OWWM 18 – Team Wendy M-216 SKI SAR Helmet Enhancements

November 9th, 2018

With nothing else like it on the market, the Team Wendy M-216 SKI SAR Helmet has become quite popular. But like anything else, users have asked for a few enhancements to the helmet.

First off is the M-216 Counterweight Kit. The unique design is patterned specifically for use with this helmet. It is 1 pound of coated lead with a Grey Cordura skin and attached via some very robust Velcro.

Next is the removable chin cup which converts the under-the-chin sports-style chinstrap to a similar strap found on the Ballistic helmet, offering additional stability when wearing night vision devices. It can be pulled out of the way or removed completely.

These enhancements, along with the Wilcox machined aluminum shroud, are available as part of the M-216 Tactical Ski SAR offering.

2018 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market – The Second Coming

November 9th, 2018

If you’re a regular SSD reader, you’re thinking two things. First, you’re wondering if it was all a dream when you read about the 2018 OR winter market back in January. Next, you’re wondering why the heck there is a OR Show in mid November. Both are really good questions.

There was a winter market held here in Denver back in January, right after SHOT show. The reason there is a second winter market this year is because they are moving the dates in order to line up with actual order taking in the outdoor industry. As you can imagine, it has led to some upheaval in attendance. I’m not really sure what I’m going to see inside the show, but let’s go take a look.

100 Years of Polish Independence and 35 Years of Helikon-Tex

November 9th, 2018

November 11th, 2018 is a special day for Polish people, who celebrate the 100th anniversary of regaining the independence after 123 years of enslavement. This is also the year in which the Helikon-Tex® brand celebrates its 35th anniversary. These two milestones: in both polish history and in the evolution of the polish textile market, are a great opportunity for a huge discount on the producer’s online shop.

100 years of independence

18th November 1918 marks the date of the end of the most tragic world war, which claimed the lives of millions. For many countries it is also a symbolic date of their rebirth. On this day Poland, after 123 years of enslavement imposed by three countries: Prussia, Austria and Russia, regained its independence. Soon the Bolshevik Russia once again tried to take this independence away, but after the polish success in the Warsaw battle in August 1920 it was certain, that Poland will keep its independence.

35 year of Journey to Perfection

In 1983 in Wroclaw a small company was founded. The company that today is one of the key European and world’s garments and tactical equipment producers. The Helikon-Tex® brand is the leading producer of this type of equipment, providing its products to almost every corner of the earth. Constantly upgrading the products and improving the quality, the company is a true example of the #JourneyToPerfection. As a confirmation of the quality of the brand is the fact, that it’s products appeared in the popular tv shows like House of Cards and Halo: Nightfall.

Details

It is very important, that the 11th November price reduction is a one-day event, this is why the time for any decisions is short. It will take effect only on the producer’s online shop: helikon-tex.com. Specific details of the discount will be presented by Helikon-Tex® in the day of the event.

ZEV Technologies Unveil Two New Gen5 Slide Designs

November 9th, 2018

For those looking to upgrade their Gen5 G17 GLOCK® slide, the wait is over. ZEV Technologies, known for creating the market for GLOCK upgrades, has unveiled their two newest slide designs, named the Orion and the Omen. Initially released for G17 Gen5 to meet demand for Gen5 upgrades, both slides will be produced in the popular G19, G17 and G34 sizes for Gen 3, 4 & 5 models in the very near future.

The Omen slide follows the “less is more” philosophy with angled side and top serrations to create a solid grip during slide manipulation. Front windows further reduce slide weight and provide an elegant, yet aggressive look.

The Orion slide features the most futuristic design ZEV has ever produced. Its unique styling provides for an all-over, non-slip grip. The pattern incorporates greater recessed surface areas, enhancing the grip for the un-gloved hand with less pointed edged serrations.

All ZEV slides are manufactured in ZEV’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility from a single billet of 17-4 stainless steel. ZEV’s proprietary design and tight tolerances deliver increased consistency in barrel lockup which improves accuracy. ZEV’s slides also weigh less than factory slides which reduces fatigue and reciprocating weight, allowing for faster follow-up shot placement. These two new slide designs are preconfigured to accept Trijicon RMRs and feature ZEV’s patented threaded post optic cut and include an RMR adapter plate pre-installed.

