SureFire Receives Ambrose Award From The National Defense Industrial Association

Friday, November 15th, 2013

SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high performance illumination tools, suppressors and tactical products, proudly announces that it has been presented the Ambrose Award from the National Defense Industrial Association. The Ambrose Award, as described by the NDIA, is established and presented periodically to recognize an Industrial Firm which, in the opinion of the Small Arms Committee Executive Board, has made outstanding contributions to the field of small arms systems.

“The Ambrose Award is named in honor of former Under Secretary of the Army, James R. Ambrose for his recognition of the value and contribution of Industry in meeting the needs of our National Defense. This prestigious award is being presented by the NDIA Small Arms Executive Board on November 12th, 2013, to SureFire, LLC for the contribution and commitment of their employees in support of the mission being performed by US Armed Forces,” said Brian Berger, NDIA Chairman.

The NDIA defines an outstanding contribution as characterized by exemplary commitment and contribution to the Armed Forces by delivering superior material that meets required operational capabilities and supports a high level of force readiness in the conduct of warfighting activities or homeland defense. Such contributions may be shown through a record of continual demonstration of emerging technologies, development of products and systems, establishment of enhanced production capabilities and integration of innovative weapons systems and supporting products and services required by the DoD and Allied countries.

“Our tireless commitment to innovation—spearheaded by our founder and president John Matthews, PhD—has led to the continuous creation of new game-changing products from our engineers, designers, and production professionals,” said Matthew Hemenez, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, who accepted the award on behalf of SureFire. “We do everything in our power to build truly best-in-class products because our mission is to help those who go into harm’s way prevail and come home safely—a mission that will never change.”

In 1979, SureFire pioneered the introduction of laser-aiming sights into the commercial market followed by the invention of the first handgun and shotgun weapon-mounted lights seven years later. The first tactical flashlight, one capable of overwhelming an aggressor’s night-adapted vision and operated via the tailcap, debuted in 1988 and since then SureFire has set the standard for illumination tools and weapon-mounted lights. Continued expansion of its product line, to include high-intensity white-light, IR weaponlights, sound suppressors, hearing protection, and a full line of tactical accessories guarantees SureFire’s commitment to the development of cutting-edge products to assist the warfighters and peacekeepers who go into harm’s way.

“I appreciate this honor and I accept it on behalf of everyone in the SureFire family that has worked tirelessly over the last 33 years, making this company what it is today. I’m humbled to be in such good company in the industry. Thank you to NDIA for recognizing what we do,” said SureFire founder/president, Dr. John Matthews.

Grey Ghost Gear The Exclusive Distributor Of Karrimor SF In The US

Karrimor SF Predator Patrol 45

13 NOV 13 // 21h15 Zulu – At long last, Grey Ghost Gear’s offering of packs built by the UK’s Karrimor SF is finally available! No longer will end users in the US need to order it from across the pond and have it shipped back here (or trade off some of their own kit to the Brits in a deployed location). We’ve got them on hand, in several types and multiple colors, with more to come.

Karrimor SF has been in existence since 1995. It is a direct descendent of the original Karrimor brand that has equipped British soldiers and adventurers since the end of WWII.

Based in Exeter (Devon, UK), Karrimor SF’s gear has fought insurgents and Taliban since OEF and OIF started; it has also literally climbed mountains, gone on safari or otherwise adventured on every continent in the world. The KSF brand was conceived by innovator and designer Deric Gollop and the KSF team, who used contemporary technologies and developments from the civilian world to build specialty packs for military Special Forces and law enforcement units—not unlike what Grey Ghost Gear has been doing here in the US.

“It was a natural fit,” says Grey Ghost Gear’s Director of Business Development Lindsey Lea. “It took nearly a year and a half to get it done, but the Karrimor SF packs are in stock and ready to ship—and so we’re clear, there’s no need to worry about quality. If having the UK’s forces torture test this stuff in Iraq and Afghanistan wasn’t sufficient, we’ve been abusing our own samples in the field. They are good to go.”

Grey Ghost Gear is the exclusive US distributor of Karrimor SF products. Their packs and LBE are built in Vietnam to exacting British MoD (Ministry of Defence) standards, supervised by KSF personnel who live on site. You can see the entire line of packs here.

“You won’t have to drink tea and crumpets or call it a bergen to wear Karrimor SF,” Lindsey says. “No scones or Earl Grey or funny accent required—just a desire for well built, field-proven gear.”

Tactical Tailor Announces Products In PenCott Camouflage Patterns

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

This has been in the works for a little while and we’re happy to see it announced. I’d expect a few other announcements along these lines coming in the near future as well.

20131106-204151.jpg

Tactical Tailor, supplier of rugged, 100% American-made tactical equipment to Warfighters around the world, is proud to announce it will be building equipment in the PenCott™ family of camouflage patterns.

