Congress Clears 2020 National Defense Authorization Act that Leverages Model Maintenance Code to Improve Conditions in Military Housing

Thursday, December 26th, 2019

The U.S. Department of Defense separately updated its building standards to the most recent international building codes

Washington, D.C. – Earlier today, the Senate approved the House-passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2020, clearing the legislation for the President’s expected signature. The measure,  which authorizes appropriations for the upcoming year and sets forth policies for U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) programs, requires that privatized military housing meet or exceed requirements set by a nationally recognized, consensus-based, model property maintenance code, such as the International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC), by February 1, 2021.

The IPMC, developed by the International Code Council, regulates the minimum maintenance requirements for existing buildings and establishes minimum standards for basic equipment, light, ventilation, heating, sanitation and fire safety. It is used or adopted in 40 states and the District of Columbia. The maintenance code requirement is part of a broader effort within the NDAA to improve the oversight, accountability, management, and, most importantly, quality of privatized military housing following several reports detailing substandard conditions.

Separately, DOD recently updated its building code, the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), to use the 2018 International Building Code, 2018 International Existing Building Code and 2018 International Plumbing Code. The UFC had previously required using the 2015 versions of these codes. The UFC establishes  common requirements for DOD construction activities, and addresses safety, functionality and durability.

“Setting maintenance requirements for military housing will help ensure our service members and their families are afforded access to the well-built, well-maintained, housing they deserve,” said Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, CBO. “The Code Council very much appreciates the leadership of the House and Senate Armed Services Committees in addressing these issues. By working to bring uniformity in building standards to our military housing and other Department of Defense facilities, we are helping to contribute toward the safety of our servicemen and women.”

US Manufacture of AUDS (Anti-UAV Defense System) Experiences Rapid Growth in Counter Drone Market

Centennial Colorado — Liteye Systems, Inc. the US leader in Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems, announced the opening of a new 55,000 square foot facility in Highfield Business Park, near Centennial Airport, CO to accommodate rapid growth and support increasing manufacturing demands.

In addition to the corporate headquarters in Centennial, CO and UK office, the new facility will bring the company’s office and manufacturing footprint to over 80,000 square feet and supports the company’s growth strategy.  Liteye added 21 jobs in 2019 and plans an additional 20 jobs next year.

Liteye, founded by Kenneth Geyer and Tom Scott in January of 2000, is now ranked as one of the leading privately held companies in Colorado. Liteye has over $70M in counter drone contracts with the US DoD and is Combat Proven with over 1000 defeats against enemy drones by ISIS, Taliban and others.

“When Liteye started we designed and manufactured small products, such as Head Mounted Displays and covert thermal cameras,” stated Kenneth Geyer, CEO. “As the company grew and evolved into the counter unmanned systems market, the need for square footage and taller ceilings to house multiple vehicles, trailers and shipping containers on a production line to meet customer demands became necessary.”

“Like most companies, in the beginning we focused mainly on the engineering portion, subcontracting the manufacturing and assembly of our products outside the company. As our military business grew, we brought both those capabilities inside the company to meet MIL-STD requirements and fast delivery times.” Said Thomas Scott, CTO “It started with just one CNC machine and has been growing ever since, where today we have a state-of-the-art machine shop and full production floor.”

New Instructional Video from Panteao with New Instructor Make Ready with Jamey Caldwell: Intro to Night Vision

Friday, December 20th, 2019

Columbia, SC, December 20, 2019 – Panteao announces the release of a new video title with instructor Jamey Caldwell. Jamey recently joined Panteao’s cadre of instructors.  Jamey spent more than 21 years in the United States Army, serving his entire career in Special Operations. He served 7 years with the 75th Ranger Regiment then spent the following 14 years in a Special Missions Unit that maintained a high operational tempo in Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and numerous other countries in the world. He has deployed to combat 14 times and has conducted well over 500 missions. Jamey has been awarded three medals for valorous actions in combat while under direct fire from the enemy.

“Panteao is very fortunate with being able to work with Jamey Caldwell as one of our new instructors,” said Fernando Coelho, President/CEO of Panteao Productions. Fernando continued, “Jamey will be providing valuable content to our viewers that is backed by years of real-world experience.”

Jamey Caldwell said, “After spending so many years in a Tier 1 unit that was constantly engaged in combat I took for granted how much we used Night Vision, laser’s, thermals, and all the equipment that goes with them. It wasn’t until I retired that I learned how fortunate I was to have this knowledge. I felt it was important to share my experience and knowledge with those that want to learn more. Whether it’s for home protection or a law enforcement officer looking to better equip themselves to protect us on the home front. I am glad to share this information and hope that you learn a little something from it.”

The first video to be introduced with Jamey is Intro to Night Vision. Understanding night vision and the gear associated with it is imperative for successful operations in limited visibility. Educating yourself can be a daunting task, till now. In Intro to Night Vision, Jamey Caldwell presents night vision gear and use in a clear and concise manner. He reviews the history of night vision, light spectrum, the image intensifier tube, figure of merit, white versus green phosphor tubes, head mounted systems, weapon mounted systems, lasers, helmets, IR marking devices, digital night vision systems and more.

Panteao greatly appreciates the support of the sponsors that help make this video happen: Black Rifle Coffee, CORE Survival, Streak Ammo, Oakley, Nitecore, Princeton Tec, Emerging Tactical Solutions, Trijicon, Surefire, and TSE Recon

Make Ready with Jamey Caldwell: Intro to Night Vision is now available streaming for Panteao subscribers.
