Outdoor Research – Congaree Sun Hat

During a recent trip in Western Virginia, I stopped at a local outdoor store where I found the Congaree Sun Hat from Outdoor Research.

I have no idea why they actually named it after a river in South Carolina, but it’s the spitting image of a military “Hat, Sun” or more popularly known, a boonie hat. It’s made from a very soft, 100% cotton ripstop fabric with stitched reinforcements along the brim.

I purchased the Charcoal (Dark Grey) model seen here, but it’s also available in Fatigue which is a Dark Green. The nonmilitary color, combined with the OR logo on the front, made it an instant addition to my spare set of outdoor clothes I keep in my trunk in the event I need to change into something more rugged and less than conspicuous than what I might be wearing at the time. Along with it, I keep a pair of old Salomons, a Simms Fishing Shirt and cargo pants. For instance, if I need to change a tire, or hike to a gas station, or home, for that matter.

Founder Bill Alexander Has Left Alexander Arms

Over the years, I've had several great discussions with inventor Bill Alexander, who developed the 6.5 Grendel, Ulfberft, and numerous other firearms innovations. We wish him well in his new endeavor.

Alexander Arms announces the departure of the Company’s founder and Chief Engineer, Bill Alexander. He is leaving to assume a new position with-in the defense industry.

Alexander Arms thanks Bill for his years of dedicated service and innovation both to the Company and the broader firearms industry and wishes him well as he assumes his new position.

Bill leaves the company well positioned to continue to provide the high level of quality, innovation and customer service that Alexander Arms is known for.

The Last Wooden H&K MP7 Replica Is Now Available For Sale

Late last week, we featured an article on a highly-detailed MP7 wooden replica created by UK-based artist Jenni Edwards. Ms. Edwards contacted us to let us know that it, and a G36 replica, had both sold. However she managed to find one last MP7 replica that she is currently selling on her Etsy page. Jenni Edwards, a UK-based artist, creates highly detailed laser cut and laminated scale models of modern firearms. Her works include 2 models of the SCAR which are currently in the FNH Belgian HQ, as well as MP7 models which were produced for the UK’s Royal Armouries. The latter model is what’s currently available for sale via Edwards’ Etsy shop, ‘Splintersell’. The model is made of maple and birch, and features fully moving parts, including:
