Patriot’s Day – America’s Beginnings

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

While some may argue that the Boston Massacre marks the beginning of the Revolutionary War due to the deaths of Colonists, the events of April 19th, 1775 mark the first shots from an American Army, on British troops, starting a war that would last for over eight years and see the ascendency of the American Eagle over this land we now call the United States.

This battle is also where we draw our concept of the iconic Minute Man from.

Each Patriot’s Day, I remember those men at Concord and consider what it must have been for them to stand there together, in the face of the world’s greatest army and take up arms in the defense of their colony from oppression.

This militia came together on that morning to protect their arms from seizure by an oppressive government. That is a fact.

“Stand your ground. Don’t fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”
-John Parker
Captain of Militia

As the initial volleys of fire were exchanged near daybreak on Lexington Green, colonial volunteers fell back in the face of over 500 occupying British troops. But as the battle moved on to Concord, the tide turned, and the redcoats were routed as more and more colonists joined the fray.

The British troops retreated through Concord where they were reinforced. Despite boasting a strength of 1700 men, they remained no match for the determined colonists who forced them to retreat to the safety of Charlestown in Boston. The militiamen continued their pursuit which transformed into the Siege of Boston.

Today, join me in remembering those American warriors who pledged their lives to give us our hard fought freedoms and this great land.

David Jones, Armor Express’ Director of Federal Sales commented, “We’re excited to join our law enforcement and military officers at Fort Meade this year as they look to gain vital knowledge of the most effective tactics and the latest, innovative tools for sharpening their 21st century skills. We have a great opportunity to engage with the brave men and women on the front lines about the issues they face, their professional development needs, and how we can best support them with the mission-critical equipment and resources they require to perform and be safe. We look forward to a week of immersive and productive workshops that only parallel actual mission deployment.”

Although it’s less than 1″ in diameter, the Northern Star Fire Compass will alert you to your directional heading no matter what orientation it’s in. You could be leaving my sideways and the compass’ lights will indicate one of eight cardinal directions via NEWS as well as color.

It was originally designed to be affixed to the inside of a SCBA mask to help firearm orient themselves in thick smoke, but it can also be used with other masks such as a CBRNE respirator.

The device is rechargeable (7 hours per charge) but will also accept disposable batteries. It is IP67 rated to 1M and is currently undergoing pressure testing for interested use.

Warrior West 18 – Titan Retention

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018

I found Titan Retention in the Phokus Research Group booth. The concept (and small business) were created by a Team Guy who wanted a better mousetrap. In this case, his mousetrap was a weapon retention device.

Titan Retention uses a ratchet system to retain weapons and equipment with 500 lbs of force. It’s also PALS compatible and your gear is easy to access thanks to the Austrialpin Cobra buckle. It sounds heavy, but it weighs just 9 oz.

Offered in multiple colors, visit www.titanretention.com for more info.
