SOFIC 2014 – Atlas Devices – Sled Dog Pack from PMK Solutions

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

The guys at Atlas Devices showed us a new product developed by PMK Solutions (USAF PJ) called the Sled Dog Pack. We’ll give you a sneak peek and follow up soon with a full article.

Designed specifically for PJs and Medics, the heart of the Sled Dog Pack is the aluminum frame sheet (for stability and durability) that integrates PALS Compatible slots into the design called MSIG for MOLLE System Integrated Gear.

The MSIG offers shoulder straps and a padded yoke and lumbar which is removable to accommodate armor. The MSIG pouches include a micro haul kit, crash axe and GP pouch.

It also incorporates a Removable waist belt called the MARCH Belt (Massive, Hemorrhaging, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Hypothermia). MARCH is a trauma treatment protocol and the belt is configured specifically to support that treatment. Internally, the sleeve offers pockets for casualty cards and chem lights and the outer area offers two rows of PALS webbing. The sleeve accepts load rated belts. The pouches mounted from left to right support the MARCH acronym.

SOFIC 2014 – Armadillo Merino

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

UK-based Armadillo Merino specializes in next-to-skin, head-to-toe Merino Wool garments with NZ sourced wool and innovative designs.

The advantages of Merino wool are myriad including No Melt, No Drip, inherent anti-microbial which eliminates smelly wool, no spark for those in gaseous environments such as taking down clandestine drug labs or aircraft, and UV protection. It offers the same qualities you seek from synthetic performance garments, but naturally. Most of all, Merino offers comfort. These aren’t your grandad’s itchy wool drawers. Merino is comfortable against the skin, summer or winter.

Because Armadillo specializes in next-to-skin garments, they do a great job of offering designs that are comfortable. For example, there are no tags in the neck and their raglan sleeves keep seams off the tops of shoulders. Speaking of seams, they are all flat and they offer single panel from wrist to hip with no armpit seams. Additionally, they offer several weights of sock and headwear. The lightest, summer weight, garment is 140 grams per sq meter and the heaviest is a modest 190 grams per sq meter which is perfect for winter use.

SOFIC 2014 – Paratech

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

Paratech has developed a new maritime damage control shoring system. The current state of the art consists of centrally located wooden shoring that must be measured and cut to size. The new Paratech Damage Control System is easier to use, offers considerably more strength then the traditional wood method and is will not succumb to fire threats like wood which will combust. Additionally, there are no mold or mildew threats or corrosion.

Recently adopted by a European Navy, the system has been deployed on their ships in various locations on the ship increasing reaction times.

SOFIC 2014 – Gore Military

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

On the heels of WL Gore’s Multi-Spectral concealment “Turkey Suit”, they’ve introduced a Hide system. This reversible design offers visual camouflage for Multi-Environments as well as NIR, SWIR, MIWR, and LWIR.

20140521-123526.jpg

As you can see, this 6′ x 6′ hide stuffs down to a more than manageable size.

20140521-123802.jpg

The Hide can be connected to additional hides to offer more real estate. In case you’re wondering, the pattern in this example is a proprietary camouflage developed by WL Gore initially for the US Army Camo trials. It is not offered commercially at this time. There are multiple patterns available under contract sales.

SOFIC 2014 – Tactical Revolution

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

Tactical Revolution has introduced a weapon mountable ballistic shield for use with weapons in fixed positions that do not have a more elaborate gun shield.

20140521-104421.jpg

The AJAX Armor System is intended to protect the gunner from enemy fire into his shoulder area which is more lightly armored than the chest. Consisting on a Picatinny rail mount and armored 46100 steel plates, AJAX weighs 1.46 lbs per mount and 3.6 lbs per plate. Naturally, this means it’s meant for use in fixed positions but it can quickly be mounted and dismounted from the weapon.
