ARDRONIS Locate Compact Fully SAPIENT Compliant

Monday, November 6th, 2023

Rohde & Schwarz successfully prove ARDRONIS Locate Compact fully compliant with new SAPIENT standard protocol for use in counter UAS missions, as part of NATO Technical Interoperability Exercise.

Munich, October 2023 — Rohde & Schwarz has proven its new ARDRONIS Locate Compact system for use in counter unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) missions. Integrated through the new SAPIENT standard protocol and tested at the NATO Technical Interoperability Exercise (TIE) event at Vredepeel in the Netherlands, the solution automatically detects and identifies drones based on their broadband video radio signals.

The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) organized exercise C-UAS TIE 23 that brought together civilian and military specialists, as well as over 60 industry participants. This exercise tested counter-drone technologies to make sure different systems could communicate and work together instantly.

Rohde & Schwarz is committed to supporting the standardization system of NATO and is SAPIENT compliant. The company is working to simplify the integration of its system into larger systems. The SAPIENT protocol allows data from sensors, effectors, and cyber to be converted into a common language and shared across networks supporting the CUAV mission.

Anne Stephan, Vice President Critical Infrastructure & Network, Rohde & Schwarz, said, “We are excited to launch ARDRONIS Locate Compact in November. We are committed to advancing and testing the SAPIENT interface and supporting the standardization system of NATO. Our goal is to simplify the integration of our system into larger systems.”

ARDRONIS Locate Compact from Rohde & Schwarz is designed to be cost-effective and can be used to monitor large areas that require a greater number of antennas and radio direction finders. It is suitable for fixed installations such as airports, large industrial or military facilities, as well as for semi-transportable systems that can be set up and operated by a single person for short-term area surveillance, such as protecting political VIPs during public appearances or military positions.

Study from Ventus Illustrates Evidence and Risk of Toxic Respiratory Exposure from Firearm Combustion and Weapons Training

Sunday, November 5th, 2023

An independent analysis of filters recovered from Ventus’ TR2 Tactical Respirator, worn during various weapons training exercises, revealed the presence of 32 different heavy metals and compounds after just a single day of use

Toronto, Ontario, Nov. 02, 2023 — Ventus Respiratory Technologies, a company pioneering a new standard of respiratory protection for law enforcement, the armed forces, and first responders, has conducted a comprehensive study to illustrate the filtration efficacy of its TR2 Tactical Respirator, and to provide quantitative evidence of airborne hazards in weapons training environments.

“The TR2  is unique in the market, being the only CE-certified respirator that is purpose-built for military and law enforcement personnel, to protect them from toxic exposure,” said Arjun Grewal, CEO of Ventus, who previously spent 20 years with the Canadian Armed Forces. “Chronic exposure to particulates such as those produced by combustion has been shown to pose a significant health risk.”

“Particulate” refers to a type of air pollution consisting of a complex mixture of tiny solid particles and liquid droplets in the air. The TR2 has demonstrated its ability to filter out ?99% of solid airborne particulates down to 0.06?m and 97% of oil-based particles down to 0.3?m.

About The Study:

The study consisted of weapons training exercises with participants wearing Ventus’ TR2. These took place in multiple live training scenarios often experienced by Special Forces and SWAT teams. This included indoor firing ranges, outdoor firing ranges, and close-quarter battle (CQB) shoot houses.

Following this, the respirator filters were removed and analyzed by an independent lab to learn the level and volume of airborne contamination present. “The TR2 protects the wearer’s airway and respiratory system, our filter is a critical layer of protection between the toxic air present in these environments and the body. The findings were surprising.”

Results:

An average of 32 different compounds including heavy metals and known carcinogens were identified in all TR2 filters including aluminum, antimony, bismuth, copper, iron, lead, potassium, sodium, strontium, and uranium, with levels consistently exceeding daily exposure thresholds for each chemical, as established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Access the full report here

“These concentrations of heavy metals and carcinogenic compounds are very concerning, particularly considering that the filters examined were worn for a single day only, whereas real-world users typically participate in similar activities 10-15 times per month,” added Grewal. “Respiratory protection has lagged, or simply been non-existent, compared to eye and ear protection requirements for these activities for far too long. The rate of respiratory illness in military personnel is roughly three times greater than for the average population. This study is critical to educate users and leadership of the clear and present risks.”

Short-term exposure to these and other particulate matter can cause airway restriction, reduced oxygenation, slower cognition, diminished performance, and acute respiratory illness. Longer-term exposure to high particulate loads can lead to chronic illness and disability.

Ventus is backed by ONE9 and Kensington Capital. ONE9 is Canada’s first and only venture capital fund and accelerator focused purely on national security and critical infrastructure technologies.

Antimatter Industries x Tactical Development – The Wing

Friday, November 3rd, 2023

Antimatter Industries and Tactical Development are proud to release The WingTM—a spring-loaded thumb ledge that collapses into many light compatible holsters. The two variations replace the lug of a Surefire X300/X400 (cross-bolt version only) or a Streamlight TLR7 Sub.

The why: For years, competition shooters have been using thumb ledges to control muzzle climb. This keeps your gun flatter and groups tighter, enabling you to shoot faster because your red dot doesn’t come off target during recoil.

This raises the question: Why wouldn’t everyone want those perks in an actual gunfight when lives are on the line?

The problem: Large aftermarket ledges require special competition holsters. The military and law enforcement are usually only allowed to use approved or issued lvl. 2-3 holsters. To get around this, people have stippled or cut into the pistol frame itself. That’s cool, but it doesn’t offer a lot of surface area; most of your thumb is hanging off and you don’t get the same control as a wide ledge.

The solution: The patent pending WingTM automatically folds out when you draw your pistol, resulting in one of the largest thumb ledges out there to control muzzle climb. When you reholster it, the Wing simply collapses back against the slide of the gun. The Wing adds only 1.5mm to the width to the gun, allowing you to use it with your duty/military issued Safariland holsters. It can also fit in many other kydex OWB holsters made for Surefire x300 lights.

Compatibility: The Wing is compatible with any Sig 320 and military’s M17/M18 when using a Surefire X300 pic rail light. (The one with the flathead bolt; not the quick release version.) Don’t worry, we’re already making the glock variant for Gen 3-5 pistols.

We came out with the Carry Wing for (Sig 365, hellcat, Glock 48 and G43x) because compact guns usually have more felt recoil due to their size. We can personally shoot the 365 with a Wing better than the legion x5 without one. It’s not magic; it’s just physics.

Advantage: The Wing makes a big difference on non-compensated pistols. Unfortunately, most agencies and military regs still prevent you from running threaded barrels with comps. In addition, the Wing kicks ass on 10mm pistols. It gives you control and faster follow up shots with a more devastating round.

Installation: Well, it’s pretty damn fast. You simply remove the Wing from the Surefire x300 or a Streamlight TLR-7 sub and replace it with the Wing’s lug.

American made: The Wing is designed and machined right here out of 7075 aluminum. Watch the torture test video on our website.
