Comp-Tac Top Holster for IDPA Survey 8 Years In a Row

Thursday, March 12th, 2020

HOUSTON, March 10, 2020 – The International Defensive Pistol Association recently released the results of its 2019 IDPA Equipment Survey, with Comp-Tac Victory Gear® taking the top spot in several categories, including top competition holster manufacturer.

For the last eight years running, Comp-Tac® has proven the most popular competition holster brand among IDPA championship shooters. This year, the company also garnered the top spot for everyday carry holster brand, EDC magazine pouches, the second spot for magazine pouch company, the fourth spot for belt manufacturer and the second spot for concealment garment manufacturer through Armadillo Concealment, a division of Comp-Tac.

The IDPA membership, which numbers more than 22,000, has put Comp-Tac in the top spot 12 times in the annual survey since 2004.  Comp-Tac was also the most popular EDC holster six times, which accounts for every time the EDC category was surveyed. The brand has never been surveyed lower than the second spot for competition holster since 2004.

“We’re always immensely grateful for our persistent popularity within the shooting community,” said Randi Rogers, Comp-Tac director of brand management. “Many of us at Comp-Tac are shooters making gear for shooters. Our roots lay in the competitive and concealed carry communities, and we’re proud to be recognized and receive their continued support,” added Rogers, who is a seven-time IDPA national champion, eight-time IDPA indoor national champion and two-time IDPA back-up gun national champion.

Comp-Tac started in 2001 to address the lackluster offerings of concealable holsters on the market. Their holsters soon gained popularity in the concealed carry and competition holster markets, while also becoming a trusted source for off-duty LE and undercover military members overseas. Comp-Tac joined the High Speed Gear® family in mid 2018 to compliment the brand’s already diverse offerings.

Mako Medical has been chosen to represent North Carolina for the Employer Support Freedom Award from the Secretary of Defense

DALLAS, March 6, 2020 (Newswire.com) – Mako Medical was selected to represent North Carolina for the small business category for the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, and will now go national selection board. The Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Each year, Guard and Reserve employees, or a family member acting on their behalf, have the opportunity to nominate their employer for the Employer Support Freedom Award. The ESGR State Committees review nominations and submit recommendations to advance to the next round in each of these three categories, small employer, large employer, and public sector. A national selection board comprised of senior Department of Defense’s officials, business leaders, and prior award winners select up to 15 employers’ nationwide to receive the Secretary’s prestigious award.

“From the beginning, we made it a priority to create a workplace that cultivates and celebrates those who continue to serve,” said Adam Price Executive and Director of Logistics for Mako Medical. Adam is also Major in the United States Army Reserves, a combat veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and former active duty logistics officer. “As a brother to a service member, I understand the importance of actively supporting our Reservists and Guardsman so they can focus on their military training as needed and required,” said Chad Price, CEO of Mako Medical.

In 2017 Mako Medical brought back 140 Soldiers to Louisiana to spend time with their families before they deployed. “Deployments are challenging on the entire family, not just the Soldier,” said Adam Price, who deployed to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in 2012-2013. “Having one last moment with your family creates a memory that can be used to help you get through a tough time when you are away for so long.” Finding ways to help those that are continuing to serve is something Mako Medical is committed to doing. Mako Medical pays its service members while they are attending annual training, which is an annual two-week obligation for Reservists and Guardsman. Also, service members who have an extended drill weekend that includes a Friday and or Monday are given PTO days for those days missed.

Mako Medical also fosters a small team structure that is very familiar to military structured teams. In the Logistics division, each employee is placed on a team of six individuals. “Having small teams allows us to foster deep relationships, and really have each other’s backs,” explained Adam Price when talking about the team dynamic. “One of the greatest things the Army provides is a support structure of team, squad, platoon and a battle buddy system. We replicate this same model at Mako Medical,” said Adam Price.

Design Your Own Everyday Carry Knife With Gerber Custom

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

PORTLAND, OREGON (March 09, 2020) – GERBER, an industry-leading manufacturer of knives and multi-tools, today launched a new customization program featuring several of the brand’s best-selling knives. Made in Portland, Ore., the Fastball, StrongArm, Sharkbelly and US-1 will be among the first knives customers can design using a robust library of lasermarks, handle materials, patterns and blade shapes.

