Warrior West 19 – DFND Recovery Compression Short Sleeve T-shirt In Coyote

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

DFND’s Recovery Compression Short Sleeve T-shirt is now available in Coyote. That alone is something different. But what really sets this shirt apart is the pattern of the compression panels which are designed to replicate the application of sports tape. It’s almost impossible to apply tape to your own upper back. Below is a photo of the back side of the shirt.

Warrior West 19 – Tim Kennedy

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

I must admit that when I sat down to listen to Tim Kennedy present “LEADERSHIP: Becoming The Sheepdog,” during this week’s Warrior Expo West, I was somewhat skeptical. The title evoked my disdain for the worn out Sheepdog trope. But what I got out of the presentation was something altogether different.

My only previous exposure to Tim Kennedy was a few glimpses of him on a TV series and he was understandably, oh so serious. Turns out, that’s not him at all. He is exactly who I should have thought he was, an SF NCO.

He was jovial throughout the presentation and even warned us up front that he would drop the odd curse word. I’m told there was some pearl clutching over his language, but he spoke to the audience as peers, and I’d say he held back a bit. I’ve heard much worse during my service. If the point of attending the speech was to meet the military customer, it served its purpose. This is how many service members talk, and look at life, particularly in our Special Operations Forces.

His message was simple, don’t quit. But Tim Kennedy can at times be quite self-deprecating, sharing both the highs and the lows in his life. It works.

I don’t want to steal his thunder by retelling his stories. The presentation offered example after example of never quit and never succumb to weakness, if you want to be great.

I enjoyed Tim’s presentation and if you get a chance to hear him speak, or just meet him in person, take it. It’s worth it.

Canadian DND Exercises $33m Ballistic Helmet Contract With NP Aerospace

Thursday, May 16th, 2019

Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) has issued full options on a $33 million combat helmet contract with Canadian armour technology manufacturer, NP Aerospace.

The contract is for supply and delivery of the CM735 lightweight ballistic helmet and spare components over a seven-year period.

NP Aerospace has supplied combat helmets to the Canadian DND since 2015. The CM735 helmet is designed and manufactured using advanced composite technology to deliver greatly improved ballistic and fragment protection with a weight reduction of 25 percent from the CG634 helmet. Its structural design also helps avoid severe injury from back face deformation and impact to the head when hit by fragments and bullets.

James Kempston, CEO, NP Aerospace, comments: “We are honoured to continue to supply our ballistic helmets to the Canadian Armed Forces and are proud of our long-standing partnership providing the highest quality body armour. This contract is among many with Canada which has allowed us to innovate and enhance our global product offerings. The next generation technology within the CM735 helmet, for example, has benefited the development of our composite spall liner which is now used in military vehicles across the world.”

NP Aerospace manufactures a range of full and high cut helmets as part of its Lightweight Armoured Soldier Architecture (LASA®) portfolio. The CM735 composite helmet shell has a weight of less than 920 grams (32 ounces) while providing ballistic protection against fragments and NIJ Level 3A hand gun rounds. Its low weight significantly improves user performance while reducing fatigue. The LASA portfolio also includes hard body armour plates and shields for a range of threats including covert operations as well as various rifle bullets.
