Navy Supply Officer Pleads Guilty to $2.7 Million Fraud Scheme

August 12th, 2018

The Department of Justice announced earlier this week that a Virginia Beach-based naval officer assigned to the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command (EOD) pleaded guilty to his role in a $2.7 million procurement fraud scheme, and to lying on his federal income tax return.

According to court documents, Randolph M. Prince, 45, defrauded the Navy out of over $2.7 million through a procurement fraud scheme in which he, as a member of his Navy unit’s supply staff, steered government contracts to sham companies who were created and run by his friends. Prince had the authority to make purchase requests for military equipment on behalf of his command, and also had the ability to sign for goods when a company delivered them to his unit on the back end.

Prince took advantage of his position to direct purchases to the sham companies, which had been opened for the sole purpose of receiving government contracts from Prince. When a contract landed on the desk of one of these companies, Prince, and others, would generate fraudulent documentation to suggest the company had honored its end of the bargain. With this documentation in hand, the Navy would then pay the company. However, the sham companies never provided the Navy with anything at all. Instead, they distributed the Navy money amongst Prince and his associates.

Prince pleaded guilty to wire fraud and making a false statement in connection with his 2014 tax return. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison when sentenced on December 3. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Although Prince has been brought to justice, it means that EOD operators deployed without critical equipment which the Navy paid for. There are several others involved in this situation. Hopefully, they will be held accountable as well.

What is The Air National Guard Trying To Say?

August 12th, 2018

This Air National Guard photo by TSgt Daniel Ter Haar, was intended to inform Guard members about the upcoming switch from the Airman Battle Uniform in Digital Tiger Stripe to the Army Combat Uniform in the Operational Camouflage Pattern. If a picture tells a thousand words, this one didn’t transmit the intended message.

ARC’One – Where The Magic Happens

August 11th, 2018

I was fortunate enough to visit ARC’One, the Arc’teryx factory in British Columbia. It is amazing to see the different designs being produced by highly skilled teams, considering the number of operations and amount of time that goes into each product.

SPARTANAT PHOTO FILE: CONCAMO Field Test 1

August 11th, 2018

Concamo 1 Aufmacher

“Ein Männlein steht im Walde?” A little man stands in the forest? – What an understatement…. In reality there are 15 volunteers who use different camouflage patterns. Because one thing is clear: the effectiveness of camouflage is decided where it is worn, in the forest, on the field, on the meadow, on the mountain and also in the city. And this is CONCAMO exclusively on SPARTANAT in the first field test.

Contrary to our habit of showing pictures in the only necessary size, we have loaded the photos here as large as possible: Click and then you can study and enjoy the views in detail.

Concamo schwarz-weiPlatte

The patterns that compete here with CONCAMO: ATACS FG, ATACS iX, PenCott GreenZone, PenCott BadLands, Multicam, Multicam Tropic, Flecktarn, 3 Farb Flecktarn and Vegetato.

The pictures were taken in southern Germany, between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb. The pictures are very fresh, they were taken on Friday, August 3, 2018. This CONCAMO field test was perfectly photographed by Ripperkon.

About 20 different areas were photographed, from green deciduous forest to dry quarry.

These are the first eight series, later CONCAMO will also compete in new picture comparisons in other seasons.

Here, the real CONCAMO fabric in a uniform by Leo Köhler is used for the first time. HERE was our “First Look” with original CONCAMO fabric on different surfaces.

“CONCAMO’s weakness is the extreme green season from May to the end of the year. August”, says Matthias Bürgin critically, who developed CONCAMO. “But even in this time of year, CONCAMO is at the forefront. This comparison is repeated identically in autumn and winter, so that there are neutral comparison pictures.” HERE you can read the CONCAMO interview with Matthias Bürgin on SPARTANAT.

If you are still wondering what this is in the photo: A black and white board was put up with each picture, so that the pictures correspond to the scientific standard and manipulations are prevented. It makes clear what the true colors are. The Bundeswehr does the same.

ADAPTIVX Integrated Waistband System

August 10th, 2018

I stopped by Dynamis Alliance the other day and they were going over some marketing materials for their ADAPTIVX line. Right now, it consists of jeans, but the core of the brand is the IWS (Integrated Waistband System).

Granted, I had seen it in the past, but I was focused primarily on its use for concealed carry of a firearm. But then I started to look at the different inserts they had available and consider other uses. It’s then when I realized that they are redefining concealability. Consider that as long as their has been money, there have been pickpockets. The defense has long been some form of money belt. IWS will do that and more, offering options for concealed carry of a wide variety of items, whether they are valuables, electronics or weapons for self defense. I know you’ll groan, but I have to say it, “This is Adaptive.”

From jogging outdoors during a workout – to operating in environments overseas – IWS is an essential part of your ability to blend in and be prepared.

They are working on new styles and additional modules. I look forward to seeing where this goes.
