Bundeswehr Requests Delivery of Over 1,000 Logistic Vehicles from Rheinmetall – Order Worth Around €770 Million

The Bundeswehr has commissioned Rheinmetall to supply more than 1,000 logistic vehicles with a total value of around €770m gross. The order comprises 963 vehicles with swap-body systems, some with protected driver cabins, as well as swap-body flatbeds and tarpaulin-arch superstructures.

In addition, 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTV) were requested for delivery. The UTVs are available in 4×4 and 8×8 versions.

“As a reliable partner of the Bundeswehr, we are delighted to be delivering additional vehicles and thus contributing to the mobility and operational readiness of the armed forces”, says André Barthel, Chairman of the Board of Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV).

The delivery of the approximately 1,400 requested vehicles will take place before the end of this year. The orders have been booked for the third quarter of 2025.

The UTVs are c signed in July 2024 – the largest order in the company’s history in the field of logistics vehicles. It provides for the delivery of up to 6,500 vehicles with a gross value of up to €3.5bn. The framework contract allows the Bundeswehr to flexibly order additional quantities of the UTV 5t and UTV 15t models, which are already in service, over a period of seven years. In addition, the new vehicle class, which is now part of the call-off, was introduced via the framework contract. This is the 4×4 variant UTV 3.5 t, which has a maximum number of common parts with the UTV family.
The UTV family has already been contributing significantly to the performance of the Bundeswehr’s logistics units for several years. In July 2017, the Bundeswehr commissioned RMMV to supply its new ‘UTV mil gl in cargo load classes 5t and 15t’ family. Thanks to the use of flexible framework contracts concerning large quantities in military procurement, the UTVs have become a showcase project. Since 2017, around 7,000 HX vehicles have been delivered to the Bundeswehr together with swap-bodies and 70-tonne semi-trailer units.

UTV and swap-body systems are based on RMMV’s robust HX vehicle family. Designed for military use, they offer outstanding mobility even in difficult terrain.

The worldwide distribution of the HX vehicle family provides significant advantages in terms of interoperability and logistics, particularly for multinational operations. In addition to Germany, current users are the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, Slovenia, Denmark and the Ukraine. The new order highlights the high acceptance of the proven HX vehicles. More than 20,000 vehicles are already in use worldwide.

Infantry Ammunition for the Baltic States: Rheinmetall Will Deliver 40mm Ammunition to Lithuania and Hand Grenades to Estonia – Total Order Value Around €33 Million

Rheinmetall has received various orders from Estonia and Lithuania for the delivery of infantry ammunitions. The orders have a total value of around €33 million.

Estonia awarded Rheinmetall a framework contract in the second quarter of 2025 for the delivery of hand grenades. Splinter grenades are to be delivered in 2026 and 2027, and offensive hand grenades from 2026 to 2029 – in significant numbers in each case. The order is worth around €17 million gross.

Back in December 2024, Lithuania had already placed an order with Rheinmetall for several tens of thousands of 40 mm x 46 high-explosive fragmentation (HE Frag) combat cartridges. The order is worth around €16 million gross. The ammunition is to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.

As a “one-stop shop” for 40 mm systems Rheinmetall is one of the world’s leading suppliers of ammunition, weapon systems and firing control systems in this field. Rheinmetall’s 40 mm x 46 low-velocity ammunition can be used in all standard grenade launchers and attachable grenade launchers in this calibre. It reaches a velocity of 76 m/s and has an effective range of 400 metres. Other NATO countries also use this modern ammunition.

Compared to LV cartridges, the new 40 mm x 46 Medium Velocity (MV) ammunition has an acceleration of around 100 m/s and a flat trajectory, so targets can be attacked faster and hence, increases the effective range to 900 m. In 2025, Rheinmetall will bring its Squad Support Weapon 40 to series production, the world’s first magazine-fed automatic shoulder-fired grenade launcher, capable of firing MV and LV ammunition. In combination with the broad spectrum of Rheinmetall’s 40 mm LV/MV ammunition portfolio, infantry users will achieve unprecedented flexibility and effectiveness on the battlefield.

Rheinmetall’s 40 mm ammunition range also includes 40 mm x 53 ammunition (high velocity) for automatic grenade launchers. This has a muzzle velocity of 130 m/s and a range of up to 2,000 metres.

ICE Renews P320 Contract Through July 2027

Despite reports to the contrary, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not banning use of the SIG P320. In fact, according to documents obtained by Soldier Systems Daily, the agency signed a contract extension this week which is valid through 19 July, 2027.

ICE first adopted the P320 in February, 2017 for an initial five-year Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract which had a provision for additional option years. Previously, ICE had optioned two of those years and with this extension, uses another two.

Based on the P320 PRO, the ICE pistol’s full model number is W320CA-9-BXR3-PRO-DHS with a DHS serial number and standard slide catch (the inline PRO model uses the extended slide catch).

The pistol is also available as an ICE approved individual officer purchase through Proven Outfitters as the W320CA-9-BXR3-PRO-DHS-APP.

