EmFX Pouches from NEMO Equipment Now Available ADS

October 13th, 2010

The EmFX Pouches from NEMO Equipment that we wrote about back in July are finally available both for unit orders through ADS and individual purchase with Tactical Distributors. Essentially, the pouch creates a mini Faraday Cage blocking all incoming and outgoing Radio Frequency signals. This means, you can’t pocket dial someone and no one can remotely query the data stored on your cell phone. Unfortunately, bad guys can query this data, so as you stroll along on business or vacation, criminals (or worse) can collect your info, all without your knowledge. The only way to protect this data is to store it in a safe place. If you are someone who travels frequently overseas this pouch is a good investment.

Interestingly, in Chapter 4 of William Gibson‘s new book, “Zero History” the story mentions a Faraday Cage pouch for passports and what nastiness can happen to unsuspecting passport holders. In case you didn’t realize it, new passports include a Radio Frequency ID tag that contains information on you and allows customs to more quickly process you. NEMO Equipment is currently working on just such a model for passports.

Tactical Snuggie?

October 12th, 2010

Thanks to tacticalpantsblog for giving us a heads up on this. We are suckers for Snuggies. We have a couple of them lying around the home office and they make great gifts. But, they are essentially cheaply made and wouldn’t last for long in the great outdoors. The website claims that the Snuggie Outdoor is, “Ultra Soft Snuggie® Lining!” and “Water Resistant Nylon Exterior!” but we are not really sure what that means. We will be looking for one and will let our readers know how it fairs. On the other hand, it would be nice of something like this were available that was built specifically for tactical use. From someone…anyone?

I/O Bio Contact 1 Pilot Suit

October 12th, 2010

Winter is right around the corner and I/O Bio presents the Contact 1 Pilot Suit to keep you warm and snugly. Nothing feels like a union suit and the Contact 1 Pilot Suit takes the design one step further by adding thumbholes and a hood. Naturally, they have retained the shoot-the-moon drop seat to accommodate those pesky calls of nature. But probably the best feature about the Pilot Suit is that it made from Merino wool and what’s not to love about Merino? It’s naturally comfortable against the skin, hypo-allergenic, no melt no drip, and anti-microbial and anti-bacterial.

TenCate Announces Enhanced Version of Defender M

October 12th, 2010

TenCate has developed a new version of the FR Defender M fabric which enhances durability. It will be used on new production of the USMC’s Flame Resistant Organizational Gear (FROG) ensemble. Troops in Afghanistan have been particularly hard on their uniforms due to the austere, mountainous environment so the new fabric is a welcome addition to the combat uniform.

MICO Machine Gunner’s Assault Pack Now for Sale

October 12th, 2010

TYR Tactical (pronounced tear) released the MICO ‘Quiver of Death’ Machine Gunner Assault Pack. When we initially wrote about it, we told you it was a very specialized piece of kit. Now that it is actually available the price tag reflects that. Don’t get me wrong, it is very well built and uses the best components.

This isn’t something that you are going to see out on the MilSim skirmish field, but rather it is designed for a narrow task set. That doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be surprised to see knockoffs of the MICO before Christmas. However, if you are in the business of using an M240 or M249 in the Direct Action role, then you should take a look at the MICO.

Mad Duo Presents: Blue Falcon Patch – Often So Richly Deserved

October 12th, 2010

Buddy is just half a term. Blue Falcon sounds so much better, whether you say it in jest or with your teeth gritted from restraining the urge to throat punch some jackass that so desperately needs it.

We’re not talking about the Batman-look-a-like and his biomechanical dog, of course—as cool as they made Saturday mornings back in the day, their ongoing fights with Fishface, Swamprat, and other escapees from Big City Prison lack sufficient umph to become an integral part of the American military lexicon. You have to be a true Bravo Foxtrot (to use the convenient acronym for it) to earn such a revered place in military parlance. Bravo Foxtrottery (aka Blue Falconing) will probably be with us for a long time, or at least until a newer and better term comes along.

Besides, if you enlisted any time after the turn of the century you may not remember them (though the power of Boomerang reruns is not to be underestimated).

In any case, there’s little doubt you already know what it means if you’re reading this, and even less doubt (following this same line of reasoning) that you’ve witnessed one appear. Perhaps you’ve even seen it several times. It can happen anywhere, at any rank, and can run the gamut from task-oriented Blue Falconing at the squad or platoon level all the way up to truly prodigious HQ style Blue Falconing closer to the flagpole. It is frequently seen in billets or at bars and, in its most egregious appearance, immediately prior to a deployment.

Of course, it can also be used in response to a practical joke or ribald event that should never be talked about at the dinner table.

In any case, if you need a patch to pass along to someone that truly deserves it, the redoubtable MilSpecMonkey has come through for you. MSM has a Blue Falcon crest that will no doubt find its way into many a barracks or shop. It’s being retailed in several places, including Going Loud Tactical Outfitters and MilSpecMonkey’s own store. Incidentally, there’s a pretty funny organization blog on line at www.BlueFalcons.org that’s worth reading, and if it’s not updated as frequently as we’d like, the contents always good.

Gitcha one of these crests fo’ sho’. If you purchase from either of the two places we mentioned, let ‘em know you heard it from us. We’re trying to get free swag for folks that submit pictures.

As always, should you possess sufficient perspicuity to realize how cool it is to be associated with us, please enroll in our blog at www.breachbangclear.com or join us on FaceBook at www.Facebook.com/madduo.

Klymit Inertia X Frame

October 11th, 2010

Looking for an ultralightweight sleeping pad? Then check out the Inertia X Frame sleeping pad from Klymit which weighs in at a scant 9.1 ounces. We’ve written about Klymit before, innovators in the use of Argon gas as insulation. The secret to the pad’s weight is that it is a frame design. Klymit used body mapping to arrive at the unique shape which puts padding and insulation where it’s needed. Additionally, it rolls up to the size of a soda can so it won’t take up much room in a pack. While typically, Klymit uses Argon gas to inflate their products, the X Frame relies on good old breath, but the innovative design only requires 2-4 breaths.
