Arc’teryx LEAF – Assault Shirt & Pant LT

Monday, April 24th, 2017

While many would look at the Assault LT series and call it a “Jungle” uniform, it’s not specifically designed for use in jungle, or arid environs for that matter, but rather as a more generic Hot Weather Combat Uniform. The Katana fabric from WL Gore & Associates incorporates ePTFE fibers and is lightweight, breathable, fast drying and no melt/no drip. The Katana is combined with 520E Tweave and Cyberknit mesh.

Assault Shirt LT

Features:
-PPE compatible allowing the shirt to be functionally worn with body armour
-Low profile zip neck allowing collar to be worn either open or as a neck protector
-Arm cuff velcro closures allowing for fully enclosed sleeves
-Upper arm zip pockets allowing for convenient pocket accessibility when wearing PPE
-Upper arm IFF Velcro® 4×4.5” (w/V-Lite™ retention ring) enhancing the retention of electronic IFF devices
-Daisy chain hard points (in upper arm pockets) allowing for the tying off of mission essential equipment
-Mesh pocket bag liners (upper arm pocketing) allowing for enhanced ventilation and reducing overall apparel weight when the shirt is wet

Assault Pant LT

Features:
-Adjustable waist (c.2”) allowing for waist sizing flexibility
-Enhanced belt loops allowing for the use of the LEAF Rigger’s system
-Retention loops (sewn into waistline) allowing for the tying off of personal items
-Reinforced knees & gusseted crotch allowing for increased durability and enhancing end-user mobility
-Hand pockets (w/internal folding knife pocket) allowing for the secure carriage of a standard folding knife
-Seat pockets allowing for optional/extra storage
-Expandable cargo button pockets capable of providing dump pocket capability
-Draw cord ankle cuff closure (w/vertical retention tunnel for adjustment end) allowing for pants to be worn tightly with boots
-Mesh pocket bag/knee pad insert liners allowing for enhanced ventilation and reducing overall apparel weight when the pant is wet
-Soft knee pad insert capable allowing the end-user an option to insert soft knee pads

Recce Shirt LT

Although the subject of today’s article is the Assault Shirt and Pant, there is a third, complimentary piece, the Recce Shirt LT. The Recce Shirt LT is made from the same Katana fabric as the other items and features a user removable zipper closure down the front and mesh breathability panels inside the dual chest pockets.

Development

As far as Arc’teryx LEAF products go, development of the Assault LT items was fast tracked. The initial T&E was conducted in the Summer of 2014 and they were announced publicly at SHOT Show, 2017. However, the plan to go to market came just last year, in February. Uniforms were evaluated by Coalition SOF during operational deployments so feedback was quickly incorporated into design refinements. For example, the Pants didn’t originally incorporate kneepads or rear pockets. The user trials indicated they were needed. Additionally, Arc’teryx introduced a Tweave 520E gusset into the crotch to deal with pilling. Finally, the Velcro panels on the sleeves of the shirts is now 4.5″ tall to accommodate attachment of the V-Lite from S&S Precision.

Service Life

Considering its use, Arc’teryx designed this uniform as a consumable product. Interestingly, this gave several potential customers pause, so Arc’teryx collected data during their user evaluation and it turns out that they will easily handle six months of operational use.

Colors and Sizes

As this is such a specialized item, they are currently sticking with the MultiCam print and have no plans to offer additional colors. Sizes offered are from XS-XXL.

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

GRINNELL, Iowa (April 21, 2017) – Brownells proudly supports American patriots who wear uniforms of all types – sometimes even those who wear a package delivery uniform.

When footage of Matt Uhrin, an Iowa City-area package delivery man, appeared on national media showing him bravely saving an American flag from being burned by a group of protestors, Brownells knew they had to thank their fellow Iowan.

An NRA member and U.S. Army combat veteran, Mr. Uhrin, also known as the “FedEx Guy” will attend several events with the Brownells team at the upcoming 146th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Atlanta, GA.

These events include the open-to-the-public Brownells Social Media Meetup taking place in the Omni Hotel South Tower Lobby on Friday, April 28, at 6:30 PM. In addition to Mr. Uhrin’s presence, Brownells will host Eric & Chad from IraqVet8888, Mr. Guns ‘N Gear, LeaSpeed6, Janna Reeves, RapidFire Rachel and other industry social media personalities.

