Mojave Travel Shirt Now Available from Beyond Tactical

Friday, June 4th, 2010

Remember the Travel Shirt we wrote about last month? Well Beyond Tactical listened to SSD readers and is now offering it for order. Owner Scott Jones recently reminded us that he has been making tactical softshells since 2003 and the new Mojave Travel Shirt is the natural progression of this technology based on operational requirements. On top of that, it looks good. What’s more, Beyond Tactical products are Berry compliant and made to measure. Scott also told us to watch out for several other new products coming in June. Hopefully, this is the beginning of several new items that blur the lines between civilian and tactical.

Infidel Caps

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Our friends at Tactical Tailor recently surprised us with a package containing a couple of hats from Infidel Caps. It was like Thunderdome around here while everyone jockeyed for their position to yank a cap from the box. Needless to say, Infidel Caps are quite popular here at SSD. They sell unique caps as well as various Mil-Spec Monkey morale patches.

The Operator-style cap features the title “Infidel” across the front in an Arabic script inspired font. The cap also has a 1″ x 1″ section of velcro on the top of the crown top to attach IR tabs. At the rear of the cap is the coolest feature. It is a 2″ x 3.5″ velcro patch for morale patches but has been embroidered with Infidel in Arabic. A new option replaces the rear velcro patch with the phrase, “I Speak Al-Qaeda Click, Click – Bang.” The caps are made in the USA. Their flagship Operator-style Infidel Cap is available in a variety of colors but unfortunately MultiCam is sold out until mid-summer. However, due to popular demand you can pre-order.

Drifire Phenix II Flight Suit

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

We have covered Drifire‘s flight suits in the past but we just received some updated marketing data on their latest incarnation after taking a look at it at the recent ADS Warrior Expo. Available in both Khaki and MultiCam, the Phenix II exceeds Air Force safe to flight characteristics and provides not only FR protection but also moisture wicking and antimicrobial properties. The Khaki variant would be well suited for PMCs operating in IED environments. There are a few other new products coming down the pike from Drifire in the near future so keep your eyes peeled.

Navy Seeks Survival Gear and FR Clothing

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

NAVAIR has issued a Sources Sought Notice for Survival Items and Clothing for use by both Navy and marine Corps personnel. Survival items include equipment to assist isolated personnel in their recovery such as NVD compatible lights, signaling devices, hand held global positioning systems, knives, fire starters, multi purpose tools, water purification devices, hydration carriers and concentrated nutrition. All items should be efficient, compact, lightweight, water resistant, affordable and use common, commercially available batteries as a power source if needed.

The FR clothing side of the house includes items for both air and ground crews like flight suits and gloves, deck jerseys, and anti-exposure suits. They are seeking performance products whether fire resistance, environmental protection, or moisture management. This is an open ended RFI so as vendors come up with applicable items they can submit them.

Nooka Strip Belts

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

We ran across this awhile back and it looks pretty cool. Manufactured by watch maker Nooka, the Strip Belt offers an interesting closure system. The end of the belt is notched and feeds into the buckle. It is held in place by a ratchet system that can be released by simultaneously pushing both buttons on the buckle. This give a much more precise fit than standard notched belts and one size adjusts over 6 inches. Two sized belts are available to accommodate waists from 30 to 41.5 inches. Not only is the design innovative, but the belt itself is made from BASF’s Ellastolan thermoplastic polyurethane material. The Strip Belt is currently available from Nooka in several colors including Grey, Black, and Beige.
