Warrior Grips LLC

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

There’s a small shop in Independence County, Arkansas where four LEOs are making custom pistol grips that are creating quite a stir. Warrior Grips have five main designs: Crater, Drunk Herringbone, Elephant Hide, Microdot and Slag. These grips are not for the faint of heart or the weak of skinned. Though all the custom grips come in one of those categories, all are hand made and none are exactly the same. These aren’t cookie cutter grips.

Ed, Brian, Bobby and Rob are all in law enforcement in some form or fashion. Ed started out making grips for other personnel on a tactical team. They proved popular and eventually it became a small side business (with enormous potential, it appears). They’ve been making grips now for about 2 ½ years and are constantly working to come up with new and better designs. Most of their custom work goes to 1911 frames, but they’ve done some for Browning Hi-Powers, at least on Sig Sauer as a favor and a few others.

In this video Travis Haley uses Warrior Grips on his pistol.

They have a satisfaction guaranteed philosophy and will be at a gunshow in Jonesboro this weekend, Craighead County Fairgrounds. Check them out, you may like what you see. Warrior Grip, LLC.

GoPro HERO NVG Mount

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

One category where the GoPro HERO series of cameras excels is in their wide variety of mounting options, which includes the GoPro NVG Mount. With it, one can easily attach either the HERO or HERO2 to any helmet with a Night Vision mounting plate, allowing them to record excellent footage without installing any additional mounts on their equipment. Here, you can see it mounted to a Crye Precision AirFrame Helmet with an Ops-Core VAS Shroud.

CTOMS MOLLE Drop Extension Panel

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

The MOLLE Drop Extension Panel works with the CTOMS X-Belt/M-Harness System. It’s four PALS columns wide and velcroes into place inside the belt’s pad. While there is plenty of Velcro there to keep it fast, spanning gear across from the belt to the panel locks it completely into place.

As you can see, it’s designed to keep your belt up where it needs to be around your waist, but allows you to put your gear down lower, where you want it. This isn’t a full drop leg panel but rather an extension directly from your belt. To put it in perspective, the Drop Extension Panel lowers the top of a 30 round magazine to the level of the top of the belt.

It’s a cool idea and what makes it even better is that CTOMS is in production of a Duty Belt version, compatible with 2″ standard duty style belts in both 2 and 4 column wide versions.

SOTech Back in the Mix

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

You may have heard a whisper here, or a rumor there that Special Operations Technologies and their owner Jim Cragg had been debarred from federal contracting. Well, the truth of the matter is that they were on GSA’s Excluded Parties List System which serves as a clearing house for debarred parties but they’re not there anymore.

They were placed on the list on 1 September of this year in a proposed status and removed just over two months later after it was determined by the Army’s Suspension and Debarment Official that they should not be debarred. SOTech’s owner was a federal witnesses against Joseph Marak and somehow was inadvertently placed on the debarment lost along with Marak and the prosecution’s other main witness Skedco. Both Marak and Skedco thus far remain on the list, although, it’s highly unlikely Marak will be removed based on his fraud conviction.

After speaking with the Army’s SDO, we found out it’s not that hard to be placed on the list. It seems, if somebody accuses you of wrongdoing, or just makes a clerical error, the Government places you on the same list as those that have been debarred for cause. You sit in a proposed status during the investigation. Not only are you in the same database as those who are debarred for cause, you can’t compete for Government contracts until they take you off the list. Doesn’t matter how innocent you are, you look guilty. Until the investigation is complete, you look like a crook.

Fortunately for SOTech they only sat in limbo for two months. Now, they are back in the mix.

Look for an article next week where we take a look at how this happened and how the system is flawed to the point that a company must pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees in order to stay in business and clear their name.

In the meantime, check out the Excluded Parties List System for yourself. www.epls.gov

X-Belt/M-Harness System from CTOMS

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

Canada’s CTOMS is well known for their medical gear but not a lot of people know that they also build some awesome load carrying systems. There are harnesses out there as well as padded MOLLE gun belts, and some of those are even armored, but none offer the versatility of the X-Belt/M-Harness System. Quite frankly, it does some things that others don’t.

Now in it’s 2nd Generation, the X-Belt Quick Release and Padding System has been updated to accept armor inserts, has 4 rows of PALS on the back panel to facilitate a larger armor panel, accepts 2” internal belts, and an adjustable size padding system for a lower profile. Additionally, the X-belt itself now features soft anchor loops. However, if you miss CTOMS’ original, Gen 1 X-Belt with the pop-out front metal V-ring, take heart. They tell me it is currently in development and that they will be bringing it back in an M-Harness (pull tested, rated) compatible configuration soon.

The M-Harness is a tactical climbing harness. It is certified to ASTM F1772 ‐99 (reapproved 2005) Standard Specifications for Climbing Harnesses and can be rapidly integrated for use with the X-Belt.

When you combine all of the components, you get an armored, loadbearing belt that also serves as a padded Class 2 harness for use in high threat, high angle operations.

What nice about the X-Belt/M-Harness System is that it is just that; a system. Due to its inherent modularity and scalability, you can configure it as anything from a simple padded belt to a fully armored, climbing harness system. Not only that, you can purchase only the components you require so you aren’t stuck with capability you don’t need. Check it out if you’re in the market for something a little more substantial than your average gun belt.

Note from CTOMS: The armor inserts are cut from Kevlar sheets rated at NIJ level IIIa, however due to the size and shape of the cuts, these inserts are NOT RATED AT ALL. Due to backface deformation beyond allowable standards set for the ratings that may occur within 2 inches of the edge of the material, these inserts are NOT garanteed to provide any ballistic protection. The purchaser and end user assumes all risk and responsibility and CTOMS Inc. waives all liability in the reliance on this product for ballistic protection.
