Warrior West – Lancer One-Piece Adaptive Magwell

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

Last Fall, I visited Lancer’s facility in Quakertown, Pennsylvania and of the numerous products they showe me, my favorite was the Adaptive Magwell because it is a relatively low cost add-on that makes it easier to change magazines on the AR platform due to its flare that funnels the magazine into the Magwell.  Like it or not, the U.S. Military is going to stick with the M16 lower receiver for the foreseeable future.  Because the lower is the gun, we can’t change its gemoetry.  But, the Magwell Adapter allows you to enlarge and bevel the Magwell of virtually any mil-spec M16-style lower.

The one-piece is a modification of the original, commercially offered two-piece version that the U.S. Army expressed interest in.  It comes with two silicone gaskets that are used while mounting the adapter in Oder to take any play out of the fit.  You use the one that fits better.
The Magwell Adapter is held fast by clipping into the trigger guard which is opened with the use of a cartridge tip.  The Magwell Adapter incorporates an alternate attachment for the trigger guard which also serves to open the trigger area up a bit for those wearing hand wear.

Once again, this modification to an AR lower requires no permanent alterations to the weapon and makes it easier to accomplish magazine changes.

The Mission model is Black / MultiCam.  Also available in Manatee Grey / Navy Blue on the commercial side. Coming June 2015.

Chris Adams told me this is the dumbest product he’s ever done but that it works and he’ll sell a bunch of them.

It’s a traditional Flexfit ball cap with Velcro fields on the front, sides and rear.  Additionally, you get the Cejay Emgineering battery powered light with mount along with a finger light and mount.  The finger light doubles as a beacon.  The lights are removable and can be used in a variety of applications.

Offered in Tan, Black, Grey and Hunter Orange.  Coming next month from www.adamsindustries.com.

The Grayl Water Filtration Cup

Grayl is a portable water filtration system which functions similarly to a French Press. It consists of an 18/8 stainless steel inner ‘press’ cup, the filter which attaches to the inner cup, and the BPA-free plastic outer cup. The user fills the outer cup with water, then presses the inner cup into the outer cup, where the water is then filtered and delivered into the inner cup.

Grayl offers multiple filters for use with the system. Their strongest filter, the Travel purifier, utilizes a patented triple-charged mesh which traps pathogens, natural carbon (made from coconut shells) which traps heavy metals and chemicals, and an integrated anti-microbial agent which suppresses the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria. It is guaranteed to improve taste and smell of filtered water, along with filtering out 99.999% or more of bacteria, protozoan cysts, and viruses.

40th Anniversary of the End of the Viet Nam War

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

Saigon, the capitol of the Republic of Viet Nam, fell 40 years ago today on 30 April, 1975 to invading North Viet Namese troops after decades of fighting.  Seen below is an image of the evacuation of  Saigon.  There are so many iconic images from that war but this one shows us the end of the struggle.

Viet Nam was very much a part of our national psyche as I grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s and affected me in may ways.  When I enlisted in 1985 my drill sergeant was a Viet Nam veteran as were most of the senior NCOs and Officers I worked for over the next decade.  Much of what I learned about soldiering came from them and their hard earned lessons of fighting a very capable enemy.  I owe them all much.

I’d like to take today to reflect on them, their service and the generation that raised me, including my father.  I’d  also like to raise a toast to those who fell during that conflict in defense of our ideals.

Thank you all for your dedication.  I personally gained a lot from it and it was not in vain.
