American Kami Introduces Colubris II Line and a Surprise

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014

I must admit that I have been somewhat remiss in sharing this news, so I apologize. I actually found out about this during last month’s USASOC Sniper Competition and told American Kami’s DJ Urbanovski that I would share this with my readers. I’m holding up my promise, but I’m late. However, the info is just as cool today as it was when I first learned of it.

As you may recall, American Kami has collaborated with Böker to transition the original, fixed blade, Colubris design into a production model. Last Fall, DJ started working on the next iteration of the design which is now known as the Colubris II.

Just like the original, the new Colubris II will feature CPM S35VN with a tumble over heat treat finish and G10 scales. There are three models; the N for Nano, the S for Small and the M which is Medium and a direct replacement for the original model.

Additionally, you can see the GTFO knife. It too is crafted from S35VN and offers more alternative force applications than other daggers. It incorporates an ‘almost civilian legal everywhere’ sub-3″ blade and can be used as a utility knife as well. Mount may also notice the “spur” in the ring handle.

DJ builds one heck of a knife meaning they are quite popular and difficult to find. If you are serious about getting one of his knives or axes, I suggest contacting him through his website. He’s a very humble guy, easy to work with, and will get you on a waiting list.

Orion Applications – Geometric Threat Assessment Course (GTAC) – Carbine – Update

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Due to an influx of questions regarding tuition for the upcoming GTAC-Carbine course, Orion Applications has released the following statement:

ShootingRange_122411_0051

In regard to our GTAC course May 30th – June 1st we have received a constant stream of questions with reference to the course tuition on the course announcement we put up last week.

“Why is your course so much?” was the common theme. Well, to answer that more effectively, our tuition itself is $800.00, however there is an additional 600.00 fee for the 1000 rounds of UTM 5.56 man marker ammunition. UTM only sells to authorized and certified training companies, therefore we have to order and provide the UTM ammunition for our students. Hence the extra $600.00. I hope that clears up the confusion.

We have had a great response to the course, and there are only 8 seats left for the May course, so if you wish to attend shoot us an email soon. We look forward to a great training kick off for the rest of 2014. If you can’t make it to the May Course, don’t worry as we will be posting the 2014 Schedule here on SSD and on our Facebook on Wednesday!

Hardpoint Technologies – Hardpoint Jungle Operations Vest (SELVA System)

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Hardpoint Jungle Operations Vest

Hardpoint Technologies’ Jungle Operations Vest (SELVA System) is a lightweight vest that incorporates an integrated extraction (HOIST) harness along with an integrated hydration system.

The Jungle Operations Vest is made from Cordura nylon with heavy double and triple stitch patterns designed to stand up to short or prolonged operations in hot, humid, rainy climates. PALS webbing allows for desired equipment placement as the user requires. Snap fasteners at the lower portion of the vest allow for attachment of standard US Military pistol belt assembly.

The integrated HOIST harness assembly operates independently of the vest’s buckle assemblies so that no weight bearing load is placed on the vest itself during insertion/extraction. Extraction TYPE 7 webbing, reinforced with ballistic Kevlar mesh, is built within the interior of the vest, and the leg straps/saddle are secured in a drop pouch located in the rear of the vest for easy accessibility. Multi-Airframe tethers are attached to the TYPE 7 webbing loops and routed and secured on the left or right side with rigger parachute snap fasteners to ensure secured side locations and stability during applied stress.

The integrated hydration system is protected with ballistic Kevlar mesh that is virtually puncture resistant, and the hydration feedhose is accessible from the left or right side.

All webbing and metal hardware meets and/or exceeds US MilSpec standards.

Available in these colors and patterns: Olive Drab, Black, Coyote, MultiCam, and Foliage.

Safariland – Advanced Webless System

Monday, May 5th, 2014

During Warrior West, we got to take a closer look at Safarialnd’s Advanced Webless System. Brought to market under the Protech Tactical Armor line, it utilizes the HANK poly-fabric, an abrasion resistant FR fabric that incorporates laser cut holes that accept PALS compatible pouches.

This article is by no means definitive of what Safariland has created but we wanted to give you couple of candid shots of the technology that they have incorporated into their Soldier Protection System entry. Currently in source selection, SPS is a Multi-year technology demonstration tool used by PEO Soldier to identify promising Soldier Systems technology for outright fielding or integration a enhancements to currently fielded systems.

Safariland has also introduced the Advanced Webless System into a line of commercially available vests. As you can see, they’ve put a lot of thought into these designs which are completely scalable from simple plate carrier to integrated cummerbund to dictionary add-ons to enhance survivability.

Look for additional, behind-the-scenes coverage soon.
