Rheinmetall Expands its Maintenance Capability in Australia

Wednesday, April 30th, 2025

DARWIN, AUSTRALIA: Rheinmetall, the largest supplier of defence vehicles and a prime contractor to the Australian Defence Force, has expanded its maintenance capability in the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Joern Buelter, Rheinmetall Defence Australia General Manager Logistic Vehicles, said the organisation has provided Medium Heavy Capability (MHC) Introduction and Maintenance training in association with partner RGM Maintenance.

“Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s training program ensures that RGM’s certification levels are the same as those performed by Australian Army personnel at Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory on Rheinmetall MAN vehicles across the HX Truck fleet.

“The partnership reflects the strong commitment to regional maintenance capability development as outlined in the recent Defence Strategy Review (DSR) to force posture in the north of Australia.

“The growing fleet in Northern Territory and Northern Queensland means that Rheinmetall has delivered OEM HX Logistic Vehicle maintenance training to RGM Maintenance personnel from Darwin, Townsville and Rockhampton, strengthening sustainment capability across the north,” Mr Buelter said.

Mr Buelter said that RGM first joined with Rheinmetall in 2022 to bring ongoing secure jobs, training and sovereign industrial capability to regional Australia.

“RGM is the only trade repair organisation Rheinmetall has provided this certification to and is the in-region OEM repairer of choice.

“This training reinforces the enduring partnership between Rheinmetall and RGM Maintenance to successfully sustain the HX vehicles in-region.”

“Responding to the evolving needs of the Australian Defence Force is an ongoing commitment for Rheinmetall. We have established maintenance support in Queensland (Townsville and Rockhampton), Northern Territory and in Western Australia.

“Our head office maintenance bases in Ipswich at our Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence ensures the needs of Australia and its allies are well served,” Mr Buelter added.

In February, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia celebrated the achievement of LAND 121 3B/5B program Final Acceptance, signifying the successful delivery on time and on budget of more than 3000 HX Trucks and 3000 modules. The HX truck is a workhorse of the Australian Army, providing unmatched capability for Australia’s Defence Force.

The six cylinder, in-line diesel engine vehicle with a weight of more than 41,000 kilograms, operates in temperatures -32o to +49 o and can traverse water depths of more than 1.2 metres. Capabilities include; an Integrated and Automated Load Handling System, Crane, Container Carrier, Recovery, Tractor, Tanker, Tipper, System Carrier and Artillery System.

Marks the Dawn of Transition from Full-Rate Production to Lifelong Sustainment

Amarillo, TEXAS (April 28, 2025) – Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, and Boeing [NYSE: BA] celebrate the upcoming completion of the CV-22 Program of Record (POR) for the U.S. Air Force. Bell and Boeing commemorated the V-22 Osprey production milestone during a ceremony at the Bell Amarillo Assembly Center on April 18.

“Completing the CV-22 production aircraft for the U.S. Air Force is an immense honor and testament to the amazing men and women who have worked to design, engineer, and build these incredible aircraft,” said Eldon Metzger, Bell V-22 program director. “As we reach this milestone of CV-22 production we embark on the next chapter of our journey as we transition from full-rate production to fleet wide sustainment.”

The V-22 is the first tiltrotor aircraft introduced into military service and has successfully provided speed, range, and terrain agnostic capabilities unlike any other aircraft. The U.S. Air Force is the first of the U.S. military branches who operate the V-22 Osprey with improved nacelles to complete their program of record for new build aircraft.

“The CV-22 Osprey represents the dedication and determination of all those who had a hand in creating a unique aircraft and capability for the U.S. Air Force,” said Kathleen (KJ) Jolivette, vice president and general manager, Vertical Lift for Boeing Defense, Space & Security.  “We are proud of all the work that has gone into the program over the years and look forward to maintaining the CV-22 for decades to come in support of its mission critical operations.”

The Air Force variant of the Osprey is designed specifically for special operations missions leveraging the speed and range advantages too long and complex for other aircraft. Some high-profile CV-22 Osprey missions include:

The longest distance nighttime hostage rescue of American citizens in the Department of Defense history.

