SureFire Releases Limited-Edition Freedom Alliance 25th Anniversary Flashlight

March 31st, 2015

Fountain Valley, CA — SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high-performance illumination tools, suppressors, and tactical products, is honored to produce the first ever commemorative flashlight celebrating Freedom Alliance’s 25th anniversary. This limited-edition 500 max lumens flashlight features red, silver, and blue coloring in a stars-and-stripes motif; Freedom Alliance’s bald eagle logo; and each flashlight is inscribed with the signature of Freedom Alliance Founder Lt. Colonel Oliver North USMC (retired) and engraved with an individual serial number for collection purposes. A portion of all proceeds from the sales of these collectable flashlights will be donated by SureFire to Freedom Alliance to support the organization’s mission of providing college scholarships to the children of wounded and fallen heroes of America’s Armed Forces.

“SureFire is proud to support Freedom Alliance and what it does for the sons and daughters of these great Americans.” said Jeff Barger, VP of Commercial Sales and Marketing. “Producing this commemorative flashlight is our way of honoring Freedom Alliance’s 25 years of service while also giving back to these children and making sure that their parents’ sacrifices are not forgotten.”

The Freedom Alliance 25th Anniversary flashlight is based on SureFire’s best-selling P2X Fury®. Like the Fury, its virtually indestructible LED produces two useful output levels—a blinding 500-lumen beam and a 15-lumen beam for tasks that don’t require as much light—both of which are controlled by a click-on/off tailcap switch. A precision reflector smoothes and shapes the light at either level into a flawless beam with plenty of reach and more than enough surround light for maintaining good situational awareness. The blue and red coloring on the 25th Anniversary light is both decorative and protective—its Mil-Spec hard anodizing is nearly as hard as diamond.

The SureFire Freedom Alliance 25th Anniversary Commemorative Flashlight has an MSRP of $239 and is available directly from SureFire. These collectible flashlights will begin shipping in May of 2015, but preorders are currently being accepted at surefire.com, and orders placed before April 30th qualify for free shipping. This is a limited-edition item, so once supplies are gone it will no longer be available. For more information visit:

Hyperstealth Develops New Jamaica Defense Force Camo Pattern

March 30th, 2015

Although we haven’t heard from Canada’s Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corporation in awhile, that doesn’t mean they haven’t been busy. The Jamaica Defense Force just unveiled their new Digital Combat Uniforms which sport a camoflauge pattern developed by Hyperstealth. This pattern replaces the British DPM used since 1992.

Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Antony Anderson, said said the new uniform has security features, which will ensure that it does not end up in the hands of criminals and is proprietary meaning it cannot be purchased at a surplus store.

The new uniform will be available in land and maritime variants amd is said to be up to 50% more effective at camouflaging troops than the outgoing DPM, as it blends more easily into both the urban and jungle-type terrain as well as coastal conditions in which the JDF operates.

Sneak Peek – Winkler Small Belt Knife

March 30th, 2015

At last week’s USASOC Sniper Competition we were offered a look at the upcoming Small Belt Knife by ABS Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler.

Seen above with the Belt Knife for size comparison, the new Small Belt Knife was created as a smaller, lower coat alternative to the standard model. Aside from moving to the 4-1/2″ blade, another factor contributing to the lower cost is that the Small Belt Knife has a full tang rather than the more complicated tapered tang found on the original. This also makes the SBK easier to manufacture which will help alleviate the backlog for the Belt Knife. Look for it by May, 2015 from www.winklerknives.com

Sneak Peek – SureFire Closed Tine Flash Hider

March 30th, 2015

Last week, I got a peek at SureFire’s new Closed Tine Flash Hider.

Manufactured at the request of a military customer, the Flash Hider part SFCT-556-1/2X28, works with the SOCOM556 series of suppressors. The “SFCT” in the part number denotes SureFire Closed Tine, the 556 is the caliber and the 1/2×28 is for Mil-Spec 1/2-28 muzzle thread. If it looks somewhat familiar to you, that’s becuase it is. This is an updated version of the same flash hider they have had for years for the legacy suppressor line, part number FH556-212A (NSN: 1005-01-554-3051).

Many will find two advantages to a Closed Tine design. First, the Flash Hider is much less likely to catch on foliage and second, you lose the distinctive “ting” sound produced while firing an open tine muzzle device.

Above, you can see the suppressor alignment lug at the 6 O’clock position. Additionally, the bottom of the flash hider is closed (like an A2 flash hider) which reduces dust signature when firing.
