IR Reflective Symbology Patches

S.O. Tech has taken their tactical symbology system to the next level with the IR Reflective Patches. Unveiled at TREXPO East, IRRP is a small IR reflective patch that attaches via hook and pile tape to clothing and equipment to mark personnel or contents. Each IRRP is emblazoned with one of the tactical symbols created by S.O. Tech for use by military during micro mission planning at the Company and below level or for scene and incidence control during LE operations. These symbols have been adapted for use beyond just chits on a map and can now be used to identify an individual person’s equipment or for more generic use to designate roles for both equipment and personnel. They are small enough to be discrete yet the IR feature makes them useful day or night, in virtually any environment.

ITS Tactical has recently done an excellent review of Zulu Nylon Gear’s Mega Admin Pouch. I think it is aptly named. This 1000D Cordura provides more than ample space for your administrative needs and features a fold down area that serves as a chest mounted desk.

Source One and ViaGlobal Group Form Alliance

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

ViaGlobal, LLC, a tailored training and leadership organization supporting the United States military and United States Government, and Source One Distributors, Inc. recently confirmed a teaming arrangement that will allow both companies to provide additional enhanced goods and services to the United States Armed Forces. Source One is well known to our readers for its participation in the Special Operational Equipment Tailored Logistics Support program and ViaGlobal most recently was awarded a contract to manage and operate the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center near Amman, Jordan.

The $200 million KASOTC facility is situated in a 1,235-acre quarry and the compound consists of fully equipped grenade ranges, a 100-meter rifle and pistol range, and a 300-meter rifle range. An eight-story structure for climbing, rappelling, and distance shooting serves as a centerpiece of the facility. There is also a full-scale A-300 Airbus fuselage for aircraft training, and a close-quarters battle (CQB) house with a three-story armored facility and adjoining five-story tower that provides room-to-room combat practice using live fire.

“We are very excited to work with ViaGlobal,” said Source One President & CEO, Mark Llano. “From our time spent with them at KASOTC we knew that we were getting a teaming partner that was committed to doing everything possible to support our troops in the field.”

The relationship is a win-win for both companies. Leveraging ViaGlobal’s knowledge base of former military and government leaders, as well as their network of contacts in the industry, Source One will not only gain a competitive edge in the marketplace but also be able to expand its already vast customer base. Alternatively, utilizing Source One’s award winning distribution capabilities and procurement vehicles, ViaGlobal will be able to significantly grow the range of products and services they offer to the warfighter.

Surefire Echo Knife

Designed specifically for use by Special Warfare personnel, the fixed blade Echo features a spear point crafted from CRUCIBLE CPM® 3V® carbon steel coated in a rustproof film. Envisioned by Knifesmith Steve Ryan, it is a straight forward design that is low on gadgetry and high on reliability. The inch and a half of the blade closest to the handle is serrated and the entire blade features an asymmetrical grind.

The Micartaâ„¢ handle was chosen for wet conditions and its ergonomic profile covers a cutaway steel frame to reduce weight. The injection-molded sheath has an edge reinforced with rivets which also facilitate numerous attaching options. It is form fitted to the blade and keeps the knife secure. Additionally, the DMT diamond sharpener is ingeniously hidden in the Tek-lok attachment.

Eagle Awarded SPC Contract

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

The Marine Corps has awarded ATK’s Eagle Industries business unit a $20 million contract for further deliveries of the Scalable Plate Carrier. Reports of the order do not specify the number of SPCs but they are to be delivered by January 2010. This order combined with the recent sub-contract for deliveries of the IOTV to the Army make the still unresolved Army Releasable Plate Carrier award even more interesting. Already competitors KDH and Eagle had their hands full with the smaller IOTV order and now Eagle has a further order for the Marine SPC. According to early announcements, the Releasable Plate Carrier was supposed to have begun fielding this month. This leaves both Tactical Assault Gear and MSA/Paraclete with ample production capacity. In particular MSA/Paraclete may be feeling the crunch as they did not receive a piece of either of the IOTV contracts.