Mr. Uhrin will also be honored during a special presentation in the Brownells booth (#1713) at 1:45 PM (EDT) on Saturday, April 29.

“It’s a privilege to honor Matt at this year’s NRA Annual Meeting and Exhibits,” added Pete Brownell, CEO of Brownells. “This annual gathering is not only a celebration of our Second Amendment and the freedoms we enjoy as Americans, it’s also a place to acknowledge real people who do the right thing. I can’t think of a better place to thank Matt for his service to our country and the heroism he displayed while protecting our Nation’s flag and all it stands for.”

EuroOptic.com, a leading online distributor for high-performance firearms and optics for sportsmen, police and military, is first US distributor to carry the Ritter & Stark SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle models and accessories.

Feistritz, Austria (April 2017) – Ritter & Stark GmbH, an Austrian-based firearms design and manufacturing company, is proud to announce EuroOptic.com, a large online retailer of fine optics and firearms from the leading manufacturers, to be the first US distributor for the SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle, conversion kits and accessories. The SX-1 Modular Tactical Rifle (MTR), which has received major media attention since it’s unveiling at the 2017 SHOT Show, is now available in three calibers, along with Ritter & Stark conversion kits and accessories all at www.eurooptic.com.

“Partnering with EuroOptic.com was a natural for Ritter & Stark,” Yakov Trakhman, Marketing Director for Ritter & Stark said. “EuroOptic’s primary focus is to carry high-performance products for the discerning customer and the SX-1 MTR undoubtedly fits that criteria.”

The SX-1 MTR long-range precision rifle is now available in .308 Win, .300 Win Magnum and .338 Lapua Magnum and 20”, 24” and 27” barrel lengths at EuroOptic.com. EuroOptic.com also offers Ritter & Stark conversion kits for the quick caliber change between any of the three available calibers.

Conversion kits contain a Ritter & Stark barrel with Picatinny rail and a bolt face for conversion of most calibers. The .308 Win converting to a .300 Win (24”) and .300 Win/.338 LM (20”) conversion kits include the Picatinny railed barrel, bolt face and a magazine adaptor. The .300 Win Mag/.338 LM 24” conversion to a .308 Win include Picatinny railed barrel, magazine adapter, bolt face and a 10 round magazine. Other accessories available at EuroOptic include magazine adapters, bolt heads, Picatinny rails, muzzle break, forend handguard with M-LOK, tactical sling and a hard transport case with a customized insert for the SX-1 MTR and accessories and the Spuhr Scope Mount Assembly, recommended by Ritter & Stark.

What sets the SX-1 MTR apart from other long-range precision rifles are several well thought out and executed design features such as having the MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail installed directly on the barrel, thus allowing the user to interchange barrels with pre-set scopes without a loss of zero within minutes. The patented caliber conversion system assures that the barrel is precisely positioned in the machined aluminum receiver, allowing for a greater area of contact, resulting in increased stability. The bolt also locks directly into the barrel breech, which gives the SX-1 MTR unprecedented accuracy.

The SX-1 MTR’s accuracy is a result of Ritter & Stark’s proprietary rifling process. This process extends barrel life, ensures uniformity throughout all barrels produced and most of all, benefits the user with superior performance and accuracy.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (April 20, 2017) – Colt is pleased to congratulate Team Colt shooter Maggie Reese as she achieves the title of 2017 Ladies National Champion in Open Division at the USPSA MultiGun Nationals, April 14-16 in Boulder City, NV. This is Reese’s fourth win in this competition, previously having won in 2009, 2010, and 2015.

“Another outstanding performance from Maggie,” said Paul Spitale, SVP at Colt. “We are so proud of the excellence that Maggie continues to achieve on the competitive field through her passion and hard work. It’s something that all of us here a Colt draw a good deal of inspiration from.”

The competition drew over 250 competitors to test their rifle, shotgun, and handgun mastery. There were thirteen stages, and targets exceeded 300 yards. Reese competed in the Open Division, which allows the use of multiple optics and bipods with no limit on magazine capacity.

