NDIA, SOCOM to host virtual SOFIC in May

ARLINGTON, VA –The National Defense Industrial Association and U.S. Special Operations Command will host a virtual Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (vSOFIC) online, May 11-15, they announce today.

After canceling this year’s annual SOFIC event in Tampa, Florida, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, NDIA and SOCOM developed a new online platform to enable special operations professionals and industry partners to learn, network and collaborate on the initiatives and capabilities needed in the future.

“We understand the importance of the collaboration among industry, the government and academia to solve those most difficult challenges our warfighters face,” said Hawk Carlisle, NDIA’s president and CEO. “We look forward to bringing together, virtually, special operations throughout the country for this significant event that continues our collaboration with SOCOM.”

The virtual conference will include remarks, presentations and Q&A sessions with SOCOM leaders and acquisition, science, technology and logistics professionals. This year’s conference theme is “Expanding the Competitive Space.”

“During this time, having an opportunity to explain our capability needs and give industry leaders a chance to tell us what they have to offer may be more important than ever,” said SOCOM Acquisition Executive Jim Smith. “We’re especially excited that an online format will not only meet the needs of our current, valued industry partners but may also attract new teammates from the digital and cyber tech base.”

SOCOM has opportunities for industry innovation in many areas, including next-generation intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, next-generation mobility, precision fires and effects, hyper-enabling the operator, and biotechnologies. Additionally, innovation opportunities in data and networks exist for emerging requirements in software, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics in web-based information operations, mission command systems and more.

SOCOM also has opportunities to collaborate in a new Digital Engineering Lab unveiled in September 2019. The lab facilitates development, testing and employment of new technical approaches to modernizing warfighting decision-making.

For additional information on the virtual conference and registration instructions, visit www.vSOFIC.org. Registration is required for all vSOFIC participants.

Expedition Grade, Made in USA, Utility, Cargo Pant

Prometheus Design Werx’s best selling Odyssey Cargo Pant returns this Spring 2020 with their tried and true, field ready NYCO ripstop fabric newly updated with stretch for improved mobility and additional comfort. These utility field pants feature purpose driven design at its core with carefully considered pockets for today’s EDC, and functional features to excel during extended use in the field. The PDW Odyssey Cargo Pant uses industrial grade sewing construction, double reinforced seat, double knees with pad inserts and extra bar-tacks throughout. A field favorite with overlanders, field professionals, and explorers worldwide. Expertly built in the USA.

The Design and R&D Team at PDW states:

“The classic cargo style pant is a long running, legacy design area for our Founder and Chief Designer. It is a style that started over 70 years ago and born from necessity to address the field needs of Allied airborne troopers. The Odyssey Cargo Pant for PDW is a pure purpose driven design for those who spent a lot of their time in the field. They are intended to perform in a wide variety of environments and conditions, carry extra personal kit, and be as capable as their user. We’ve been working on updating our tried and true NYCO ripstop the last couple of years and were able to come up with just the right percentage of stretch fibers to add to our NYCO blend and enhance this very versatile fabric. This is the best ripstop fabric we could custom mill to use in our pants. Like all of our goods, we constantly take a hard look each season at areas of improvement and arrive at an outcome that is the best it can be per iteration. Details make the design. The Odyssey Pant is still stitched right here in the USA using a skilled labor force and industrial work wear grade construction for an unparalleled quality of make.”

The Odyssey Cargo Pant NYCO+ is available in Transitional Field Green, Universal Field Gray, and All Terrain Brown.

The Odyssey Cargo Pant NYCO+ will be available for purchase on Wednesday, April 8th, 2020 at 12:00pm PT via their website, prometheusdesignwerx.com.

Arc’teryx LEAF Special Operations Care Fund Support

Monday, April 6th, 2020

NORTH VANCOUVER, Canada, April 6, 2020

In late February of 2020, Arc’teryx LEAF teamed up with SOC-F to deliver an ice climbing experience to a group of Veterans from the US Special Operations community.

“For over 15 years, we have been making apparel and gear for the most demanding military and law enforcement end-users on the planet, it was time for us to find a way to give back”, said Stephen Church, LEAF Business Unit Director. “We were inspired by the exceptional work done by SOC-F who has been a driving force in getting help to families in need. We reached out and asked them what we could do together.”

This led to the creation of SOC-F/Arc’teryx LEAF Ice Climbing Experience. The event took place in Bozeman, Montana, where the group was hosted by the Station Foundation. Their purpose is to help navigate the complex terrain of reintegration into civilian life.

Arc’teryx LEAF is planning to expand upon this concept in different regions of the world, with organizations who support Veterans. The objective is to bring the outdoors to those who stand to benefit from it the most.

Monday, April 6th, 2020

Isolation facilities will help support Ontario hospital with COVID-19 assessments

Ottawa, Ontario–(Newsfile Corp. – April 2, 2020) – In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rampart International, one of BLU-MED‘s Canadian distributors, has supplied Southlake Regional Health Centre with two BLU-MED Negative Pressure Isolation Facilities to increase their capacity to treat more patients.

BLU-MED Negative Pressure Isolation Facilities

“The isolation facilities we have procured from Rampart will allow us to provide more care for patients,” said Stephen Trafford, manager of emergency and disaster preparedness, Southlake Regional Health Centre. “This will allow us to rapidly increase our negative pressure bed capacity not just in response to this pandemic, but any future potential health emergencies.”

Each BLU-MED Negative Pressure Isolation Facility is capable of housing up to 10 patients within an environment that meets the US Centers for Disease Control guidelines on Airborne Infectious Disease prevention protocols. The goal is to reduce the exposure of hospital staff and patients, prepare for the potential influx of infected patients, and establish patient isolation facilities that prevent the spread of the COVID-19 while effectively treating those infected.

“Rampart is proud to ensure that Canada’s frontline health care workers and first responders have the equipment they need to succeed,” said Mike Klein, president of Rampart International Corp. “Systems such as this have the potential to make a significant difference in the fight against COVID-19.”

The facilities are expected to be delivered and operational by early April 2020 at Southlake Regional Healthcare in Newmarket, ON.

Milrem Robotics to Deliver UGVs to UK Defence

Sunday, April 5th, 2020

Milrem Robotics is to deliver two unmanned ground vehicles to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) of the United Kingdom.

DSTL whose purpose is to maximise the impact of science and technology for the defence and security of the UK, is procuring the unmanned vehicles to explore the capabilities and limitations of these autonomous systems in areas such as mobility, vulnerabilities and safety.

Milrem Robotics will supply the vehicles to DSTL in partnership with leading defence technology company, QinetiQ, who will integrate autonomous functions to the vehicles and arrange transfer to the end user.

In cooperation with QinetiQ, Milrem Robotics is participating in two UK large-scale robotics programs – JTARR (Joint Tactical Autonomous Resupply and Replenishment) and RPV (Robotic Platoon Vehicle).

“The United Kingdom has a clear view on the importance of robotics on the battlefield and its impact on defence capabilities. This is illustrated by the two large-scale robotics programs in which Milrem Robotics is currently participating in the UK,” said Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics.

DSTL follows similar organizations in the Netherlands, Norway and Germany who have also opted for the THeMIS platform. For example, the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support has acquired one platform for similar testing and evaluation by the German armed forces.

In addition, the THeMIS UGV has been delivered to France, US and Indonesia in logistics configuration intended to provide combat support and carry supplies with an option to integrate additional kinetic or non-kinetic payloads.
