FirstSpear Friday Focus— FirstSpear Wins MAAWS Pocket Contract for MARCORSYSCOM

Friday, October 16th, 2020

Photo Credit: Department of Defense. US Marines fire a Carl Gustaf weapon system on Townshend Island at the Shoalwater Bay training area in Australia, July 21, 2017, during Talisman Saber 17.

Next year, the United States Marine Corps will begin fielding the 84mm MAAWS, a recoilless rifle weapons system to every squad in the corps. While the original version of the launcher was introduced in 1946, the ammunition has evolved significantly. The newest round, developed by Raytheon, is a precision-laser guided projectile with a multi-target warhead, capable of defeating bunkers, concrete, light-skinned vehicles and armored personnel carriers. Additionally, it has a range of nearly 2,000 meters and can be fired from inside an enclosed room.

FirstSpear is proud to announce it has received a contract to produce up to 10,200 of the company’s 84mm MAAWS Ammunition Pouch, to help Marines carry munitions under a balanced load in combat situations and quickly deploy them as needed. Awarded on September 25, 2020, the company is already ramping up production and will manufacture all pockets in the U.S. with Berry Compliant materials.

FirstSpear designed the pouch to be adjustable in length from 18 to 38 inches to accommodate a variety of projectiles, to meet current infrared requirements, and be compatible with current Marine Corps load bearing equipment. Zippered across both ends for ease of loading, the closed pocket design limits sand and debris exposure. It features an internal pocket primer protector and it comes equipped with an adjustable sling and tube straps for use with a hard case. Like all FirstSpear products, the 84mm MAAW Ammunition Pouch was designed to be durable, lightweight and highly functional.

FirstSpear Friday Focus— Retro-Fit Cummerbund

Friday, October 9th, 2020

This week’s focus is all about the Retro-Fit Cummerbund. Combining all the features of the Overlap Cummerbund, including a strong elastic back that provides security and comfort, the Retro-Fit Cummerbund is a great solution for those utilizing a different plate carrier that want to use FirstSpear’s 6/12 modular platform and Tubes technology. The low-profile loop interior for mounting our hook-backed Ragnar pockets for radios, extra mags inside the cummerbund, making users lighter and faster with a slimmer profile.

SPECS:

Model: Retro-Fit Cummerbund

Size: Small (26”–32”); Medium (32”–38”); Large (35”–41”); XL (38”-44”); 2XL (41”–47”); 3XL (48”–52”)

Colors: Black, Coyote, Multi-Cam, Ranger Green

FirstSpear’s Tubes Rapid-Release Technology solves many of the problems with common closure methods on plate carriers. The common closure in the front with the hook & loop fasteners can present many performance failures. It not only adds bulk, it is noisy, and retains water and mud; from a safety standpoint, the hook and loop closures can cause cummerbund protection items (like side plates, inflatable flotation) to shift position and misalign from where they should be to offer maximum protection.

Tubes technology has solved all these challenges. Quick to close, and even quicker to remove, the Retro-Fit Cummerbund utilizes Tubes to allow end users to utilize this capability and the 6/12 Modular Platform without completely changing your entire load carriage platform. This kit is compatible with carriers that utilize traditional hook and loop flap systems and cummerbund pass-through channel. It accepts both soft armor and 6 in. x 6 in. hard plates.

Constantly pushing the envelope in technological advances to better serve the warfighter and first responders, check out First-Spear.com. To read more about our technology advancements, go to First-Spear.tech.

Qore Performance IceVents Aero Universal Holster Pad Solves the Pain in the Hips

Wednesday, September 30th, 2020

Sterling, VA – Qore Performance recently expanded their popular IceVents lineup of unique padded ventilation solutions to include a simple fix for a universal hotspot on the hip under rigid, mid-length drop holsters. IceVents Aero Universal Holster Pad was built to comfortably mitigate the friction and pressure build up from long-term wear of holsters using SafariLand’s UBL platform and other similar mounts.

From Qore Performance Co-Founder and CEO, Justin Li, “We all love the SafariLand UBL and QLS system, but we all also had a pretty annoying pressure point on our hips after full days of training on the range, which brought back memories of painful shifts on duty. With relatively minor adjustments, IceVents Aero became a simple and effective solution. The initial feedback we’ve received is that we weren’t the only ones feeling this pain.”

The IceVents Aero Universal Holster Pad incorporates the extruded thermoplastic honeycomb of IceVents used for shoulder, chest, and duty belt padding and ventilation, and adds a breathable loop pile backing that attaches easily to the SafariLand UBL with a small piece of adhesive-backed hook tape. Qore Performance also includes a section of two-sided Velcro OneWrap in the package for additional security if desired.

IceVents Aero Universal Holster Pad continues the Qore Performance record of addressing thermoregulation challenges that inhibit human performance. Check out the rest of their IceAge EcoSystem for other effective solutions in temperature regulation and hydration for tactical, law enforcement, and industrial safety professionals.
