NFM initially launched the HJELM at Milipol 2019. Overall, it’s the most revolutionary helmet we’ve seen in quite awhile, introducing multiple new technologies all at once.

Royal Australian Air Force Transitions from ‘Airmen’ to ‘Aviators’
Monday, April 12th, 2021The Royal Australian Air Force has replaced the term ‘airmen’ with ‘aviators’ as it enters its second century.

Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld, AO, DSC revealed this change on 31 March, at a centenary dinner which hosted past and present aviators.
Air Marshal Hupfeld said that as Air Force charts its path forward, he wants to instil a stronger sense of identity.
“Of all the work that has been done in developing our Air Force culture, the most challenging dilemma has been fully explaining who we are,” Air Marshal Hupfeld said.
“We understand well enough what we are and what we do – but have never quite managed to successfully articulate WHO we are.
“We are ALL aviators.
“As an Air Force, we are born of the air and space.It is our home, and the place from which we serve our nation. Our trade is Aviation.
“In everything that we do, we are aviators first and foremost. All of us, by virtue of what we do and what we believe. It is what binds us together.”
Air Marshal Hupfeld cautioned against confusing the role of pilots with Air Force personnel’s common and collective purpose to the nation – “to think, act and imagine from the perspective of the skies and space above us.”
The change was timed with the announcement to revamp Air Force culture through the Our Air Force, Our Culture program.
The new program builds on the foundation of previous measures, and closely aligns with the update to the Air Force Strategy launched in 2020.

Schiebel Camcopter S-100 Performs Maritime Surveillance for Romanian Border Police
Saturday, April 10th, 2021Vienna, 8 April 2021 – The Romanian Border Police operates the CAMCOPTER® S-100 for maritime surveillance purposes. The Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) service is delivered by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and is also extended to Bulgaria.
Stationed in Mangalia, the CAMCOPTER® S-100 supports the Romanian authorities in carrying out general Coast Guard functions, conducting day-to-day monitoring and surveillance of all shipping including port security, as well as responding to any search and rescue, accident and disaster needs. The S-100 executes these various tasks equipped with an L3 Wescam Electro-Optical / Infra-Red (EO/IR) camera gimbal, an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch, a Becker Avionics BD406 Emergency Beacon Locator and an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver.
Operations in Romania and Bulgaria are part of the EMSA awarded multi-year maritime surveillance contract for a Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) RPAS, awarded to Schiebel in November 2018. In the execution of this contract, Schiebel provides simultaneous maritime surveillance services to several EU member states and EU bodies. Most recently, the CAMCOPTER® S-100 was operational in France, Denmark, Finland and Croatia.

UF PRO Introduces Tough-as-Nails Yet Ultra-Comfortable Striker X Combat Shirt to Meet Demanding Needs of Military Operatives

He mentioned that increased ventilation is also possible by unfastening the openings located in the upper sleeves—one more improvement made to the shirt.
“These openings are strategically positioned to deliver a cooling airflow that helps keep wearers’ core temperature right where it’s supposed to be so that they can stay on top of their game rather than wilting from excess heat buildup and consequently losing their mental focus,” he said.
Wearer protection is increased as well, Wagner revealed. Specifically, the Striker X Combat Shirt at its elbows features anatomically shaped pockets designed to receive UF PRO Flex-Elbow Pads.
UF PRO said it plans to make the Striker X Combat Shirt available in four camouflage patterns/colour schemes: MultiCam; Brown Grey; Flecktarn; and Steel Grey.

Cierzo Suits have a nerdily interesting history. Are you sitting comfortably? The first mention of them we have found was as garments made by SAS Troopers from their parachutes after they had dropped into France prior to D-Day.

New Bundeswehr Air Defense System: Rheinmetall, Diehl and Hensoldt are Lining Up Together
Saturday, April 3rd, 2021Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH of Bremen, Diehl Defence GmbH & Co. KG of Überlingen and Hensoldt Sensors GmbH of Taufkirchen have signed a joint agreement to cooperate in a special partnership known as an “Arbeitsgemeinschaft”, or ARGE. Under the framework of ARGE NNbS, the three companies will submit a tender for the future German short-range and very short- range air defence system, the LVS NNbS.
The NNbS project bridges a current capability gap when it comes to protecting ground troops during deployed operations as well as securing tactical operation centres and other assets against short- and very short-range aerial threats.
The three companies aim to provide a national, low-risk solution that will be quickly available thanks to the use of commercially available systems and system components. The conceptual system design of ARGE NNbS relies primarily on proven systems and subsystems, including integration of components already in use by the Bundeswehr.
A further advantage of ARGE NNbS is comprehensive logistical support in Germany for the short-range and very short-range air defence system.
Thanks to the complementary core competences of the three national bidders, the ARGE possesses the prerequisites, qualifications and expertise to meet all of the customer’s needs.
Rheinmetall’s Electronic Solutions and Vehicle Systems divisions bring expert technological knowledge and years of experience in developing and supplying defence systems, especially in the fields of vehicles, communication and integration.
Diehl Defence specializes in the development and manufacture of guided missiles. It has established itself in the international marketplace with modern system solutions for ground-based air defence.
As a supplier of key national technologies, Hensoldt will be contributing its expertise as well as battle-tested products such as radars.
