Bollé Launches First Ever Augmented Reality Sunglass Experience For Smartphones

June 23rd, 2020

New AR Technology Allows Users to Experience Bollé Phantom lenses on their Smartphone and Purchase From a Participating Retailer.

Lyon, France, (JUNE 23, 2020) – Bollé, maker of the most innovative lenses in the world is forever changing the way people try and buy sunglasses. With the introduction of an exclusive Augmented Reality Sunglass experience, shoppers can now try-out Bollé’s flagship Phantom lens technology without ever having to physically touch the glasses.

Partnering with QReal and M7 Innovations, Bollé’s AR experience is a first for the sunglass industry. Within Instagram, the demonstration invites users to try out Bollé’s Phantom lens through one of the brand’s iconic models – the Chronoshield. After seeing the glasses on their face, users simply flip their camera from selfie-view to front-facing and Phantom lenses are superimposed on their actual view. Users then introduce sunglass effects like high contrast, anti-fog, and light-adaptive into their real surroundings to see Phantom lenses in action. Once users select a lens that suits their style and needs, they can search for a retailer that carries Bollé.

“AR is routinely used for try-on and certainly enhances the buying experience. But AR for try-out, this is a first,” said Louis Cisti, Vice President of Global Marketing for Bollé Brands. “In the new normal of retail, Bollé recognizes that safety is now the most important thing. Consumers demand shopping encounters that minimize physical interaction. However, when it comes to buying premium sunglasses, they still have high expectations and expect to see tangible benefits. Bollé’s AR try-out does all that heavy lifting. Shoppers get to see perceivable performance benefits before making a purchase.” Cisti continued.

Using AR, users will experience several unique Bollé lens features that demonstrate Phantom’s superiority for spring skiing, cycling, running and more:

• Light Adaptive Technology: the user is presented with a slider that allows them to change their exposure, making the scene brighter or darker. They watch Phantom’s molecular photochromic filter adapt to changes in ambient light.

• Platinum Anti-Fog Treatment: The user’s view begins to fog up, simulating the fogging that occurs from sweat while riding, hiking, or spring skiing. Fog condenses outside the glasses, but the view through the sunglasses remains crystal clear, mimicking the real-world performance Phantom Lenses in a perspiring situation.

• High Contrast: The scene outside the glasses remains natural, but the user is able to experience improved color and depth perception as they look through the Phantom lenses.

For the Try On part of the experience users will be able to see how they look in the Bollé Chronoshield, a new take on an original style from the 1980s. The Chronoshield offers an extra wide field of view, ideal for visual comfort and protection against wind or debris. Venting ensures the lenses never fog up and the adjustable Thermogrip nose-pads and temple tips gives a custom fit while making sure they stay in place.

To try-out Phantom Lenses using this augmented reality experience, users can either click on a QR code that will be included in Bollé marketing materials or may visit this link using their: Merged Single Lens Experience

Safariland Introduces FoxFury Integrated Light / Handle for its Patented X Series Ballistic Shields

June 23rd, 2020

Features two handle options: horizontal or the exclusive 3-position handle co-developed by Safariland

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The Safariland Group (“Safariland”), a leading global provider of safety and survivability products designed for the public safety, military, professional and outdoor markets, today introduced its next generation Safariland® PROTECH® X Series ballistic shields featuring the FoxFury® Taker B70 integrated shield light and handle. The X Series lightweight shield with its integrated lens cap combined with the feature-laden light / handle design provides a clean look and further reduces the overall weight. Offered in two handle styles, Safariland partnered with FoxFury®, an industry leader in shield lighting, to develop the 3-position integrated handle design offered exclusively in the Safariland brand of shields.

“We know that law enforcement’s needs continue to evolve, so we are continuously sourcing and developing products in or to offer the most relevant products for today’s demands,” said Mark Cardey, manager of engineering and Hard Armor R&D for Safariland. “We’ve been able to do just that with the new X Series shields that combine new technology in light attachment, with an exclusive handle feature all in a durable, yet lightweight product.”

The X Series models with the FoxFury Taker B70 Integrated light and handle feature a top-of-the line LED light with the functionality merged into the handle design. The cord-free light is bolted to the shield through the handle and is powered by six CR123 batteries which are incorporated into the handle, eliminating the need for battery packs and loose, external wiring typically seen on ballistic shield lights. Two handle options are offered: the standard horizontal handle, or a 3-position handle design co-developed by Safariland in partnership with FoxFury. The exclusive 3-position handle is ambidextrous and features ergonomically designed pressure switches which are easily activated by the thumb.

The powerful light features two settings: ON/OFF setting or a Tactical setting with three modes, momentary, continuous or Turbo-Strobe™. The light also features a Kill/Deactivation Switch so the light cannot be accidently activated. The light is bolted to the shield through the handle and features separate circuitry on each of its two rows of LEDs so that if one row is damaged the operator can still maintain visibility. The powerful and durable lighting platform is engineered from a molded nylon 66 blend that is fire and impact resistant, and waterproof.

Safariland’s X Series type IIIA ballistic shields made with Honeywell Spectra Shield® material feature a patented process which molds the lens cap into the ballistic composition of the shield at the time of pressing. This results in a lens cap design of the same ballistic material as the rest of the shield. This streamlined design eliminates points of weakness where the shield and components meet – drill holes and seam lines. The seamless molded viewport in this boltless design allows for a shield that can be 20 percent lighter without sacrificing protection and ensuring ballistic integrity.

The Safariland PROTECH X Series ballistic shield with integrated light and handle and is available in all X Series models at MSRPs ranging from $2,980 – $3,490. Available to order now.

Mystery Ranch – Blaze Orange STICK-IT

June 23rd, 2020

I’ve always liked the Mystery Ranch STICK-IT but I just recently found out they make it in Blaze Orange.

Blaze is a great color for this pack accessory if you are a hunter, training with a ruck in high traffic areas, or for organizations conducting A&S activities as well as training pipelines. Anywhere you want high visibility.

Made from 500D Cordura, the STICK-IT is an add-on beavertail with contouring pleats to accommodate larger volume items. It attaches to all MR Guide Light Frame styles and most day packs via 1” hardware.

Mystery Ranch is out of stock, but bever fear, I found them at Schnee’s, a fantastic local sporting goods store in Bozeman.