Key features:

• Machined from 17-4 Stainless steel billet

• Lowered ejection port to aid in ejection of brass

• Match grade, precision milled tolerances that are tighter than factory

• Improved accuracy and grouping performance upon installation

• DLC or PVD coatings offered have a Rockwell hardness rating above that of factory coatings

• Available in Black DLC or Titanium Gray

November 9th, 2018

All new from FS, meet the Brawler FR Shirt.

fs-brawler-img_9116.jpg

Typically most FR garments are stiff and uncomfortable with a blocky fit due to the nature of the fabrics used. The Brawler on the other hand uses 6.5oz Tencate Twill that is durable yet extremely light and comfortable . Material make up is a 65% FR Lenzing / 25% Para-Aramid / 10% Nylon blend that offers excellent Flame Retardant characteristics and assists in defeating or mitigating heat transfer to your skin.

fs-brawler-img_9115.jpg

The Brawler features a zipper front opening, reinforced with webbing sewn buttons. The protective collar can be fastened up around your Neckie or left open, multi positional cuffs, and a security strap to keep the sleeves rolled up. To make the most of hot weather versatility, the Brawler has breathable mesh in the bottom and back of the front pockets, arm pits, and across the entire back yoke.

As with all FS products, there’s a very interesting story behind the name:

In late 1966 through early 1967 US Marines in I Corps Tactical Zone South Vietnam began aggressive patrolling to enforce and establish the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) between the two Vietnam’s. Commanders at the strategic level during that time believed that the war would devolve into a static scenario just as the Korean Conflict had previously. Unit Commanders were encouraged to “patrol aggressively” and “define the DMZ” in favor of South Vietnam. To maintain communications security, radio brevity pro words were assigned to articulate specific combat contacts without divulging great detail. For the Marines of I Corps at that time a “Scrap” was a Small Unit Contact generally Unit on Unit and confined to Small Arms, a “Brawl” was a full engagement involving Combined Arms and Support. The patrolling actions and border battles at that time increasingly contributed to large scale operations that became known collectively as the Battle of Con Thien.

First Spear has elected to the name our heavier weight FR Garment the “Brawler” and our light weigh FR Garment the “Scrap”, initial editions of these will be released in FS Sand which is a close to USMC Coyote as we could get in this base material.

Made in the USA with USA Materials. Available now.

Fibrotex USA Selected to Deliver the U.S. Army’s Next-Generation Camouflage System

November 8th, 2018

• New ULCANS multispectral camouflage system will mask soldiers, vehicles and installations from state-of-the-art electro-optical sensors and radars

• Battle-winning, lightweight technology will be made in the USA to protect soldiers on operations around the world

WASHINGTON, D.C., November, 08 2018: Fibrotex USA Inc has won the contract to supply the U.S. Army’s Next-Generation Ultra-Light Camouflage Netting System (ULCANS), proven to deliver world-leading protection across the electromagnetic spectrum. The contract is a 10-year, indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity award, with a total value of USD480 million. Full-rate production is expected to begin in early 2019.

Fibrotex USA’s new ULCANS contract is the result of a nearly two-year long period of highly competitive testing, trials and data collection conducted by the U.S. Army’s Natick Soldier Systems Center (PM-FSS), which assessed camouflage technologies from major global manufacturers against the Army’s most advanced battlefield surveillance sensors.

Ultra-Light Camouflage Netting System (ULCANS)
The combat-proven technologies underpinning the new ULCANS are based on technology  developed by parent company Fibrotex Technologies Ltd (FTL) over the last two decades, but have been specially modified for the U.S. Department of Defense. ULCANS will be manufactured in a new state-of-the-art vertical manufacturing facility in McCreary County, Kentucky – the only such facility in the U.S. – creating and securing hundreds of new skilled American jobs over the next ten years.

Kentucky Congressman Harold ‘Hal’ Rogers said “I firmly believe we have the best workforce in the country and that their hard work and dedication has earned these new jobs, helping deliver a vital new military contract from McCreary County. I take great pride in knowing that our people are crafting these products to keep our warfighters and allies safe, giving them an edge on the battlefield.”

The new facility is being established next to Outdoor Venture Corporation (OVC), which is a strategic partner to Fibrotex USA, and has been delivering soldier support systems to the U.S. Army for decades.

Mr. Malleron, CEO of Fibrotex USA: “Today more than ever military forces and opposition groups are using night vision sensors and thermal devices against our troops, but by using Fibrotex’ camouflage, concealment and deception solutions we make them undetectable again, allowing them to continue keeping us safe and SAVE LIVES.”

“We have more than 50 years of experience, with thousands of hours in the field and a deep understanding of conventional and asymmetric warfare. The U.S. Army tested our best camouflage solutions and the camouflage repeatedly demonstrated the ability to defeat all sensors known to be operating in the battlefield and throughout the electromagnetic spectrum.”

Fibrotex’ 2D ULCANS technology provides more persistent IR, thermal & counter-radar performance and offers a greater range of capabilities than known before. Fibrotex USA will deliver the material in reversible designs – allowing for the first time a different pattern and capability on each side, enabling soldiers, vehicles and systems to disappear into light/dark woodland, snow/alpine and desert/urban environments, blending into the terrain in all weather conditions, anywhere on the globe.

Fibrotex USA new Vertical manufacturing facility in KY will become the new Camouflage “home” and will provide a one-stop-shop for all solutions provided under one roof.
