Kletterworks – They’re Back!

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Long before there was a Mystery Ranch or even a Dana Designs, there was Kletterwerks. Although short lived, it was Dana Gleason’s first pack company. And now, it’s back. At least, after a fashion. Kletterwerks is the baby of the Dana Gleason III, better known as D3. It’s envisioned as an update to the original line but from a lifestyle angle rather than hardcore outdoor. The initial run, already sold out, will premiere in Japan. We can’t wait to see what they’ve cooked up.

Follow them on Facebook to keep abreast of their latest updates.

Strike Industries Sling Catch

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Developed in conjunction with retired Navy SEAL Miles Hadden, the Sling Catch is a welcome design for those of us who have had a weapon sling ‘saw’ into our necks.

The simple, molded design is attached ato the shoulder pad/strap of the vest by means of a heavy duty Velcro strap and keeps it away from the neck.

Haley Strategic Partners – Disruptive Industries Day Two

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

The day started off with an ass kicking for the Mil/LE group from former Russian Spetznaz operator Saulius “Sonny” Puzikas. Actually, he didn’t kick anyone’s ass, he just offered us the opportunity to wear ourselves out with about 45 minutes of Systema-based stretching and calisthenics followed by some serious weapon retention training.

Sonny would demonstrate each technique along with a student partner multiple times, explaining variations and then set the participants upon one another to practice the various means of prevailing in the close quarters fight. Sometimes you retain the weapon and sometimes you let it go and engage the threat through other means. Sonny sent the participants away with a new tool bag of techniques for further practice and application.

After another excellent catered lunch, Rifle Dynamics took over. Jim Fuller and Billy Cho brought a variety of ComBloc weapons including numerous AK variants as well as an RPK and my favorite, the PKM. Both groups took to the range with familiarization fire. Watching HSGI’s Gene Higdon go Rambo with hip fire from the PKM certainly was a sight.

Next, both groups were given a demonstration on vehicle operations in threat environments by Travis Haley and Kane Smith. After a quick class, practical application was offered to those who wanted to practice assuming various positions from behind a vehicle. Throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities to roll around in the dirt.

The entire group moved back to the hotel conference room for lectures on TCCC and Mass Casualty and Triage. While these sessions were theoretical, feedback was solicited from the audience and a variety of life saving tools were demonstrated including dressings and different tourniquets.

HSP topped the evening off with a working dinner with presentations by several of the vendors who revealed new products, some never seen before.

Daniel Defense Offering New Rail On Its DDM4 Rifles

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Daniel Defense has just unveiled their new DDM4 Rail which uses their patented Bolt-Up System, developed originally for the USSOCOM RIS II. Instead of 6 bolts, the DDM4 Rail only requires 4 bolts and lower rail in this model is closer to the barrel.

Interestingly, the new DDM4 Rail will only be available as part of an upper or full rifle configuration. Additionally, DDM4 versions traditionally offered with an Omega X or Omega X with FSP will be replaced with the DDM4 Rail. However, two of the Daniel Defense models will remain unchanged. The DDM4v7 series will continue to be built utilizing the Daniel Defense Modular Float Rail 12.0. Production of the Daniel Defense MK18 will will continue to include the RIS II designed for USSOCOM.

In a press release, Jordan Hunter, Marketing Manager at Daniel Defense related, “This one--piece design has a more narrow profile which lends itself to better weapon manipulation. Front and Rear Sling Adaptors are integrated into both the left and right side rails. The DDM4 Rail measures 1.9” wide, 2.165” high with an inner diameter of 1.08”.
