Mossberg Flex System

Friday, January 20th, 2012

You can’t deny that the Mossberg 500/590 series of shotguns are popular for both tactical as well as recreational pursuits. At SHOT Show 2012, Mossberg unveiled their new flex system that allows 11 models of shotguns to interchange furniture. This allows the shooter to configure his shotgun for a variety of uses.

The key to the system is the Tool-less Locking System which consists of a series of three connectors to quickly swap out stocks, forends and recoil pads.

Both of these configurations are the same shotgun and the changes were made in less than a minute.

Over the Summer, Watershed showed us a cool waterproof iPad case. At SHOT Show they gave a peek at their Clutch Smartphone Case. As you can see, it’s got ample room for your phone and it can be used while inside the bag. With additional room for other gear, it can be folded in thirds for portage and stowage. What’s REALLY cool is that it integrates an ITW Military Products Cat Snap which is adjustable based on how much you’ve stuffed in your bag.

It features the strengths of metal combined with the signature management advantages of the GhillieTEX line. These pieces are overmolded. They’re isn’t any mamby pamby pieces snapped together that will fall apart during a mission. They’re still producing final tooling and they’ve told me that as soon as the buckles are ready for purchase, you’ll read about it here.

US Night Vision showed us an adapter that connects the AN/PVS14 to an iPhone. Manufactured form aircraft aluminum, it slides right onto the phone and features a view hole and threads that screw into the threads on the 14. Once the iPhone is in camera mode you can take full advantage of the features of the camera app, including zoom and image stabilization. Then, sharing photos and video is as simple as SMS or email.

Models are also already available dor the Galaxy and Casio Commando but look for additional Droid and Blackberry options soon.

This is literally one of the coolest things we have seen all week.

Industry Party Benefits Higher Ground

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Last night, an industry party sponsored by Elite Defense, FirstSpear, Insight Technologies, Smith Optics Elite Division, and Magnum raised funds for Higher Ground (a program of Sun Valley Adaptive Sports). Higher Ground provides a multidisciplinary approach to the long-term healing, restoration, and rehabilitation of wounded veterans with TBI/PTSD

The event was attended by many industry professionals along with members of the profession of arms. They were treated to hors d’oeuvres and there was much catching up amongst old friends.

A sumptuous raffle prize table was overflowing with highly sought after tactical products from a variety of vendors. At the end of the night, there were a lot of pleased revelers.

Except us, we didn’t win anything. But that SMG Lee did. He won two prizes. If you know where he lives, you know what to do…say, “Congrats!”