Saab Receives Order for Mobile Air Defence from the Czech Republic

Saab has received an order for its Mobile Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution from the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. The order value is SEK 1.8 billion and deliveries will take place 2028-2030.

The order includes Saab’s mobile firing units based on the RBS 70 NG short range missile system along with its Bolide missiles. Saab will integrate the MSHORAD solution onto the MARS S-330 vehicle, manufactured by the Czech company SVOS.

The MSHORAD solution will include a command-and-control system delivered by a Czech partner together with Saab, as well as a third-party radar solution already in operation with the Czech Armed Forces.

“We are proud to continue supporting the Czech Armed Forces’ capability, who already operate our RBS 70 NG air defence system in its man-portable setup.

Our MSHORAD solution complements this with a highly mobile configuration, providing additional protection for troops on the move,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics.

German Bundeswehr Selects CZ P-10 F as New Sidearm

Reports indicate that the German Bundeswehr recently selected the CZ P-10 F as their new standard-issue sidearm after a competition conducted by Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw).

The new pistol which beat out the Arex Delta and GLOCK G17 will replace the Heckler & Koch P8 (based on the USP) and be designated as the P13.

The contract promises a minimum order of 62,000 pistols with a ceiling of up to 186,000 total pistols. A €25 million budget for the procurement has been submitted to the Bundestag.

Denmark Buys Four MQ-9B SkyGuardians from GA-ASI

NSPA Supports Denmark and European Countries in MQ-9B Acquisition and Sustainment

SAN DIEGO – 23 July 2025 – Denmark and the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) have announced the procurement of four MQ-9B SkyGuardian® Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) from General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. The purchase includes three Certified Ground Control Stations.

Denmark joins a growing list of European countries that have selected MQ-9B for its multi-domain capabilities with exceptionally long range and endurance. The platform provides pole-to-pole satellite control and de-icing capabilities to enable missions in the harsh conditions of the Arctic in support of Denmark and its NATO Allies. Additionally, MQ-9B’s in-house-developed Detect and Avoid System aids MQ-9B’s ability to fly in unsegregated airspace for domestic civilian operations, making it highly versatile for operations from Denmark.

MQ-9B recently became the first large remotely piloted aircraft to obtain a Military Type Certificate (MTC) from the UK’s Military Aviation Authority, certifying its safe operation without geographic restrictions, including over populous areas.

“It’s been a very productive year for our MQ-9B platforms,” said GA-ASI President David R. Alexander. “First, we earned MTC and now we’ve added Denmark to the U.K., Belgium, and Poland as MQ-9B customers in Europe. I believe the extensive waters of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea, and Baltic Sea of the Nordic countries make the MQ-9B a very effective tool for national maritime surveillance and security.”

MQ-9B SkyGuardian is the first and only unmanned system to offer multi-domain Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Targeting (ISR&T) as an internal payload that can search the ocean’s surface and its depths in support of Fleet Operations. MQ-9B can also be fitted with a number of payloads including a maritime surveillance package with a 360-degree maritime radar and/or sonobuoy dispensing pods.

This sale was aided and supported by NSPA, which has developed a contractual framework for supporting cooperation amongst its member nations and promoting the proliferation of MQ-9B in Europe. NSPA has added MQ-9B to its portfolio of defense systems to contract on behalf of European nations, with the goal of enhancing interoperability while facilitating training and joint operations.

DroneShield – Australia LAND 156 Initial Contracts Announcement

DroneShield has received approximately $5 million in orders, of $16.9 million total

DroneShield (ASX:DRO) is pleased to share the announcement by the Hon Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Defence Industry, regarding the award of a contract under Project LAND 156 to supply handheld counter-drone equipment to the Australian Defence Force.

DroneShield was awarded approximately $5 million of a $16.9 million in contracts (across 11 vendors, including 5 Australian Companies).

The contract involves the provision of portable drone detection and defeat systems designed to support ADF personnel in identifying and mitigating unmanned aerial threats. This procurement forms part of the Commonwealth’s broader initiative to accelerate the acquisition of counter-drone capabilities.

DroneShield will deliver equipment in accordance with the contract terms and project timelines.

In addition to this equipment delivery, DroneShield stands ready to support the ADF as Systems Integration Partner under the broader LAND 156 program. With deep expertise in sensor fusion, electronic warfare, and command-and-control integration, DroneShield is well positioned to contribute to the development of scalable, interoperable counter-drone architectures that meet Defence’s evolving operational requirements.

Rampart Awarded $10M Contract to Supply Rheinmetall 76mm Bi-Spectral Obscurant Grenades to the Department of National Defence

Ottawa, ON – July 22nd, 2025 – Rampart Corp., Canada’s leading supplier of operational equipment to military and Law Enforcement end users, has been awarded a $10 million CAD contract by the Department of National Defence (DND) to supply 76mm Bi-Spectral Obscurant Grenades for use by the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Manufactured by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH (RWM) in Germany, the advanced grenades are designed to create an obscurant screen that conceals armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) from enemy detection systems.