The effectiveness camouflage should not gauged by popularity, nor aesthetic appeal. Camouflage is measured by its ability to mask shape and form to prevent detection. The successful use of camouflage—or its compromise—often determines mission success, mission failure and even mission completion. It is for this reason that Hyde Definition calls their patterns Mission Critical Camouflage, and it’s because of PenCott’s efficacy that TT added the Badlands™ and GreenZone™ variants to its equipment camo pattern options.

“We haven’t just looked at T&E results,” says Tactical Tailor’s GW Ayers, “We did our own research. We took it to the field and sent it overseas…the results are in. We need to offer PenCott™.”

“Tactical Tailor makes some of the most rock solid and effective gear on the planet,” says Lawrence Holsworth, Hyde Definition’s Director of Business Development. “It’s a great honor to be working with them—and a testament to the effectiveness of PenCott™’s patterns that they chose us.”

Hyde Definition’s family of patterns features a unique, hybrid, 3-in1 pattern geometry that is more organic and natural looking than typical camouflages. It provides superior concealment at all ranges. Founder Dominic Hyde realized the deficiencies of many such patterns years ago and set out to design a new pattern geometry that would be more effective and adaptable than any other patterns available.

“The PenCott™ patterns are enjoying great growth internationally,” Holsworth advises, “so teaming up with Tactical Tailor will help us consolidate and build on that success in the US market as well.”

Tactical Tailor will initially be offering equipment in BadLands™ (for dry, upland, bushland, semi-arid and transitional terrain) and GreenZone™ (for verdant temperate, tropical and semi-tropical operations). There are two other patterns, with a fifth in development: SandStorm™ (for arid, desert terrain) and SnowDrift™ (for snow and winter terrain). The last pattern is called MetroPolis. It’s an urban/industrial/low-light pattern scheduled for release in 2014.

“Sandstorm™ and SnowDrift™ are great patterns, no doubt,” Ayers continues, shading his eyes with a grin and looking into the distance. “and MetroPolis is intriguing. However, I can neither confirm nor deny we’ll be doing anything with those in the future.”

MATBOCK Celebrates 2nd Anniversary

Tuesday, November 5th, 2013

MATBOCK has been featured several times here on SSD, but if you are still not familiar, it is a company founded by two SOF Veterans with experience in some nasty places around the world. Their slogan “Lighter Faster Warriors” is embodied in everything they design as they seek out truly innovative methods of solving problems, both old and new, presented in tactical operations.

From their flagship Night Vision Auto-Focus Enhancement device the Tarsier Eclipse to their first products, the Constrictor Cargo Net System and Tree-Go IZLID Pouch, MATBOCK continues to push the bounds of traditional product development and problem solving. They leverage their SOF experience across the globe and work with former teammates and partners to bring innovation to market to benefit the warfighter.

In November MATBOCK celebrates their second anniversary and is planning several give-aways once reaching 2K “Likes” on Facebook. In the mean time, they are steadily handing out swag to their supporters. Below is the official press release announcing their two year anniversary and you can find more info about the company at www.matbock.com and Facebook.

Special Forces Veterans Use Innovation and Experience to Bring Unique and Effective Gear to the Military

Summary: Two SOF Veterans see huge growth in their small business by innovating new gear to help operators and civilians fight smarter, save lives quicker and turn opportunity into victory.

MATBOCK, a debt free, service-disable veteran owned and operated small business launched a unique product line of tactical gear in November 2011. Since it’s inception, MATBOCK has seen consistent growth and positioning in the marketplace. As an independently owned, service disabled veteran operated company, MATBOCK uses innovation and experience to build specialized gear to give military, law enforcement, and even civilians products that offer maximum advantages in multiple situations.

With 18 years of combined Special Forces experience, the backbone of MATBOCK is two professionals who work 365 days out of the year. “Our warriors deploy without any days off and we will be here to answer their needs all day every day.” said Sean Co-Founder & CEO of MATBOCK. “We understand the need to be not only innovative, but also provide our customers the best products and have them available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

2013 has been a successful 2nd year in business for MATBOCK as 4 new products were introduced to the marketplace and each have quickly become appreciated as necessary items amongst elite Special Forces and other operators. Boasting over 2000% growth heading into 2014, MATBOCK has a list of products to introduce in 2014, proving their stability and commitment to excellence and innovation.

Starting with the launch of the Tree-Go IZLID Pouch and ending 2013 with the launch of the long awaited Tarsier Eclipse, MATBOCK has received great praise throughout all markets about the diversity, quality and innovativeness of their product line. For example, with MATBOCK’s S-LIFT, Police Officers in urban areas are now empowered to succeed in mass casualty situations. Black bear hunters in the Northeast are using the S-LIFT and Combat Carbon Poles to pack out their big game. Lastly, our combat warriors overseas are using the S-LIFT to rescue and evacuate wounded every single day. “Our goal from day one was to bring something new to our military personnel and heroes around the world. With each new product we introduce, we want to look at every aspect and make sure nothing goes unquestioned. Ounces equal pounds and we will make sure that every ounce has a purpose for the operator” says Zach, Co-Founder and COO of MATBOCK “we know what it feels like to carry wasted pounds or single use gear. We want to change that with every product we introduce”.
