SteriPEN Adventurer Opti-
The smallest, lightest SteriPEN, the Adventurer Opti, uses a revolutionary optical eye to sense the water. The patent-pending technology provides safe use and the standard insulating sleeve around the UV lamp allows purification in even the coldest of waters.
Fast, Light, Easy and Effective, the Adventurer Opti provides the ultimate protection from waterborne illnesses. Giardia, cryptosporidium, bacteria and viruses are all destroyed –in seconds—by SteriPEN® UV light. Similar to other SteriPEN models, the Opti purifies 0.5 L (16 oz.) in 48 seconds and 1.0L (32 oz.) in just 90 seconds. The UV lamp provides up to 8,000 one-liter treatments.
The new optical sensor doubles as a convenient LED flashlight. It’s a great backup light when camping or taking a night-time walk to refill your water bottle. The Flashlight mode is activated by pressing and holding the single button down for 3 seconds. The clear lamp cover focuses the LED light.

National Tactical Medicine Competition To Challenge Providers From Around The Country

Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

Tac Med Competition FlyerTwo-man teams competing among peers to prove physical and clinical abilities, treating patients in a tactical environment

Charlotte, NC (Feb. 19, 2016) – Today, SOARescue, in partnership with multiple organizations, officially announces the National Tactical Medicine Competition (NTMC). This competition is being held on Sunday, May 22nd in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fire and Police Training Academy (1770 Shopton Rd, Charlotte, NC 28217).

The National Tactical Medicine Competition is an event created to allow tactical medical providers from around the country the opportunity to collaborate and compete in a community of peers. Civilian Tactical Medicine is a relatively new discipline within the world of pre-hospital medicine. Together with The Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, we are creating opportunities to increase awareness, collaboration and training. This competition is a great opportunity to bring like-minded individuals together and support a cause greater than self.
The National Tactical Medicine Competition is based on the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care guidelines and all simulated patient care will be in line with the currently approved guidelines. The Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (C-TECC.org) endorses the NTMC.

Proceeds from the Competition will benefit C-TECC and the improvement of tactical medical care and education.

Teams of two competitors will negotiate through a series of events to challenge both clinical and physical abilities. While the “lanes”, as they are called, will be agnostic to provider level, they will require competency and skill to negotiate successfully. Competitors will proceed through the phases of care. Beginning at direct threat care, minimal treatment is performed but physical ability will be required to move the patient. Teams will transition to indirect threat care where they will be expected to further treat the patient and prepare for evacuation. Following, teams will evacuate the patient to a given location and continue to provide care during evacuation. Teams will then have to continue through specialized skill sets found only in tactical medicine.

The Mission of the Competition is simple, To Preserve Life. Through friendly competition among peers in a community of professionals, competitors and observers alike will all be able to take something away from this unique event.

Competition – Networking – Training – Fellowship

The Competition will consist of 15 two man teams and will be held over 8 hours on May 22nd 2016. Banquet to follow.

Magpul Files Amended Complaint for Patent Infringement and Declaratory Judgment of Non-Infringement Against Gibbz Arms in Federal Court

Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

After Gibbz Arms sent letters to licensees of Magpul’s M-Lok early this month, Magpul filed an amended complaint asking for a judgment that the M-Lok design does not infringe on the Gibbens brothers’ patent for their GAMA system. To catch you up, Gibbz Arms released their patent pending GAMA system in late February along with copies letters they planned to send to brands that license other, similar weapon accessory attachment systems. The goal of these letters was to assert their patent and to persuade these firms to adopt their device, alleging that it pre-dated the other systems on the market. This was quickly followed by statements of reply from both Magpul and Gibbz Arms. Eventually, Magpul filed suit on March 4, 2016.

In a press release posted to Magpul’s website earlier today, they said this:

Magpul has drawn a firm line in the sand with this expanded lawsuit. “Magpul will take all necessary action against Gibbz Arms, including challenging its patents in Federal District Court, to ensure that adopters of the M-LOK system have complete freedom to operate without concern” said Duane Liptak, Director of Product Management and Marketing for Magpul Industries. Mr. Liptak further stressed that “Magpul will make certain that its M-LOK system can be implemented under its free license without interference from Gibbz Arms.”

Much of the issue at hand revolves around the types of T-nuts used in the design of each attachment system. This image from the Magpul filing illustrates the two types. The Gibbz Arms design is it the left and Magpul’s to the right.