The evacuation of 194 people from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Landing on a naval vessel traveling at full speed more than 250 nautical miles from land to rescue an American during a medical emergency.

The final CV-22 aircraft will complete production in the coming months before delivery to the U.S. Air Force. With the completion of the CV-22 Program of Record, Team Osprey, the group of industry partners supporting the V-22, is now focused on fleet wide sustainment and upgrades for the U.S. Air Force Osprey variant. Bell and Boeing continue to build new MV-22 and CMV-22 variants for the U.S. Marine Corps and the Navy.

The New traser P99 Iris Limited Edition with Patented Iris Diaphragm

Full Control Over Light and Darkness

Since the invention of the world’s first self-illuminating wristwatch in 1989, traser has stood for pioneering spirit and highly functional watch technology. Now, traser once again sets new standards – and introduces not just one but two groundbreaking innovations with the special edition P99 Iris, limited to 300 pieces. The combination of next-generation Super Powered trigalights and a flexibly closable iris diaphragm ensures optimal readability with absolute control. Both Swiss-made solutions are patented and the result of years of development.

Permanent light sources allow an ideal time display even in prolonged darkness. While the “Always-on Technology” offers high reliability, it could not be flexibly turned on or off at the push of a button – until now. After extensive development, traser presents an entirely new application in the watch sector: a closable iris diaphragm that can completely darken the dial in an instant. This innovation is paired with another first in the P99 Iris Limited Edition: the introduction of even brighter Super Powered trigalights.

traser thus combines two seemingly opposing elements into one highly performative package: unrestricted readability with complete concealment.

Two Worlds United: Light and Darkness

A quarter turn of the ergonomically grooved bezel counterclockwise is all it takes to close the 16-blade iris diaphragm. Opening it is just as intuitive – a clockwise turn retracts the blades beneath the case rim, providing and unobstructed view of the high-contrast dial. The mechanism is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and has been rigorously tested for durability. Since the blades require no lubrication, the P99 Iris Limited Edition is maintenance-free and guarantees consistently precise operation.

Consistently precise also describes the time readability: Like all traser watches, the P99 Iris features the in-house self-powered trigalight technology, which illuminates hands and dial markers continuously –without any external energy source. This special edition marks the first-ever use of the Super Powered trigalight elements in a watch. Thanks to special coating, the capillaries offer increased luminosity, making the P99 Iris’s indices stand out with unprecedented clarity.

Limited Availability – Unlimited Functionality

While access is restricted to 300 pieces, the uncompromising functionality of the P99 Iris has absolutely no restrictions: The iris diaphragm, dial and PVD-coated stainless-steel case are deliberately kept in matt black to avoid light reflections. The case with a water-resistance up to 10 bar, a screw-down crown and the solid screw-in back with the engraved limitation number provide effective protection for both the iris mechanism and the Swiss quartz movement inside.

A rubber or textile strap, either all black or with a camouflage pattern, fastens the limited edition securely and comfortably on the wrist.

Constant visibility or complete concealment – the choice is now in the hands of the wearer.

The announcement follows SMARTSHOOTER’s successful participation in a live-fire kinetic and non-kinetic Counter-UAS evaluation at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California. During the October 2024 event, SMARTSHOOTER demonstrated the SMASH 2000L Fire Control System mounted on a standard M4 rifle, successfully eliminating multiple drone threats across two days of live testing.

Michal Mor, CEO of SMARTSHOOTER, stated: “The integration of SMASH 2000L with the Marine Corps’ MAGTAB system empowers warfighters to instantly share and act on critical battlefield information. Combined with our recent live-fire successes, SMARTSHOOTER continues to deliver the technology edge needed to dominate the modern battlefield.”

Deployed and combat-proven by forces worldwide —including the US Marine Corps, the US Army, and the IDF— SMARTSHOOTER’s SMASH family of Fire Control Systems (FCS) is equipped with onboard computing that delivers complex targeting solutions. Once the user identifies and locks onto a target, SMASH tracks its movement and synchronizes the shot release for a fast, precise hit. By leveraging AI, computer vision, and advanced algorithms,  SMASH enhances lethality, precision, and situational awareness, while reducing collateral damage.
