First Ascent Mountain OPs Jacket

Thursday, December 13th, 2012

The Mountain OPs Jacket from Eddie Bauer’s First Ascent line caught my eye during a recent Christmas shopping excursion to the local mall. It’s as if someone had taken a mechanic’s garage jacket and modernized it…really modernized it.

20121213-125752.jpg

With a 500D Cordura nylon shell, the Mountain OPs jacket integrates 700 fill goose down insulation and an updated look. It boasts 7 pockets including an angled, flapped chest pocket pocket on the left as well as an inset bicep pocket on the left arm and angled pen pocket on the right sleeve. In addition to slash hand warmer pockets, it also features a single pocket on the interior.

The little details really make this jacket. It includes knit collar and inset knit cuffs as well as a fleece chin cup for comfort in the cold.

It is generously cut and designed to layer. Order your correct size unless you want a slim fit, then go down one size. Offered in regular and tall lengths sizes Small – XXLarge. Smoke Grey with Red accents. Remember, Grey is the new Black.

Kletterwerks Update

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

In early summer we introduced you to Kletterwerks; the latest project from the folks at Mystery Ranch. You see, way back in 1975, long before there was a Mystery Ranch or even a Dana Designs, there was Kletterwerks. Although short lived it was founder Dana Gleason’s first foray into the pack business. Since then he’s learned a thing or two while running those other companies we know so well. Resurrected earlier this year, Kletterwerks is now the baby of the Dana Gleason III, better known as D3. Really more of a lifestyle brand, they’ve taken design cues from those early packs and updated materials and construction. I saw the line at Summer OR and it looks great.

Now, they’ve launched a website so you can stay abreast of what they are up to. While there, check out the line and maybe order a pack or two.

Oakley Airwave – GPS Enabled Goggle

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

20121101-201940.jpg

The Oakley Airwave goggle was designed for the snowsports market. It integrates GPS, Bluetooth into a heads up display equipped goggle. Maps, temperature, jump analytics, speed, playlists and even the location of your friends are all accessible via an embedded screen that appears as if you are 5′ away from a 14″ monitor.

I’d expect to see these on Rob Curtis soon.

The Badass Outdoors Gear Shop

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

20121021-204558.jpg

During a recent visit to Littleton, New Hampshire I noticed a small gear shop right on the Main Street through town. I love supporting small businesses so I stopped in and buy am I glad I did. As I took a look around I noticed some really great product lines. Then, I ran across a full rack display of every issue of Survival Quarterly. I asked the shopkeeper about the magazine and it turns out he writes for it. Matt Keating and his wife moved their business from Prescott, Arizona and approach the outdoor business from a little bit different angle. Their passion for the outdoors is not only reflected in their wares but also in the training services they provide. In addition to trying out every product before they sell them, they will also train anyone who purchases the item in how to properly use it. They also conduct monthly lectures in their shop.

Check out their website and pay particular attention to their blog. And, if you find yourself in Littleton like I did, give them a visit.

OR Follow – Up Arc’teryx Spring 13 – Pt 2

Thursday, August 9th, 2012

As if the hoody and pants we showed earlier today wasn’t enough, we thought you might like these as well.

I am a Big fan of hoodies and I can’t wait for the Witness Hoody which features a full length zipper opening.

20120808-165027.jpg

In their product display, Arc’teryx paired the Witness with the Aristo Pant. As you can see it features an uber-articulated knee. Below is a little better look at the knee detail. It is somewhat reminiscent of the articulation found on the Drac/Sphinx/Talos minus the webbing reinforcement.