Magpul has petitioned the Court for the following relief:

That Gibbz Arms has infringed the ‘236, ‘209, and ‘210 Patents;

That Gibbz Arms has knowingly and willfully infringed the ‘236 Patent;

That Plaintiff be awarded damages for patent infringement according to proof and ordering that such damages be multiplied up to treble their amount;

Preliminarily and permanently enjoining Gibbz Arms and all others acting in concert with Gibbz Arms from making, using, selling, or offering to sell the infringing firearm accessory mounting interface or any other product that infringes the ‘236, ‘209, and ‘210 Patents without permission or license from Plaintiff;

That Gibbz Arms be ordered to deliver up to Plaintiff all products infringing the ‘236, ‘209, and ‘210 Patents within its ownership, possession, or control for destruction by Plaintiff;

That the making, using, selling, offering for sale, and/or importing of the M-LOK T-Nut, or any component of the M-LOK system, does not infringe the ’D661 Patent, directly or indirectly, literally or under the doctrine of equivalents;

That the Court declare this to be an exceptional case pursuant to 35 U.S.C. § 285, and award reasonable attorney’s fees;

That Plaintiff be awarded its costs of suit, and pre- and post-judgment interest on any money judgment; and

For such other relief as the Court deems proper.

You can read the complaint below which offers additional details on the matter including a disclosure that this has been brewing since August 215 when Gibbz initially contacted Magpul. But, it was not until patents were issued and letters of solicitation were sent to M-Lok licensees that the situation escalated.

Tactical Tailor – Pacific Northwest Pack Series

Wednesday, March 16th, 2016

Tactical Tailor prepared a press release on their new line of Pacific Northwest Packs, which can be read below:

1

The PNW Pack Series has been kicking around in Tactical Tailor’s design shop for about 18 months.  Obviously Tactical Tailor geeks out over backpacks and we love the great Pacific North West.  We love the fit, form and function that a lot of the climbing/alpine packs offered in the mountains, but the problem that consistently surfaced was light weight packs only work well when you put light weight things in them.  A pack that works awesome for camping and climbing in the Cascades would fall apart as soon as you added 2 SAW drums, 100 rounds of 7.62 link, a mortar round and a few 5590 batteries.

We would often joke that the US Military got three things right, the smoking jacket, the poncho liner and the ALICE pack.   Unfortunately ever since, the US Military has been trying to get rid of them once they saw that they worked and the troops loved them;  well, as much as anyone can love a piece of GI equipment…

The Regiment-Front

Tactical Tailor staff travels the US about 30-40 weeks a year doing trade shows and visiting our nation’s war fighters.  The two things we hear consistently is that the ALICE/MALICE frame is king and that our supporters wish we would build a new pack since they can’t wear their old one out and need an excuse to buy a new one.

We started thinking about how we could combine our love of the MALICE pack with more updated outdoor design features that we loved and the PNW Pack Series was born.

Tahoma Tote-Front

In 2015, Larry Coffey, the owner of Tactical Tailor and the father of the late Tactical Tailor founder Logan Coffey, mentioned that he would love to have a team in the 2016 Bataan Memorial Death March.  As we all learned early in our military careers, a suggestion from the commander is really an order, so we wasted no time in starting our training.

As we were working through the design process we carried these packs up Mount Si, Tiger Mountain, Mount Rainer (aka Mount Tahoma) and along the Nisqually River with military weight loads.  We post holed in the snow, trekked through frozen fog and walked in white out conditions. The mountains wasted no time in telling us what we got right and what we got painfully wrong.  We’d hit the design table, make some changes and hit the mountains again the next weekend.  Some of the great new features that resulted from these experiences are an adjustable suspension system with load lifters, low profile super straps, outward cinching super belts, compression straps and exterior access zips. Plus, if you like the look of these new straps and belts, they will be available for sale separately too.

The Nisqually-Front

Tactical Tailor is looking forward to walking our packs in the Bataan memorial Death March on March 20 at White Sands, NM and they will be available for customers to order that same day. It’s been an amazing journey back to our roots rucking our own designs and we look forward to sharing them with everyone that has supported us over the years.  We hope to see everyone at White Sands or whatever post, camp or base we land at after that. Of course, if you’re ever at Fort Lewis, come see us, we have a Starbucks machine!

Got questions or need to get your hands on one of these awesome new packs? Look us up on the web at www.tacticaltailor.com, drop us a line at customerservice@tactcialtailor.com or give us a shout 253-984-7854.