“This match always offers an excellent challenge,” said Reese. “I depended on my Colt LE6920 to really drive home the rifle stages, and as always, it performed flawlessly. It’s one less variable I have to worry about at a match.”

Come see Maggie Reese at the Colt booth (#2830) at the NRA Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA, April 28-30, 2017. There she will be signing posters along with the Team Colt shooters Mark Redl and Wyatt Gibson.

Daisy Outdoor Products With Boy Scouts Of America To Promote Shooting Sport Safety And Education

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017

Rogers, AR (April 12, 2017) – Daisy Outdoor Products, the most-recognized name in airguns worldwide, today announced a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to promote safety and education in the shooting sports to today’s youth. This agreement makes Daisy the official airgun of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts of America, the largest youth organization in the country, in association with Daisy, will provide local councils and camps throughout the country with safety-oriented experiences and lessons that are both exciting and educational.

“There is no doubt that more people have learned how to shoot with a Daisy BB gun than with any other,” said Daisy President Keith Higginbotham. “Teaching the basics of marksmanship and shooting safety, through one-on-one mentoring as well as structured programs, continues to be at the core of our mission.

“To be recognized as the Official BB Gun of the Boy Scouts of America and to be involved in this far-reaching youth shooting sports initiative is a huge source of pride,” he continued. “Hundreds of millions of adults have been positively affected by Scouting, learning to become responsible citizens, developing character and becoming self-reliant. Involvement in the shooting sports develops similar traits, such as discipline, patience, self-control and responsibility.”

This partnership makes Daisy’s iconic inflatable ranges available to the BSA’s 274 local councils as well as enhancing the shooting sports program at camp sites across the country. The inflatable ranges allow seasoned instructors to work individually with young people who may be shooting for the first time. Instructors emphasize shooting safety rules and teach basic marksmanship, including breath control, trigger pull, sight picture and more.

“As the nation’s leading organization that brings outdoor adventures to life for millions of young people, we greatly appreciate the support and commitment that Daisy Outdoor Products is providing to Scouting through this important partnership,” said Brad Farmer, Assistant Chief Executive of the Boy Scouts of America.

Ask any hunter or shooting sports enthusiast how he or she was introduced to the sport and the answer you’re going to hear most is that it all started with a Daisy. Together, Daisy and the Boy Scouts of America will present a comprehensive shooting sports program that will build character while introducing young people to the wholesome sport of shooting.

The National Rifle Association Disinvites US Concealed Carry Association from Annual Meeting and Exhibits

Saturday, April 22nd, 2017

USCCA Will Continue to Support NRA’s Mission

West Bend, WI – The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) today announced that the National Rifle Association (NRA) has disinvited the organization from its 2017 Annual Meetings & Exhibits and the 2018 Great American Outdoor Show because of “concerns regarding its programs.”

The move shocked the leadership of the USCCA because they were given less than two weeks notice that they had been banned from the annual show, even though they had attended for the past several years. This decision also came as a surprise because over the past two months, the leadership from the NRA and the USCCA met twice to discuss the shared goal of the two organizations in support of the Second Amendment.

In a note sent to millions of USCCA supporters, Founder and President Tim Schmidt said that even though the NRA might be fearing the competition, USCCA will still support the NRA’s efforts to protect the Second Amendment.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little perplexed myself. The truth is, I don’t really know the motive behind the NRA’s move. I mean, the USCCA has ALWAYS had a great relationship with the NRA. And the way I see it, we’re all in this together,” Schmidt said.

“If I had to guess, I’d say that perhaps this is a strategic business maneuver,” added Schmidt. “I mean, the concealed carry market has really exploded over the last decade — just look at how long the USCCA has been around! Maybe the NRA recognizes us as the frontrunner in providing the absolute best education, training and self-defense insurance in the industry. And perhaps they’re starting to see us less as a partner and more as a competitor.”

“As much as it sort of stings that we got ‘booted’ from the NRA Show, I believe that this sort of competition is a good, healthy and even exciting thing — especially from a goliath like the NRA.”

“Whether or not the NRA supports us, we will continue to support them,” Schmidt said. “We will continue to believe in their mission. We will continue to respect the historical significance of what they have done to preserve and protect our God-given rights. And we will always support their legislative and lobbying efforts. I personally will continue to donate to the NRA as a proud Lifetime Member.”
