MATBOCK, LLC of Virginia Beach, VA, Is Awarded $17.3m Phase 4 Contract Modification to Further the Advances from the Previous Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Hybrid Electric Vehicle pOTA Contract

Virginia Beach, VA: MATBOCK, an industry leader in bringing paradigm shifting technologies to the market, is excited to announce the 4th phase and partnership with the U.S. Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) to develop a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle Hybrid Electric Vehicle (JLTV HEV) prototype that will utilize a Heavy Gun Carrier JLTV as the base platform.

On 16 September 2024, MATBOCK started the 4th phase in developing and building the battlefield changing JLTV HEV. MATBOCK was awarded a modification to a previously awarded contract to develop and deliver a JLTV HEV.  The primary purpose of the 3rd phase of this project was to validate or negate the feasibility of prototyping a tactical HEV. The goals of the project were to increase the overall automotive performance and operational range, increase the availability of on-board and off platform power, and increase the vehicle’s overall operational effectiveness by adding additional capabilities.

During the 4TH phase of this contract, MATBOCK will refine and deliver two (2) additional JLTV HEVs to the Army for extensive testing. The design and build phases will require the MATBOCK team to design and deliver technology and parts that have not yet been developed for today’s use in this application.

MATBOCK has used the time between phases to redesign its facility to accommodate the additional personnel and equipment required to deliver battle ready JLTV HEVs.  The MATBOCK Team of professionals dedicated to this project have been brought together from a diverse range of backgrounds to deliver the most innovative technology yet. Leading the charge is an experienced program manager who has delivered complex projects under tight timelines to the DoD.  The team is comprised of former military personnel and EV / automotive professionals bringing a unique blend of overseas experience and industry thought leaders.

Marine Corps to Deploy Counter-Drone Systems Across Units in 2025

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. —

The proliferation of small Unmanned Aircraft Systems presents a significant tactical challenge for modern military forces. As adversaries across the globe increasingly mature and employ low-cost sUAS for reconnaissance, surveillance, and attack missions, it is imperative for the Marine Corps to enhance its capability to counter these threats in a dynamic, contested, and distributed environment.

This year, the Marine Corps will field dismounted counter-sUAS capabilities across the entire MAGTF, which will allow deployed Marines to effectively conduct self-defense against threat sUAS. The Marine Corps will maintain operational superiority and safeguard Marines, maritime forces, and the Joint Force against this evolving threat in diverse operational environments.

The technologies being fielded will allow Marines to detect, track, identify, and defeat adversary sUAS with both kinetic and non-kinetic means.

These systems will be lightweight, easy-to-use, easy-to-train, military occupational specialty agnostic, and to the maximum extent possible use weapon systems organic to individual units. 

Small UAS pose significant risks due to their agility, low signature, and ease of employment. These systems can disrupt operations, compromise security, and destroy critical assets, and result in loss of life. The Marine Corps must therefore prioritize the development and integration of organic CUAS solutions, consisting of both mounted and dismounted capabilities, that provide a comprehensive protection against these emerging threats. Effective countermeasures are essential for safeguarding personnel and critical assets ensuring mission success. 

Current Ground Based Air Defense capabilities that are being fielded today predominantly focus on mounted platforms organic to the Low Altitude Air Defense Battalions and the Littoral Anti-Air Battalions, which encompass the entire air defense continuum up to and including defeating manned aircraft and cruise missile threats. Those dedicated air defense assets are not always practical or available at scale to support individual unit operations. The fielding of organic-CUAS capabilities will address this gap by providing essential self-defense equipment while not detracting from the operator’s primary duties. 

This decentralization of defensive measures aligns with the Marine Corps’ emphasis on maneuver warfare and dispersed operations, ensuring that all elements of the MAGTF can operate effectively in all environments. 

Furthermore, continuous evaluation and adaptation of these systems will be crucial to keep pace with evolving sUAS technologies and tactics. By addressing this need, the MAGTF will enhance its defensive posture, safeguard its operational integrity, and ensure mission success in an increasingly complex threat environment.

NRAAM 25 – Magpul UCS

Of the many new products announced by Magpul during this year’s NRA Annual Meeting, the new Universal Carbine Stock caught my eye, which is intended to be used with a vertical M-1913 stock mounting rail.

To accommodate the wide variety of charging handles styles and configuration, ejection port location, and control placement, the UCS features a reversible hinge for left and right folding configurations, and five degrees of drop for clearance (most stocks feature less of a drop, which doesn’t work for all firearms). The UCS stock also ships with two reversible cheek risers (0.50”, and 0.75”), and when combined with the reversible M1913 clamp (allowing for a 1/2-slot height adjustment along the rear rail for increased comb height flexibility), the shooter can dial in head placement for an optimal sight picture using iron sights or optics. The stock also gives shooters thee (3) inches of length of pull (LOP) adjustment across six (6) positions – which can be adjusted via the LOP buttons – the stock fits any shooter, with and without armor or other bulky equipment, and only adds about 18 ounces to a firearm without a stock. Just like the stock itself, the UCS’s sling attachment point is an anti-rotational QD socket that’s reversible. Last but not least, the stock is compatible with MOE SL and DT Butt-Pads, so you have options, there, too.
