COMAFSOC Releases 2023 Strategic Guidance

October 6th, 2023

HURLBURT FIELD, Fla. —

Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind, Commander of Air Force Special Operations Command, released the 2023 AFSOC strategic guidance on September 18.

The strategic guidance aligns with the 2022 National Defense Strategy and sets forth a framework for Air Commandos, their readiness, and pathfinding efforts. The command is transforming to properly prepare, prevent, and prevail against any adversary in today’s complex and uncertain operational environment.

“Warfighting, valor, and innovation are in our DNA,” said Bauernfeind. “We draw inspiration from the great legacy of Air Commandos who came before us. AFSOC has an immense history of Air Commandos who have paved the way, and we are committed to continuing the legacy in the years to come.”

The strategic guidance emphasizes that the AFSOC mission is to enable the joint force by delivering SOF Mobility, Strike, ISR and Air-to-Ground capabilities across the spectrum of competition and conflict.

The three lines of effort to achieve this mission are:

– Inspire and Develop a High-Performing Air Commando Force

– Trained and Ready Air Commandos

– Rapidly Pathfinding Concepts and Capabilities to WIN

Through these efforts, AFSOC will ensure that we sustain the level of peerless and professional Air Commandos in our force, that we are always ready to answer the nation’s call, and that we will advance our capabilities to create dilemmas for our adversaries.

“It’s going to take every Air Commando to implement this guidance,” said Bauernfeind. “I acknowledge that we’re in the whitewater of change, but I also know that we’re up for the challenge. The current and future operating environments will be demanding, but we will succeed because of our competitive advantage… our Air Commandos.”

Cancer remains a significant health concern amongst Veterans, and early detection plays a crucial role in improving outcomes. Matthew Meyers, CEO of B.E. Undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy is difficult enough, and being able to access cancer screenings that help with early detection is imperative to ensure proper care is rendered for all those who answered their nation’s call”.

The HunterSeven Foundation, a Veteran-founded, 501(c)(3) organization, conducts research on military exposures among post-9/11 Veterans and educates the Veteran on critical health information related to their exposures. Forward Controls Introduces MCX Variant Ambidextrous Charging Handle

October 5th, 2023

Forward Controls is proud to introduce the MCX variant of its Ambidextrous Charging Handle – FCD (ACF). The ACF is a monolithic charging handle that retains the dual latches of the SIG MCX factory charging handle, and incorporates an oversized gas fence. This unique horseshoe-shaped fence is specifically designed to conform to the upper receiver and effectively divert gas away from the shooter’s face. It is compatible with the MCX Spear, Spear LT, Virtus, and Rattler (5.56mm, 300 BO, and 7.62x39mm).

ACF’s shape is based on the M16 charging handle TDP, and retains the TDP design’s gently swept back T handle that are less likely to snag on webbing, the T handle is short but thick to provide more surface area, and features a curved and serrated back strap for the user’s thumb.  ACF’s latches recess into the T handle when mortared, this is designed to withstand repeated mortaring without damaging the charging handle.

By combining superior functionality with innovative design elements, the MCX variant of the ACF represents a significant step forward in our mission to provide shooters with the best possible user experience. Whether you’re a right-handed or left-handed shooter, you can count on the ACF to deliver exceptional performance and reliability in any situation. ASF-MCX is machined from 7075 aluminum, ACF is Type III hard coat anodized, and available in black and FDE. As always, proudly made in the USA.

Galvion Demonstrates ‘Charge on the Move’ Vehicle Mounted Soldier Power Solution at AUSA ‘23

October 5th, 2023

Galvion, a world leader in power and data management solutions and innovative head protection systems, will be demonstrating their “Charge on the Move” vehicle mounted soldier power solution, in response to emerging requirements to provide power and battery charging to dismounted troops while they are being transported in vehicles. This announcement coincides with AUSA, taking place in Washington DC, 9-11 October 2023, where Galvion is exhibiting this system alongside their wider product offering on booth #618.

The foundation of Galvion’s Charge on the Move solution is the field-proven and widely adopted Squad Power Manager™ (SPM) in a vehicle mounted configuration in order to streamline the connection between the onboard vehicle power systems and Galvion’s personal-worn power and data systems. The SPM converts vehicle power for direct operator use and provides smart charging when needed— no need for a large generator or extra batteries. Input power can be done through NATO tactical connections, via DC “cigarette” plug adapter, or direct from the vehicle battery, on-board AC or solar. The system is compatible with most tactical vehicles currently in use. Working in conjunction with Galvion’s power and data ecosystem, dismounted soldiers connect into the system using Galvion’s Personal Worn Scavenger™ (PWS) via low-profile, sealed magnetic connection, which provides quick connect-disconnect capability day or night and while wearing gloves, and gives a more secure and robust link. Operators can keep radios and other mission-critical equipment running while simultaneously trickle-charging personal-worn batteries and equipment. Additionally, Galvion’s proprietary Nerv Centr® Application, an integrated capability with the 2-Port Power & Data Hub™ (PDH-2), allows operators to monitor power supply versus demand, enabling quick analysis of power requirements. Up to four soldiers can connect to the SPM simultaneously, allowing dismounted soldiers to step off the vehicle fully charged and ready-to-go.

Kristen Lomastro, President of Active Systems at Galvion, said: “This Charge on the Move solution further optimizes the functionality and efficiency of our power management and wearable power & data ecosystems, taking up minimal real estate but providing maximum value. System interoperability builds flexibility and agility for the warfighter and increases their ability to respond and adapt to changes in operational demands. Lessening the burden on the individual operator and unit, whether physical, cognitive, or logistic, drives everything we do at Galvion, and this solution ticks all the boxes to enhance performance and support mission success.”
