Batlskin Viper Front Mount

Revision’s Viper Front Mount features an interchangeable center piece system which allows the user to swap the receiver component and utilize various NVG interface plates. The Front Mount also acts as the MPAS platform, allowing integration of the full line of Batlskin Viper components such as the Interlocking Long Rails and Mandible Guards.

Batlskin Viper Interlocking Long Rails

Revision’s Viper Interlocking Long Rails attach to the Front Mount and allow for quick and easy attachment of cameras, lights, and other head borne accessories. The rails are sized specifically to fit small, medium, large, or extra-large helmets. Now available to order.

Batlskin Viper Three-Position Visor

Revision’s Viper Three-Position visor clips into the Front Mount with a simple, one-handed movement, and can be worn in three configurations: locked, vented, or up. The Visor features high-impact protection and maximum field-of-view while remaining scratch, fog, and chemical resistant. An optional gasket provides a seal between the Visor and helmet. The Viper Visor will be available in early June.

Batlskin Viper Mandible Guards

Revision’s updated Mandible Guard provides best-in-class lower-face protection in a strapless design that’s lightweight and quickly attaches to the Front Mount without the use of tools. The Guard is easily tilted downwards in varying degrees from improved sight compatibility, eating, and drinking. Pressing the mandible against the chest resets it to its original position. The Mandible Guard will be available in early Summer.

Prowler Augmentation System

The B-TEMIA / Revision Prowler is a near skin, lower body motorized soldier protection device worn on both legs. It is designed to increase the metabolic energy reserve of soldiers while preventing short and long term musculoskeletal injuries. The Prowler distributes the load across the entire body from the upper body to the lower legs, circumventing the load around the knee joint which is proven to reduce applied stress to the knee by 1/3 under combat load conditions. The Prowler has been tested through the US Army NSRDEC Human Augmentation Program and SOCOM’s TALOS Program.

SOFIC 2014 – Precision Targeting

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

Precision Targeting develops solid state weapon mounted targeting systems. I got a chance to check out a developmental model of their new RIANOV Eagle at SHOT Show.

The RIANOV Eagle is a weapon mounted (1913 compatible) ballistic computer. It offers a fully compensated ballistic solution monitoring environmental conditions and weapon system orientation (slope and cant) to provide a firing solution.

The military version is interoperable with the STORM, Rulr and RAPTOR. Additionally, it offers Field of View truing meaning rather than playing with the computer to tweak muzzle velocity, the shooter can enter raw mil adjustments based on what he saw. The RIANOV Eagle holds up to 16 weapon systems and up to 60 dope solutions per weapon system.

SOFIC 2014 – SOG Specialty Knives & Tools

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

SOG has updated the popular Trident folder with an additional model called the Trident Elite. While the original is still available, SOG answered customer requests by adding a glass breaker, introducing co-molded rubber on the handle for an enhanced grip and upgraded the spring to the SAT 2.0 flat spring technology. This new spring consists of a wound flat bar making it the fastest spring they have.

Additionally, the carry profile remains the same with the same strap cutter. The 3.7″ blade is crafted from Japanese AUS8 steel and the handle is a combo of Glass Reinforced Nylon co-molded with rubber. Offered in polished satin and TiNi finish. Finally, the glass breaker features a carbide tip.

SOFIC 2014 – Magpul L-Plate

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

20140521-092519.jpg

Occasionally, one of my best finds at a trade show will turn out to be something that has been around for some time. While most of the shooting world has adopted polymer rifle magazines there are still those who are required to use the US GI 30 round mag, such as the Marine Corps. Years ago, Magpul introduced the L-Plate, a low profile base plate that replaces the base plate on the issue mag. It’s made from Santorene over molded onto a steel plate. Unlike the Ranger Plate, the L-Plate has a much lower, streamlined shape that is easy to grab and has channels for cordage if you use that to aid in pulling them from mags or the old-school carabiner storage for empties. The L-Plate also serves as a bumber to help lengthen the life cycle of the mag.

I think that the L-Plate is a great after market upgrade for US GI 30 round mags. Sold in packs of 3. Check it out.

SOFIC 2014 – Polaris Industries

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

This was a real shocker. Polaris Industries recently started working with a composites company named M9 Defense. Aside from vehicle armor, they also came up with a new helmet in response to a USSOCOM Broad Agency Announcement.

The Lightweight Tactical Helmet boasts an aerial density of less than 2 lbs psf, yet defeats 7.62×39 threats with a Back Face Deformation of <25.4 mm front and back and 16 mm side and crown. www.xshellhelmets.com

SOFIC 2014 – L3 Integrated Optical Systems

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

20140520-161810.jpg

Pittsburgh-based L3 Integrated Optical Systems showed me their new Long-Range Sniper System which is like an optic on steroids. They’ve taken a popular commercial off- the-shelf 4×22 optic and integrated laser range finder, temperature, MEMS cant and incline sensors. The base optic’s etched reticle is still there so even if your electronics go down, you’ll be able to effectively engage targets.

20140520-161941.jpg

The LSS integrates algorithms for M24, M110, M40, XM2010 and M107.
Naturally, all of that additional data being integrated right at the optic is going to increase the probability of first round hits. But, the shooter will still need basic marksmanship skills such as breathing and trigger control.

SOFIC 2014 – CORE Survival’s New HEL-STAR F2

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

20140520-152821.jpg

The new HEL-STAR F2 is a indent iffy friend or foe light system. Based on the footprint of the HEL-STAR 6 strobe, it consists of a field programmable strobe light and User Feedback Module Buzzer Pad. The UFM is attached by a removable cable to the strobe and when the strobe is interrogated by an IR laser, the UFM buzzes giving a silent, yet tactile alert. That let’s you know that friendlies are in the area. In testing, the system has detected IR Lasers at 800m. The UFM can be placed anywhere in the helmet for comfort.
