USASOC International Sniper Competition Winners Used Wilcox RAPTAR-S

Tuesday, April 26th, 2016

Not only did 2016’s winning two-man team from Fort Bragg’s 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) use the RAPTAR-S range finder from Wilcox Industries, but so did the second and third place teams.

The annual competition draws sniper teams from domestic and international military units as well as federal and state law enforcement agencies. This year, there were 24 teams, including four foreign teams, descended upon Fort Bragg’s SOF Sniper Course facility, the famous Range 37, in order to determine who’s the best. There were a total of 19 stages which used a combination of time, distance and the unknown, in both day and night, in disctances varying from 25 to 1,000 meters to challenge the competitors.

And it’s in that environment where the RAPTAR-S shines. Not only does it incorporate an Infra-red (IR) laser, visible laser, IR flood and laser range finder (LRF) the RAPTAR-S also features an applied ballistics computer created by their partner nVisti Tactical Innovation which specializes in the field of small arms fire control systems with expertise in laser range finders, ballistics, wind measurement and digital imaging. Through nVisti’s partnership with Applied Ballistics and Accuracy 1st, the company has been responsible for the development and integration of the ballistics, firmware and software for the RAPTAR-S weapon-mounted laser range finder.

The solver’s computations achieve nearly the accuracy of a full 6 degree of freedom model using a three degree of freedom (3DOF) modified point mass numerical solver considering all environmental conditions including average cross-wind or a cross-wind profile. It accounts for all major and minor trajectory variables including the use of measured G7 BC’s and even the option to use custom drag curves for over 400 bullets. The output is shown in MILs, MOAs, or even an ACOG BDC reticle. Included within the system is a ballistic calibration feature allows user to ‘train’ the software to match a specific rifle based on observed impacts at long range. Combined with the over 400 custom measured bullet drag curves (available for syncing via Android or PC), shooters have everything the need to make a much more precise trajectory calculation than any other software available.

Included within the RAPTAR-S, the Applied Ballistics solver measures temperature, pressure, humidity, inclination, cant, heading to the target, and GPS coordinates. By using these sensor readings and the custom drag curves, the solver is capable of producing ballistic solutions that are accurate to within 0.1 mils through the subsonic range of the bullet’s flight.

The ballistic data can be exported to most mobile devices or paired with BAE thermal sights as well as the UTC SWIR HWH-SMS camera. In the case of the latter two systems, the RAPTAR-S provides a ballistic solution to the disturbed reticle.

USASOC Sniper Comp – Wilcox Industries

Friday, March 25th, 2016

Every time I sit down with Wilcox Industries they have something new. This company is constantly innovating. This time, it’s the G24R mount and low-pro shroud. The R suffix is for ‘rail’ and as you can see, it’s set up to accept both ground and aviation goggle interfaces.

It incorprates all of the features you’d expect from a Wilcox mount:
Breakaway Release Lever
Tilt Adjustment
Lock Release Lever for Height of NVG
Fore/Aft Release Lever for proximity to eyes
NVG Release Lever
Flip Release
Wilcox Dovetail Shoe
Available in Black or Tan

Another thing I really like about this shroud is how close it fits to the helmet.

The part number for the G24R Mount and low-profile shroud with lanyard is 61300G19.

Wilcox Industries Is Now Manufacturing Products In Australia

Monday, April 20th, 2015

PM Tony Abbott and GB

Wilcox – Made in Australia.

A major milestone occurred today, when Graeme Bulte CEO and Founder of Melbourne based company Aquaterro, presented Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott with the very first Wilcox product “Made in Australia”.

Wilcox Industries is a leading American defense products manufacturer from New Hampshire, who specializes in advanced manufacturing, computer aided design and rapid manufacturing.  Wilcox is well known as a provider of equipment of the highest quality and specification to Special Forces, law enforcement and other military clients.

Wilcox and Aquaterro are currently in the middle of delivering on a significant contract for Night Vision Mounting Systems to the Australian Defense Force (ADF) as part of a multi-million dollar night vision capability upgrade for the Australian soldier.

