshell manufacturer backing them, a new record was ready to be set. The Gould Brothers teamed up with Federal’s Adam Moser, lead shotshell engineer, to better understand the capabilities of Heavyweight TSS in both 7 and 9 shot sizes at extreme ranges.

“The #7 TSS has a significant advantage at 170 yards over the #5 lead at 160 yards. Three times the pellet energy and 100+ more pellets in the payload,” stated Moser, when explaining the differences between Heavyweight TSS and the previously lead load used to set the record.

Having that knowledge, Steve and Aaron Gould attempted the 170-yard shot and Aaron was able to break the record only to be bested minutes later by brother Steve who successfully broke a clay target with Heavyweight TSS #7 at 180 yards!

“We knew we could break the record; we just didn’t know by how much. To pull the trigger of a shotgun and see a clay break at 180 yards, that is pretty cool,” stated Aaron Gould.

“Pulling off incredible shots requires the best performing ammunition and what an exciting accomplishment to witness with one of our category leading products,” stated Jason Nash, Federal’s Vice President of Marketing. “What is even more amazing, is the technology they used to capture the historic event, so fans of the Gould Brothers, Federal, and shooting in general can watch history play out.”

CCI and Federal Sponsored Shooters Broke Several World Records and Won Three Championship Titles at World Speed Shoot

Wednesday, April 28th, 2021

ANOKA, Minnesota – April 21, 2021 – CCI and Federal Ammunition sponsored shooters Grant Kunkel and Chris Barrett broke multiple world records and earned world championship titles in three divisions at the recent World Speed Shoot. The 2021 Steel Challenge Shooting Association World Speed Shooting Championship Match was held April 14-18 at the CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama, presented by CCI and Federal Ammunition.

Of the 637 guns in the match, Kunkel finished high overall and set a new world record in the Rimfire Rifle Iron Division turning in a performance of 53.97 seconds. The previous record was 58.86. Kunkel was the first person to shoot a sub-five-second stage with a 4.98-second finish on the “Smoke and Hope” stage. He also set four stage world records and took 1st place in that division. In addition, Kunkel claimed the world champion title in the Rimfire Rifle Optics Division, second-place finish in the Pistol Caliber Carbine Optics Division and third place in the Rimfire Pistol Optics Division. In all, Kunkel managed to set eight world records for fastest stage time in a given division.

“To have earned a high overall win and set all the records Grant did is amazing,” said Federal’s Shooting Sports Promotions Manager, Jason Spradling. “This is a huge deal. Two years ago, the 60-second mark was broken, and no one thought it would ever be bested. Grant beat it by almost 5 seconds.”

“When I am competing at a World Championship there isn’t any room for error, that is why I use CCI Mini-Mags and Federal Syntech pistol ammunition,” said Kunkel. “Their accuracy and reliability are second to none!”

Kunkel’s CCI/Federal teammate, Chris Barrett, also had a strong showing. Barrett earned his 5th world title in the Pistol Caliber Carbine Irons Division and set new world records on seven stages. Barret uses Federal Syntech in his PCC rifles and Open Division pistol, and CCI Mini-mags in his rimfire rifles and pistol.

“Chris’ hard work and dedication to this sport continue to pay off and we’re extremely proud of his accomplishments,” said Spradling. “We congratulate Grant and Chris on such outstanding performances.”

Mini-Mag was CCI’s original offering, and it’s still one of their most popular. The accurate 22 LR load feeds reliably and minimizes fouling thanks to clean-burning powder, and it feeds reliably thanks to CCI priming and brass. For more information on CCI Ammunition, go to www.cci-ammunition.com.

The exclusive polymer coating in Federal’s Syntech ammunition prevents harsh metal-on-metal contact between the bullet and bore, eliminating copper and lead fouling. Combined with clean-burning powders and the Catalyst lead-free primer, Syntech loads keep your gun cleaner, longer, so you can shoot more—and shoot better. Pilgrim Ammunition Self Defense Pistol Ammunition Now Available

Tuesday, April 20th, 2021

Sarasota, FL – Pilgrim Ammunition, a manufacturer of premium high-velocity, lead-free, defensive pistol ammunition has inventory ready to ship to consumers.  Pilgrim Ammunition’s Torch™ line of cartridges uses premium materials and components and innovative design to produce ammunition that rapidly expands in soft targets to mitigate overpenetration, increases kinetic energy and reduces felt recoil.  Torch™ is available in .380ACP, 9mm +P, .40 S&W and .45ACP +P.

