SureFire Responds to NDAA Rumors

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

In the interest of putting some downright far out rumors to bed, we are publishing this statement by SureFire verbatim.

Dear Concerned American Citizens and SureFire Customers,

We’ve been made aware of various articles pertaining to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and SureFire’s alleged role as a lobbyist and/or financial supporter of the bill and its primary political backer, Sen. Robert Portman. The news reports are using our associations with a Political Action Committee (PAC), a former consulting group, and a government contract to infer that we support indefinite military detention of American citizens without charge or trial. These reports are false and misleading. Our association with this bill has nothing to do with citizens’ rights and SureFire is now the casualty of a disregard for sound journalism.

We’ve never supported the removal of citizens’ rights let alone do we have any connection with those responsible for the injustice. Any news outlet alleging SureFire’s support of anti-American rights, is reporting lies. SureFire’s support of unrelated parts of the NDAA does not constitute support for every part of the bill like those that are now being contested.

Haley Strategic Partners Releases Adaptive Light Mounts

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Partnering with Impact Weapons Components, Travis Haley developed two new HSP Adaptive Light Mounts. Available in two models; Dropwing and Thorntail, both are designed to mount the SureFire Scout Light to carbines in such a manner to leave room for both your hands on the rifle but also any lasers or other devices mounted to the carbine. They can be mounted in 8 different positions on the rail system and moves the light forward, in front of lasers or other gear with plenty of room to keep even a vampire head out of the way of a laser.

Dropwing

The Dropwing is intentionally designed to fit in a shorter carbine’s rail system (works fine with longer rails as well). But, instead of mounting to the Picatinny rail itself, it mounts in the space between the rail sections to offer a lower profile.

Thorntail

Conversely, the Thorntail does the same things as the Dropwing, except that it is Mil Std 1913 rail compatible.

Although designed to mount a SureFire Scout Light, there is also a ring system for use with these mounts to accommodate other lights.

From what we understand, these are the first of many weapons accessories on the way from Haley Strategic Partners.

TF Checks Out the SureFire MAG5-100 HCM

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Our very own Tactical Fanboy gave the SureFire 100 round MAG 5-100 high-capacity magazine a go during a training course conducted by 914 Consulting at C2 Shooting Center on his birthday. While not a comprehensive test, he shared it with several other students who used it in a variety of rifles by various manufactured with no problems noted.

The SureFire 100-round High-Capacity Magazine is constructed from Mil-Spec hard-anodized aluminum. It weights 3.3 lbs. (!) fully loaded, and has a length of 12.2 inches, so have fun trying to go prone. It features reliable functioning thanks to mechanical simplicity and high-quality, non-binding springs coated with cadmium for low friction and corrosion resistance. Any weapon that can accept STANAG 4179 compliant magazines can accept one of these. Specifications aside, can a magazine with this high a capacity actually work reliably?

The rifle is a Blackheart International BHI-15 with a Lucid LLC HD7 Red Dot Sight.

My initial analysis: yeah, it can. See, I was at a training class yesterday (more on that later) and I happened to bring a hi-cap mag along. Not for the class, mind you, but because I was at the range and I finally had a chance to test it out. It took a long time to load, and it was heavy [said Captain Obvious], but it seated just fine and I had no feeding failures. I had a few of the other students try it out as well, so it went through multiple AR-15s from many different manufacturers, and still had no issues. I’d have to use it a few more times, and in different weapons, to be completely sure, but as it stands it’s my full belief that SureFire made a great product in this magazine.
