Warrior Expo East – Salewa

Friday, July 13th, 2012

I’ve got to start by telling you that I have been wearing Salewa footwear for about 6 months now. I love them.

Salewa is a 75 year old Italian mountaineering brand that just launched a footwear brand about 5 years ago and began bringing their products to the US about two-and-a-half years ago. This isn’t a life-style brand but rather a technical mountaineering brand. For instance, they featuring to toe lacing on every model. And, all boots feature sticky rubber rands. Finally, regardless of shoe or boot, they all feature a climbing edge along the forefoot.

As Salewa incorporates an anatomical European last, the fit can be a little narrow for some Americans. However, they include a feature that allows a more custom fit with their two-piece multi-fit footbed.

The Alp Trainer has been very popular with military and incorporates a Kevlar overlay along the lower portion of the upper. It’s very affordable at $199.

The Mountain Trainer features a little wider fit and a more rigid micro porous mid sole which makes it great for a carrying a heavy pack day in and day out. Being a little beefier, it goes for $219.

To cap it off, Salewa offers a 100% blister free guarantee.

Warrior Expo East – Under Armour

Friday, July 13th, 2012

Coming late this month, are a new pair of men’s pants (Breach) that integrate DWR at the fiber level rather than a treatment. As you can see, water beads up on the surface and due to the inherent qualities of the Durable Water Repellant it isn’t going to wash or wear out.

Also, look out Spring 13 for a new women’s line.

Finally, be ready to get your socks knocked off as Under Armour expands from three tactical footwear styles to 11 in January. One of the major draws will be the integration of their Spine technology into the tactical line.

Warrior Expo East – FirstSpear

Thursday, July 12th, 2012

Two new products for FirstSpear include the Tactical Hand-Warmer and M4 3 Mag Ranger Shingle.

20120712-151316.jpg

The Tactical Hand-Warmer can be attached directly to your armor, hanging below your pouches or using its own simple waist belt. It has pockets for chemical handwarmers and can be cinched tight so that it takes up less space.

The M4 3 Mag Ranger Shingle sits closer to the vest than any other shingle I’ve seen. Additionally, it’s lined with high friction materials in order to ensure magazine retention.
