Spectra Group Launches New SlingShot Tactical Operations Centre System (STOCS)

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020

Spectra Group (UK) Ltd, world-leading provider of high-grade information security and communication capabilities, has announced the addition of a new product to their portfolio: the SlingShot Tactical Operations Centre System (STOCS). Spectra’s STOCS adds additional capability and operability to the already hugely successful SlingShot tactical satellite communications system.

STOCS is a specially designed and modified version of SlingShot that allows the user to communicate beyond line of sight (BLOS) while being up to 35 meters from the antenna. Because it operates on L-Band, the current configuration limits the current SlingShot system to being operated at a remote distance of up to 10 meters (depending on system type) from the antenna, which in most operational scenarios is sufficient, for example, in a vehicle or when dismounted. However, in response to customer requests, the new STOCS variant of SlingShot enables the user to now operate in more enclosed locations such as a command HQ, a tactical operations room, any type of building, a protected bunker or when dug in. In all scenarios, by placing the antenna away from the operator they can remain in cover whilst still effectively communicating via the satellite. The STOCS hardware has been ruggedized and weatherproofed (IP67) to enable the user to leave it in a more exposed position, such as a rooftop, without any risk to the electronics.

In April 2019, Spectra’s SlingShot was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation. SlingShot is a unique, lightweight system that enables existing, in-service tactical military and commercial VHF/UHF radios to utilise commercial L-band satellite coverage (COMSATCOM). The technology delivers Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) Comms on the Move (COTM) with low-latency voice and data connectivity to radio networks for ground, vehicle, maritime and airborne platforms.  SlingShot’s unique capability provides reliable, secure communications between widely dispersed military forces and/or civilian agencies operating in austere and hostile environments, without the cost, delay or logistical challenges of deploying additional infrastructure. Over 3500 SlingShot systems are in operation worldwide in the Manpack, Vehicle, Maritime and Aviation variants. Spectra Group’s new STOCS now adds further capability for existing and future users of the wider SlingShot system.

Simon Davies, CEO of Spectra Group said: “the launch of the new STOCS product enhances our offering and adds significant additional capability to the user. Effective communication is a fundamental part of command and control centre operations so being able to use SlingShot in these scenarios is a game changer for global special forces and other defence and security units or organisations”. He added: “here at Spectra Group we’re very focused on innovation and we’re constantly working to evolve and enhance our product and service offering. The addition of STOCS to our product line is a great example of that. We’ve listened to what our customers need and developed STOCS to deliver the required capability enhancements”.

Varusteleka – Särmä TST LW18 Chest Rig

Monday, November 2nd, 2020

Varusteleka’s Särmä TST LW18 Chest Rig is a skeletonized, PALS compatible platform made from sewn 25mm nylon webbing. The shoulder straps are wider at 50mm.

If you’re wondering why it’s four rows high, that’s because the Finns use longer, AK-style magazines for their RK rifles. They need a little more real estate.

Zoll and Claire, Inc Sign Exclusive Agreement for Outside-the-US Distribution of Portable Oxygen Concentrator

Monday, October 26th, 2020

October 20, 2020 — Chelmsford, MASS. — ZOLL® Medical Corporation, an Asahi Kasei company that manufactures medical devices and related software solutions, and CAIRE, Inc., a leading oxygen supply manufacturer, today announced the signing of an exclusive distributor agreement. As part of this agreement, ZOLL has exclusive rights to distribute the SAROS® 4000 Portable Oxygen Concentrator in all markets outside the U.S. in combination with ZOLL’s EMV+® ventilator.

By combining the EMV+ ventilator with the SAROS 4000 Oxygen Concentrator, remote medics will be able to deliver high-end, oxygen-enriched critical care ventilation and oxygenation therapy without the use of oxygen cylinders, which present refilling and logistical challenges and are a hazardous threat in armed conflicts.

“The logistical burden of exchanging empty oxygen cylinders in the field presents considerable challenges for militaries, including the risk of explosion and the need for aircraft and personnel to transport the cylinders to and from the field,” said Elijah A. White, President of ZOLL Resuscitation. “This is a game- changing advancement for all military medical services and disaster relief organizations in their efforts to provide lifesaving therapies during their missions.”

“SAROS broke new ground as the first and only oxygen concentrator designed specifically for military use,” said Earl Lawson, President and CEO of CAIRE. “Our agreement with ZOLL enables us to increase global access to this important technology. Coupled with the EMV+ ventilator, it will dramatically improve the delivery of care in emergent situations.”

About the ZOLL EMV+ Ventilator

The EMV+ is a rugged and lightweight portable ventilator designed to meet military and civilian transport standards. With its energy-efficient, integrated high-flow compressor and oxygen system, it is ideal for air medical and ambulance transport for infants (>= 5 kg), pediatric patients, and adults.

True Velocity Ammunition Advances to Shortlist for Australian LAND 159 Force Modernization Program

Composite ammunition manufacturer vying to outfit Australia’s military through next generation equipment procurement process

GARLAND, TX (October 26, 2020) – Australia-based NIOA, a company specializing in the supply and sustainment of weapons and munition systems to the Australian Defense Force (ADF), has invited Texas-based True Velocity to the next stage in the LAND 159 Lethality Systems Project procurement process. The LAND 159 project will equip the men and women of the ADF with next-generation pistols, assault rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, direct fire support weapons, and ammunition. True Velocity, which manufactures composite cased ammunition for military, law enforcement and civilian use, will specifically participate in the narrowed search for next generation ammunition solutions.

“Being added to the shortlist for the LAND 159 program is clear acknowledgment of the benefits that composite ammunition can deliver to the warfighters of the future,” said Chris Tedford, President of True Velocity. “The composite casings we produce provide advantages on the battlefield through improved accuracy, reduced wear and tear on firearms, and a significant reduction in the weight of the ammunition itself compared to traditional brass. True Velocity also offers NIOA and ADF a partner that can put unmatched innovation in ammunition production technology to work benefitting overall logistics and spending.”

In collaboration with the Commonwealth of Australia, NIOA serves as Prime Contractor for the LAND 159 program. NIOA’s role includes identifying and approaching market providers such as True Velocity on behalf of the Commonwealth to identify and evaluate Sniper and Close Combat weapon systems and provide acquisition and support recommendations for future defense needs. Program participants ultimately selected will deliver next generation weapons and ammunition to the ADF in three phases or “tranches” over the next decade.

“For NIOA, the LAND 159 program is all about the next generation of Australia’s defense industry and, most importantly, the next generation of the ADF,” CEO Robert Nioa said. “The work of these young men and women is entrusted to all of us involved in the LAND 159 program. Their safety, and their ability to successfully complete missions is of the utmost importance and is why we must ensure that the ADF has the best equipment and ammunition available for years to come.’’