“At Gerber, we know better than anyone that pocket knives are personal. We carry them everyday, and both craftsmanship and utility are paramount. Gerber Custom empowers users to take part in the creation process, pairing the precise engineering and reliable quality of our bestselling knives with a unique aesthetic,” said Todd Bischoff, creative director at Gerber.

Knife makers curate their experience by choosing between customization and personalization. Customization offers an infinite combination of handle materials, colors, patterns and blade shapes with hundreds of illustrations, like landscapes, military insignias, flora and fauna, and more. Personalization offers visitors lasermarked illustration and personal text in a variety of fonts.

While the options for customization are endless, the price reflects Gerber’s commitment to providing premium, highly functional tools at an honest value. All of Gerber’s customized and personalized knives are made, assembled, and lasermarked at their headquarters in Portland.

“A person’s daily carry knife is nearly part of their identity – it says something about them,” said Karrson Koivisto, product manager for knives and cutting tools at Gerber. “A knife’s design and functionality are foundational, but layering on the capacity to select how every single component looks takes great products to the next level. That’s what Gerber Custom is about—helping consumers step up their daily carry in a way that authentically suits them.”

Gerber Custom, newly opened in March, can be found at www.gerbergear.com/custom. To date, the Fastball is available for customization and the StrongArm, Sharkbelly, and US-1 are available to personalize, with more products scheduled for later this year.

Steinel Ammunition Revives a Classic Military Round, the 6.5 x 52mm Carcano

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

Unlike current factory loaded 6.5 Carcano ammunition, Steinel’s load respects the original concept, thus providing outstanding accuracy as in its original format in 1891.

Twinsburg, Ohio (February 2020) – Steinel Ammunition, a manufacturer of premium vintage military, hunting, and self-defense ammunition, tackles another milsurp round, bringing back its original accuracy performance: the 6.5 x 52mm Carcano.

The 6.5x52mm Carcano cartridge has been around since 1891, and was only phased out of military service in the 1970s. Carcano rifles were strong actions, and most used gain-twist rifling to extend barrel life and improve accuracy. Heavy for the caliber projectiles, it retained useful energy levels despite the round nose form. The original lead core bullets had poor terminal performance, so later designs filled the bullet nose with less dense aluminum to promote tumbling on impact. Nearly 3 million Carcano rifles were built, and many of them sold in the US as surplus.

Unfortunately, until recently the ammunition supply did not keep up with demand. Corrosive World War II vintage or older surplus ammunition is unavailable, and what can be found should not be shot due to the uncertainties surrounding the storage conditions. A relatively affordable PPU load is available but offers very poor accuracy due to the severely undersized bullets used in all observed samples, resulting in unstabilized projectiles right from the muzzle.

Fortunately, an excellent target load is now available from Steinel Ammunition. The new cartridges use soft point expanding bullets that provide excellent terminal effect and accuracy while promoting reliable feeding. Loaded to 1,770 fps (from 17.5in barrels), this load offers a significantly lighter recoil than the original, while retaining good terminal performance at distances reasonable with iron sights. At short range, the bullet expands to about 0.516-inch with 39-inch penetration of synthetic gel, sufficient for a double-shoulder shot on a deer. This ammunition is non-corrosive and made to much higher quality and more consistent specifications than either military surplus or other commercial loadings.

Steinel Ammunition’s new vintage military round, the 6.5×52 Carcano is available online for $31.99 a 20-rd. box.

Introducing the WESN Henry

Tuesday, March 10th, 2020

With a 2.35” blade and a 3” handle, the WESN Henry is a modern take on the classic slip-joint pocket knife. With Titanium scales and Cherrywood inlays, the Henry is a lightweight, yet perfectly balanced knife for any task at hand. Utilizing Swedish steel, we are paying tribute to the inspiration behind both our design and overall quality of the Henry. Our blade steel of choice: Sandvik 14C28N has passed the test of time, and proven to be one of Swedens top grade knife steels. With over 150 years of experience, Sandvik has mastered the processes of manufacturing knife steel that we can trust.

Inspired by a traditional slip-joint design from the late 1800s found in northern Sweden, the Henry carries characteristics that have been used for over 150 years. We are honored to name the knife after one of the most inspirational men both personally in my life and many others. A man that has inspired the need for an everyday pocket knife that solves both functional needs yet displays the beauty of pure craftsmanship.

The Henry is a knife to be passed down from generation to generation, as a token to remember the years behind its use and the craftsmanship that will carry on to represent the integrity behind a well-designed product.