“Wilcox Industries Pty Ltd” an Australian Company, was recently incorporated as a stand-alone Joint Venture between Wilcox Industries and Aquaterro, in order to expand the supply chain and global footprint of Wilcox, and to more closely mirror the kind of rapid customer response and operator focus that Wilcox provides for its U.S. customers.

“Wilcox understands that in order to succeed in Australia and the region, it needs to have a footprint and investment in Australia” said Graeme Bulte, “ and we are committed to bringing that customer focus and capability, along with the advanced manufacturing jobs opportunity it represents, to Melbourne”.

The Australian Made Wilcox EF1500  rail allows for accessories such as laser aiming devices to be securely fitted to Australian Army rifles.

The new “Wilcox EF1500 Exo-Skeleton Rail” is destined to be the first of many success stories as these close USA-Australian allies grow this cooperation across the Pacific in support of our soldiers and the growth of advanced manufacturing jobs.

Check Out The New Compact Stubby Grips From Wilcox

Monday, November 10th, 2014

We checked out the new stubby Wilcox grips at AUSA. In addition to the folding option, the grips are hollow with cap. Finally, as is expected, you can attach switches to the grips.

Newington, NH—Wilcox Industries is introducing two new weapon mounted vertical grips that are designed with the same quality of their originally designed grips but only half the length. The new Stubby Grips are designed to fit comfortably in your hands while attached to any 1913/STANAG style weapon rail. The Stubby Grip comes in both a standard fixed vertical and folding para model design. Wilcox Stubby Grips are perfect for scenarios when compactness, ruggedness and streamlining of the weapon are a must.

The Para Stubby Grip features a hinged mechanism that allows it to fold up against the rail. This feature allows for streamlining of the weapon during dynamic operations and also eliminates the need to remove the grip for stowage. The Steady Stubby Grip is also available in a standard fixed vertical grip.

The grips feature a thumbscrew mounting system that allows for easy and sturdy mounting on any standard 1913-MIL-Spec Rail. Both versions of grips are made of lightweight and robust aerospace grade aluminum that is Type III anodized and features a molded polymer sleeve, which ensures a secure grip during severe operational and environmental conditions.

Wilcox Industries – Dual Powered Aviation Mount

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014

We checked out the new DPAM at AUSA. It allows power directly from the mount or via the cable to a rear mounted battery box.

Wilcox Improved Design For Aviation NVG’s to Fit Flight Helmets

Newington, NH-Wilcox has designed a Dual Powered Aviation Mount (DPAM) for use by Aviators and crewman that offers an overall improvement to the current existing systems and integrates into a flight helmet. The DPAM mount works with the ANVS-6/9, F4949, F5050 and GPNVG night vision goggles.

IMG_8267.JPG

This mount fully integrates into the currently used external batteries utilizing a standard 4-pin Lemo connector or can run off an internal 123A lithium battery for up to eight hours. The internal backup battery provides power to the NVG even when removed from the mount. This completely eliminates the need for the snap on battery pack and the additional weight. This system comes with the option of a permanent Wilcox 4-hole HMI or a Quick-Release 4-hole HMI that mount into the visor.

Unique features of the DPAM include a low-battery indicator light and a Power Mode selection that allows the operator to choose between the external and internal power supply without having to remove the helmet. The system has a switch guard that protects against accidental snags. The mount includes a clip that attaches to the visor to secure the power chord out of the way.

An NVG flip button allows the goggle to “flip up” into a stowed position when not in use. This enables the auto-off capabilities of the goggle helping to save battery life. The system has several adjustment points for a precise fit. An interface plate provides a stable mounting platform and helps with the fit. It also allows the DPAM to easily be removed from the shroud.

The mount is manufactured from lightweight aerospace grade metal and high strength polymer. A field replaceable ball detent insert provides the ability to set tolerances over the life of the mount. The mount fist into ballistic and non-ballistic helmets drilled with the standard one or three-hole pattern and when used with Wilcox’s line of NVG shrouds. The mount and shroud weigh a minimal 5.92 ounces.