The heart of the design and performance of Torch is the use of a precision CNC machined, all-copper bullet that is lightweight and lead free.  This helps achieve velocities up to 75% faster than traditional pistol ammunition in comparative cartridges, such as up to 2,000fps for the 9mm +P cartridge.  This hyper-velocity allows the lightweight hollow point bullet to penetrate then rapidly expand in a starburst pattern to fully deliver its kinetic energy while mitigating the risk of overpenetration.  To date there has been zero overpenetration during company testing using industry standard ballistic gelatin. The lightweight bullet also reduces the felt recoil which is helpful for controllability and follow-up shots, in particular with smaller and more compact pistols.

Torch® ammunition is now available for consumer direct purchase at Pilgrim Ammunition.  Currently Torch™ is sold in boxes of 20rds each and with an MSRP of $34.95 for the .380ACP, $34.95 for the 9mm +P and 35.95 for the .40S&W +P and $39.95 for the .45ACP +P.  For more information and complete technical specifications, please visit www.pilgrimammunition.com

Rheinmetall and Northrop Grumman Agree to Strategic Partnership for Precision-Guided Enhanced Range Artillery Ammunition

Monday, April 19th, 2021

Rheinmetall and Northrop Grumman have formalized an agreement to cooperate in the field of precision-guided enhanced range artillery ammunition. Rheinmetall’s South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition and Northrop Grumman signed a 10-year strategic partnership agreement to this effect in February 2021. During this period, the two companies plan to cooperate together in order to offer forward-looking ammunition technology to the international market, including the United States, to support future artillery operations.

The partnership will focus, above all, on achieving an enhanced range 155mm artillery round fitted with an integrated M1156 precision guidance kit (PGK), as well as on developing a new 155mm projectile with an improved integrated propulsion system.
In service with a number of armed forces, the M1156 PGK is an inexpensive, immediately available means of enhancing the accuracy of existing types of artillery ammunition. In combination with Rheinmetall’s V-LAP projectile, which currently achieves the longest maximum range of any conventional artillery projectile, the M1156 PGK results in a swiftly available solution, proven in numerous combat operations, for long-range precision-guided munitions. The longest range ever attained by a conventional artillery projectile currently stands at 76 kilometres, achieved in 2019 at the Alkantpan test range with a non-NATO Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding (JBMOU)-conforming 52-calibre gun and RDM 155mm projectile.

The armed forces of more than twelve nations now use enhanced range Rheinmetall artillery ammunition from South Africa. The integration of tried-and-tested technologies results in a quick increase in capabilities and combat power. Furthermore, other NATO nations and non-JBMOU users can adopt this solution based on Rheinmetall’s existing artillery portfolio.

Rheinmetall and Northrop Grumman have conducted testing of the V-LAP projectile variants and PGK in South Africa early in 2021, and are intending to demonstrate it later at the US Army proving ground in Yuma, Arizona.

Federal Ammunition Introduces New 22 LR Punch Personal Defense

Thursday, April 15th, 2021

ANOKA, Minnesota – April 14, 2021 – Different shooters have different needs, different limitations, and different firearms. Yet for all those variables, 22 Long Rifle has never really been an option for personal defense—until now. Federal Premium introduces Punch 22 LR, a new load using a first-of-its-kind 29-grain nickel-plated lead-core bullet, pushed at maximum velocities for the deepest penetration through short-barrel handguns. Shipments of this product have begun to arrive at dealers.

“Self-defense isn’t one size fits all. So, whether shooters want to carry a 22 LR handgun as a backup gun, do not feel comfortable with centerfire pistols, or simply want to get more versatility from a rimfire handgun,” said Federal’s Rimfire Product Manager, Dan Compton, “Punch makes the 22 LR cartridge a viable defensive choice for the first time ever.”

The Punch 22 LR bullet is a departure from standard 22 LR design. It features a flat nose and utilizes a heavy nickel-plated jacket around a lead core. So not only does it travel faster than competing 22 projectiles, but its design also deliberately minimizes expansion and retains weight to maintain sufficient straight-line penetration. That is a lot to ask from a .22 bullet, which is why other manufacturers have shied away from the challenge. But Federal’s engineering team pulled it off, giving America’s favorite cartridge a chance to prove itself for protection.

“We’ve talked about making a 22 LR defensive load for some time. We finally decided that people are already carrying 22 LRs, so we might as well build a .22 bullet optimized for protection,” said Compton. “After much research, we decided that for a .22 LR defense bullet, penetration was more important than expansion.”
